Lawrence Estrey, originally from Lancashire but now in London, studied music at Dartington College of Arts in Devon. He specialised in piano, composition and the psychology of music, and graduated with Honours. Later, he won the Fritz Gottlieb Memorial Scholarship for Piano and studied with Vera Yelverton in London.

He has performed at St Mary’s Cathedral and the Edinburgh University’s Reid Concert Hall. Other concert venues include Central Baptist Church Bloomsbury for the International Recital Series, Sutton House, St Lawrence Jewry, St Magnus the Martyr, St Anne and St Agnes, St Bride’s Fleet Street, Lauderdale House, Brady Arts Centre, New Cross Inn, St James Muswell Hill, St Michael’s Highgate, The Barnfield Theatre Exeter and The Palace Avenue Theatre Paignton.

He was a regular performer at the open mic nights at The Raglan Hotel, Muswell Hill, during 2012 and 2013, playing an equal selection of classical and ragtime, and he has performed at MidSummer Muswell and on behalf of Haringey Libraries.

He has also played on French waters (Schubert), and recently appeared at The North Finchley Festival.

In another life, Lawrence taught piano and theory, helped out with a North London choir, and spent a couple of months as a composer at Hoxton Hall, a Community Theatre based in Hackney.

    actually own an acustic guitar but I never got to learn how to play 😦 good luck with everything 🙂

  31. Just thought I’d hit the follow button. Not sure what to expect … but anyone who went to Dartington has to have a bit of a nutty streak in them. I went there too once upon a time – didn’t graduate, but I was president of the students’ union for a minute!
    Did they EVER get lights on the drive??

  32. Wow! Not sure about the lights on the drive (don’t think so), but I was VERY involved in the Student Union for a while. Got elected as Entertainment Office even though I did virtually nothing other than chill out in the office in Higher Close on Sunday mornings. Used to love that office.

  41. Hello. Nice website–I enjoyed listening to the piano music!
    I used to sing with the Washington Opera, and I LOVED listening to the orchestra play the beautiful overtures before the opera began.
    I live in Texas now and I was still singing here and there…until the Covid-19 pandemic began. Now singing is considered a ‘super-spreader’ because of the amount of air that is expelled. Sigh. I still sing by myself and for myself because it makes me feel a little better.

  45. I closed my eyes and treated myself to a little music this evening. Thank you for the Ragtime numbers. I used to enjoy a “Jazz in the Palm Court” concert series, (a history of jazz) at the Smithsonian Museum when I lived in DC. My favorite jazz is Preservation Hall from New Orleans, but I like Ragtime and classical music too.

    Here’s hoping that the Pandemic ends sooner rather than later and we can all get on with our lives!
