CITY SESSIONS: SPONTANEOUS TALK
https://www.spontaneousinterventions.org/forum
Leagues and Legions (LGNLGN) in conjunction with the Institute for Urban Design and Spontaneous Interventions: design actions for the common good, the U.S. Pavilion at the 13th International Venice Architecture Biennale would like to invite you to participate in City Sessions: Spontaneous Talk, a dialogue about the practice of tactical urbanism and socially active design.
City Sessions is a forum discussion board open to the public for commentary and debate.
Tactical urbanism uses the city as a site of experimentation, deploying pop-up parks, vacant retail reuse, or unsanctioned street furniture as way to reprogram the urban realm. The practice traditionally takes an activist position in relationship to environmental, political, cultural and economic factors. However, as the practice is increasingly being absorbed into mainstream thinking on cities, it is critical that we look closely at both the underlying assumptions and resulting effects.
We are asking critics, practitioners, academics, community organizers, and the general public to weigh in on one of four questions dealing with issues of tactical urbanism. Each question will tackle a particular theme: community, funding, communication, and working with governmental/institution entities. The City Session: Spontaneous Talk questions will post online in during the course of the Venice Architecture Biennale, August 29 through November 25.
You can post your comment here: https://www.spontaneousinterventions.org/forum

NCR CLASSIFIEDS
LGNLGN sets out to map longing, desire, guilt and regret in the city, as well as the city’s losses and desires through the classified section of the New City Reader (see link below).
In the fall and winter of 2010 LGNLGN asked the public to submit classified ads with the question: “If personal information replaces cash in a networked economy, then how much are you willing to exchange for a New City Reader Classified?” Their wants and needs, lost and founds, missed connections, and notices were published in issue 14 of the New City Reader.
The NCR Classifieds was produced in the New Museum by LGNLGN December 30, 2010–January 6, 2011.

#endofarchitecturetexts
lgnlgn, comp. kshpatel [Kush Patel]. #endofarchitecturetexts. [Twitter thread.] a.aaaarg.org. 21 Dec. 2009 – 30 Dec. 2009. 04 Jan. 2010
This thread is about the state of architectural criticism at the beginning of the 21st century. It was the impetus behind the proposals for the Public School New York classes, The Page + the Screen: Siting Text in the Early 21st Century and Beyond and Texts + Textures: A Writing Workshop. It is also a formative document of the lgnlgn forum.
It is important to note that at the tail end of the thread, the discussion turned toward how conversations like these, which are distributed across multiple platforms, will eventually be archived and interpreted. Beyond this thread, there are still questions that loom. For example, with the introduction of newer technologies and their applications, what happens to the ways in which we read and write? In relation to Twitter and other social media, can these fragmented texts be defined as a form of criticism? If so, do they have the ability to stand alone as such? Where are they situated within a body of knowledge or canon?
[After participating in this thread, I came to this conclusion: Twitter is indexical in that it points toward larger conversations happening elsewhere.]
Here are excerpts from the latter part of the thread (To read chronologically, start from the bottom.). As noted within the thread, these fragments taken out of context may not have much of an impact here:

JETISTICS AND I KNOW YOU
LGNLGN, VAMOS Architects, and Junk Jet magazine collaborated on the U.S. launch of the Junk Jet n°3 flux-us! flux-you! issue. To celebrate, Junk Jet and Vamos Architects each created a dynamic installation, Jetistics: The Analysis of Junk and I Know You.
JETISTICS: THE ANALYSIS OF JUNK. THE JUNK OF ANALYSIS?
After three years of publishing the experimental magazine Junk Jet, it is time for a serious analysis of junk. Therefore, Jetistics reports revealing details and secrets of world’s most important periodical publications dealing with junk data. As evidence, the presentation tracks and compares changes over time, showing overall trends and local details, analyzing patterns and breaks of junk.
For the storefront of VAMOS Architects, Jetistics built, in neo-neo-classicist style, a monumental micro-architecture, or an architectural micro-monument.
What you see is what you jet: junk data, statistical landscapes, golden rate graphs, bumps charts, purchase waves, classical façade, trend analysis, random walks, empirical measurements, data paths, dot-dash plots.
I KNOW YOU
In the spirit of engagement, VAMOS Architects will created I Know You, a physical diagram of a social network. With the help from residents, businesses, and visitors on the block, the project emerged throughout the course of the day. VAMOS Architects is a sociologically-driven design firm led by Evan Bennett and Silvia Fuster.
