Day 1 in Tracy Arm Fjord. The D800 goes through its second test. It survived the cold glacier water in the first test.

Taking the Nikon D800 to the world’s most colorful exhibit
The Chihuly exhibit just opened up in the Seattle Center and what better timing than right after the release of the Nikon D800. I have always been a huge Chihuly fan and when I heard about this exhibit, I could not wait to see it. Color and light are the driving forces behind my inspiration for photography and Chihuly is the ultimate artist–a perfect blend of color and light on a glass canvas.
I just got back from my Alaska trip, couldn’t be more exciting to be home. Will post some photos in the coming days. Stay tuned!
Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR on Nikon D800
With my trip to the Pacific Northwest that includes Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria Island, and Alaska for the next few weeks, I decided to bring out the old 70-300mm VR for a test on the D800 to see if it would make the cut for the trip. Yes, my Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII is in every way better but I am not about to bring that beast if the 70-300mm can do the job. And to my surprise, it did just fine on the D800. With such high pixel density, I expected the 70-300mm to fail miserably but it held up on its own. I took it out for a real-world shoot at the annual World of Nations Celebration in Jacksonville, FL. I did not miss the 70-20mm VRII at all while shooting with the 70-30mm VR. Check out the event from the weekend. Click on image for full resolution.

Unboxing the new Nikon D800
After two months of waiting and waiting and waiting for the release of the Nikon D800 since its announcement on February 6, 2012, there was a huge shortage in supply. I had ordered it an hour after it was online for pre-order. Even a month after the day it become available when I was able to get my hands on it. Nikon really need to do a better job in supplying dealers their hot new products to meet demand. And dealers like B&H Photo Video as well as Adorama need to not take thousands of orders if they do not know how many they will get from Nikon. Enough of my rant, here’s the unboxing of the new 36 Megapixel Nikon D800.

Uyen & Nhut’s Wedding
One of the most beautiful weddings I have ever had the pleasure to capture. It was nice we had a separate day to shoot the groom and bride so more time = more awesome shots. The couple was really fun to work with and they we’re happy to change between 3 different outfits in the middle of the Florida heat.

The Wedding of Kimberly & Christopher
Congratulations to Kimberly & Christopher on their beautiful wedding. The wedding got rained out, one of the downsides of being in Northest Florida along with Hurricane season. The rain, however, did offer an interesting canvas to shoot the wedding on. How we see photographs changes. Everything turned out well for this particular shoot.

Fatima & Ali’s Wedding
Congratulations to Fatima & Ali on their beautiful wedding. So I decided to shoot the wedding with only primes– 24mm f/1.4G, 50mm f/1.4G, and 85mm f/1.4G. Well almost, I snuck a few establishing shots with the 14-24mm f/2.8G. And after the two-day shoot, I have to say that I will be shooting with these primes for all future weddings. Unless I really need a zoom for tricky situations, these would be the only lens I’ll ever need. Some one asked how I can get further reach with only the 85mm, my answer would be to shoot it in DX mode. That’s all the reach I’ll ever need. Here are some shots from the wedding.
