Nic and Dana,
Enjoyed reading your blog update. We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Day with Ben and his girlfriend Jessie. We planned it so we spent no time in the kitchen cooking. While they were here, we spent all the hours catching up on news and eating. It was great.
Tony and I visited Janie and her husband Jonathan for Thanksgiving. It was heartening to see the adjustment of Jazmyne and Caleb. J. & J. are foster parents in Vancouver, WA who adopted this sibling pair last year. We also helped them pick out their Christmas tree and decorate it before we headed home.
Ben, a.k.a. “Uncle Ben” and his girlfriend Jessie visited them the weekend before Christmas. Ben continues at R.C.C. toward a degree in criminal justice. Jessie works for Mercy Flights as an EMT and just graduated from the Grants Pass Fire/Rescue program. She is seeking certification in White Water Rescue.
Tony retired from the V.A. Dom last June and has finally made a graceful retirement transition. He keeps busy volunteering as a Range Safety Officer at the Sportspark shooting range in White City and keeps our two standard dachshunds, Zoey and Murphy out of mischief.
I have been working 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the O.R. at Prov since Nov. 2010. It was a little strange to go back after 10 years in Ashland. Everything is so different. But, I grew comfortable after a couple of months and found my own niche. Everyone is happy to see me when I clock in because it means they get lunch! I do four lunch reliefs ( scrub or circulate), take my lunch and then get my own room at 3 p.m.
There are times we smile/wave as we motor down our street, but I hope you know we still value you as neighbors even if we don’t speak.
. . . . just down the street,
Deb and Tony Ruberto ]]>

Nope the other hits weren’t me. I go on and get all caught up and then check back in a month or so. If I leave a comment, I sign up for the email notification if you write back. I have heard about Ron and also think it is very cool he is starting with prayer. ๐ We are going to the Rogue Valley Christian Church. It is right by our house and my kids have been going there with their cousins off and on for a couple years. The pastor and his wife are young and excited about serving the Lord. I have peace it is were God wants us for now. There have been some cool ministry opportunities for me at work as well and it is exciting to see what God is doing with all of that. I love how He can work in so many different ways. I think we forget that sometimes.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. It’s sort of funny, but I discovered my ‘one active subscriber’ was me (‘guess that’s automatically set up on wordpress =)! But unless you’ve visited this post several times before now, I did have a few other hits. God knows, and I just have to be ‘faithful’ to my part in His purposes for it. I’m glad (yet sorry too) that you found it relatable to your situation also, and yes, we have heaven to look to for all to be ‘made right’ in the way He has planned from the beginning.
Have you found a fellowship to settle into yet? I guess you’ve heard about Ron’s church plant. We’ll probably be going with that, but are only involved in prayer support so far. We’re just glad he sees that as foundational to making any other plans =).
Worship leaders are ‘retired’ much earlier than pastors it would seem, but God will ‘open doors that no one can shut’ if we’re looking where He wants us to =)!! ]]>

Well Dana, there are two of us still reading your blog occasionally. I love your heart in this and feel so similar. Not for your person, but for mine. It is so painful to hope for years and pray for years and it seems like nothing comes of it but pain and loss. Only God knows the fruit of the love and prayers on both sides of a relationship. I do so wish relationships worked out better on this side of heaven but they will be great and beautiful once He is fully in charge of our hearts and all is clearly seen and known. I miss you and hope you are doing ok.

I do think it’s the responsibility of any who ‘lead’ to continue, as the apostle Paul, ‘pressing on toward the goal heavenward’ (Phil. 3:12-14) until our final breath. If we’re only focused on getting everyone to make it to our ‘level’ (saved and serving), then what’s left to aspire to? We’re still ‘thirsty’ for more (if we’re honest with ourselves).

I wonder if maybe we think we are satisfied spiritually and are deceived into thinking our thirst is for things other than God. Health, comfort, beauty, security, admiration ect. Since we are saved, we think we have that covered and spend our lives seeking other things??

But ‘knowing Christ’ (see Phil. 3:10) is the one ‘thing’ that, though satisfying our ‘thirst’ in increasing measure here (far more than any other earthly thing), will take all eternity to fully enjoy! Then if others ‘follow us as we follow Christ (1 Cor. 11:1) we will ALL progress toward that ultimate goal and become more like Him in the process (Rom. 8:29)!
Yeah, I know, easier said than done, but it’s worth the price of pursuit!
