Welcome to Librarian by Day, my personal blog, where I share ideas, reflections, and resources that span the many facets of my life. I’m Bobbi L. Newman (she/her), a practicing librarian, Certified Wellness Practitioner, author, speaker, and consultant. I work a full-time job in libraries, but this blog is where I write on my own terms.
Over the years, Librarian by Day has grown and evolved with me, from a space where I shared thoughts on library innovations to a hub for transforming how we approach work culture, burnout, employee satisfaction, and psychological safety. These days, much of my focus is on workplace culture and well-being. I believe that burnout, psychological safety, and a healthy workplace are not side topics; they’re central to librarianship.
I lead Bobbi L. Newman Consulting LLC, and I am the founder and director of Thrive, Culture Shift Consulting, LLC, which hosts the ThriveLib Conference.
With nearly a decade of experience and a commitment to evidence-based practices, I help library leaders and organizations create supportive, equitable environments where individuals and teams can thrive.
I’ve taught thousands of library staff through courses, conferences, and symposia. I have published two books on workplace wellness. My writing and work have been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, Library Journal, and American Libraries Magazine. But this blog is where I write in my own voice, without word counts or formatting constraints, and share what’s on my mind.
Thank you for being here. I hope this blog inspires you to challenge the status quo and imagine what’s possible when we prioritize people at work.
