You can still enter your fiction, animation or experimental film for free that is no longer than 30 minutes and was made after 1. January 2008.
You can not only send the registration form on-line but you can also upload your film for the pre-jury to review. Those whom movies make it to the final we require a screening copy as well. Of course whoever wish to send their film by postal service they are free to do so.
The AZYL festival of Bratislava again calls for entries to the Advertising Life competition, which like last year will be hosted in Hungary by BUSHOfestival for the third time. The goal of this call is to get 1 minute shorts from makers that is related to their slogen „reklama na život” roughly means advertising life.
This year’s subject is: We are Europeans!?Armed with last years’ experience the major change is that the pieces will be judged in 4 countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland) by separate juries then the 10 finalists from each country will compete in the final in Prague.The winner’s reward again is €3000.-!
New feature is that from this year you can upload your short online as well and that we also accept entries that were not made by an individual but in the frame of „advertising LIFE workshop” which is most likely to be held from the middle of february. The main sponsor of the event in each country is the Open Society Institute, partner is the International Visegrad Fund, whereasthe Hungarian partners are Duna TV, Film.hu, ASIFA Hungary, Metrion Group, Kodak and Balassi Institute, furthermore the entries that are registered in Hungary we forward them to BuSho Festival. We still aspire for your works to be shown as many forums as possible and after the final decision of the jury they could be seen on popular internet portals where the public can also value them.

7. It cannot contain of explicit language and offend any human rights.
8. It cannot contain of any musical part that is not free of copyrights. It is always the maker’s responsibility to assure that no copyright issue to be arisen.
9. A maximum of 3 entries per maker.
10. The works will be valued by a technical jury that’s members will be announced at a later date.

One World este un festival de film dedicat drepturilor omului initiat de Vaclav Havel (fost presedinte al Cehiei) in 1999. One World Prague, a devenit cel mai mare festival de acest fel din Europa si s-a extins in orase ca Bruxelles, Madrid, New York sau Kiev.
In Romania, Festivalul One World a implinit 3 ani. Daca in primii doi ani a fost sub patronatul Centrului Ceh, din 2010 se afla si in grija nou fondatei asociatii ONE WORLD ROMANIA.
Avand ca motto ALEGE SA-TI PESE, festivalul doreste ca prin proiectiile filmelor documentare urmate de dezbateri libere sa creeze o comunitate activa, formată din publicul tanar, deschis spre nou şi curios, tineri ce isi doresc sa cunoasca si sa se implice in problemele cu care se confrunta ceilalti.

The last day of film projections at the 5th Cyprus International Film Festival began with the projection of Medea (Natalia Kuznetsova, Russia) followed by I, Giannoulis Halepas(Stella Arkenyi, Greece).
The Golden Aphrodite projections included the films Birds of Prey (Rakesh Mehta, India) and Love in a Different Language (Ilksen Basarir, Turkey).

Closing Ceremony
The Awards Ceremony, which took place on the 18th of October, at Pallas Theatre in Nicosia,represented a glamorous event, attended by some significant personalities in the film industry and other fields as well. Mrs Aigli Kammitsi, President of the Cultural Committee of the Municipality of Nicosia, Mr Fotis, Fotou, Mr George Iliopoulos for the European Committee Bureau in Cyrpus, Mrs Evi Rizou Greek Embassy in Cyprus Press Office representative, Mr Constantinos Christofides , Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs in the University of Cyprus and chairman of UCY Voice, Mr Vassilov, President of the Russian Cultural Centre in Cyprus, fashion designer Sia Dimitriades, Cyprus Tourism Organization Official Bakis Loizides, Marios Filippou and Onisilos Pavlides from Cyprus University Film Association as well as Micky Georgiou from PLUS TV. In 2006 Mr Fotis Fotou, former Chariman of Cyprus Tourism Organization along with former Minister of Education and Culture Pefkios Georgiades, whose memory and spirit is still alive, found and supported the festival. Mr Fotiou underlined the fact that the Festival has now become an acclaimed organization.
The event was also attended by some of the Jury Committee Members who for this festival’s edition were: the Cypriot actor and director Costas Demeitriou, the Greek actress and director Alexandra Pavlidou, the songwriter Kostas Cacogiannis, the film producer George Stefanopoulos, and the film critic Alexandros Romanos Lizardos.
Award presentationwas madeby Cypriot actress Maria Filippou. During the event a special screening of the short film took place, which was made during the workshop “Actor in front of the camera”organized and carried out by Thanassis Sarantos. Nicosia’s University Cinema Club awarded the best short and animation films.
Highly important is the fact that a Turkish film, Love in a Different Language, was not only much awarded in multiple categories (Best Leading Actor in a Feature Film, Best Script in a Feature Film, Best Director in a Feature Film), but also received the Golden Aphrodite, proving thus that art has no political borders.

All in all, this was the 5th edition of Cyprus International Film Festival! The biggest, most anticipated film festival not only in Cyprus but in a wide area was organized for another time in order to move, encharm, entertain and present the most auspicious film trends to the die-hard cinemagoers and to first- timers in getting to know significant pieces of the Seventh Art.
The next days at Pantheon Art Cinema invited the audience to enjoy the wonderful world of the art of cinema and world-wide movies.
On Friday the 15th of October, spectators were invited from 17.00 to watch films on their taste, either animation, shorts or feature. The Golden Aphrodite screened two films in competition, a Greek and Spanish film, namely “45 SQ.MTRS” (Stratos Tzitzis) and “The Golden Gag” (Maria Jose Ruiz Fenollera).

The 4th day of the CYIFF found its enthusiastics participants in the “Actor in front of the Camera” workshop in the midst of shooting a short film (more information in the article Making of of “Beyond the Walls”)
The Short Film Mania from 17.00 to 21.30 received a warm welcome from the audience, who had the opportunity to discuss with the film directors, producers or actors from the films screened.

Afterwards, two Golden Aphrodite competition films were screened.
The first day of the much awaited 5th edition of the Cyprus International Film Festival opened its gates on the 13th of October 2010, at the Pantheon Art Cinema in Nicosia. With a great many spectators, as well as important guests,CYIFF“welcomed us into a sweet collaboration in the arms of the 7th art” (Tony Srour). “For the 5th year in a row we are carrying on our effort to underline the value of the upcoming filmmakers, transmit their ideas and their work, as well as bring together productive initiatives, deriving from different backgrounds”, Petra Terzi CYIFF’s CEO stated.
The Opening Ceremony, held by Petra Terzi and the Polish Ambassador in Cyprus, Paweł Dobrowolski,was followed by the international film premiere “Arcadia Lost” (USA, 2010), directed by Phedon Papamichaeland starring Nick Nolte. The film tells the initiating story of two youngsters into life and death and was shot entirely in Greece, “with a landscape of an unique energy, the Greek lighting actually helping the story to evolve”, as the director himself states.

Film projections continued throughout the evening, both with shorts, followed by a Q&A section, and feature, ending with thefirst coloured Cypriot film from 1974, Hasaboulia tis Kyprou, by Costas Demetriou.
The second day of the Cyprus International Film Festival continued with the “Actor in front of the camera” workshop, in which Thanassis Sarantos brought the young filmmaker participants into the world of acting, not only through role playing, but also through a great many examples of wonderful performances in world-wide renowned films. Most importantly, the preparations began for the scenario and script of the seminar short film, which was screened on 18 October at Pallas Theatre in Nicosia.

Film projections delighted the audience, present from 17.00 at Pantheon Art Cinema. “The Seven Stages of Antiquity”(Georges Petritsis, Greece) was followed by a section of international short films, where the spectators had the chance to talk with the film directors.Thanassis Sarantos was also present after the screening of his short film “The Glove”. In the Golden Aphrodite competition spectators could watch “21:3” (Michal Ostatkiewicz, PL) and “The Ambulance” (Goran Radovanovic, RS/GR). The day ended with another two projections of short films.

Filmul, si nu numai, a reprezentat intr-adevar liantul pentru invitatii prezenti din lumea intreaga la Festivalul International de Film Document.Art,din tari precum Chile, Cuba, Austria, Grecia, Olanda, Italia, Letonia, Romania, Polonia si Canada.Diversitatea filmelor prezentate a fost la fel de mare ca si diversitatea comunicarii: italiana, franceza, romana, spaniola, greaca, germana, olandeza, poloneza, “a true melting pot”, cum spun englezii.
Filmul a fost in fapt limbajul universal care a unit spectatorii, regizorii, producatorii dar si juriul prezent in cea de-a doua zi la Document.Art.

Ce-ar fi daca pentru o zi, ne-am putea bucura de vrajaoraselor europene, am cucerii Alpii si Patagonia, am schia in Chile si am ramane muti de uimire in fata peisajelor salbatice balcanice? Ce-ar fi daca pentru o zi, Africa s-ar releva in toata splendoarea rezervatiilor naturale si am sarbatori Craciunul in Riga, delectandu-ne apoi cu muzica lui Chopinsi cu cea a lui Gheorghe Zamfir?
Probabil ca, obositi fiind, ne-am mai trage sufletul din cand in cand la o cafea.. Unde? La Centru Cultural „Ion Manu” din Otopeni, unde „Martorii tacuti” ai Danielei Frumuseanu ne vegheaza de la inaltime iar lumea copilariei lui Chopin ne da mai multe de inteles despre spiritul melancolic al muzicii acestuia.
Astfel a inceput, cu invitati de marca si filme din toata lumea, „Document.Art”, Festivalul International de Filmdesfasurat laCentrul Cultural „Ion Manu” din Otopeni, intre 30.09-02.10.2010.
Prima zi a fost deschisa de vernisajul expozitiei personale „Martori tacuti”,Daniela Frumuseanu, care se inscrie in curentul post-avangardei construind prin simblourile sale o mitologie proprie. Despre „Martorii tacuti”, artista a afirmat ca „este o expozitie care se doreste a fi de concept, in primul rand, si pe urma de tehnica”. Veti intra intr-o lume de experimentare a combinatilor de tehnici si o aducere in actul artistic contemporan a vechilor tehnici in care motive stravechi– spirala, crucea si alte motive geometrice cu caracter simbolic se imbina intr-ocontributie novatoare impresionanta (dupa Mihaela Varga, istoric de arta, in deschiderea expozitiei).
Tot in prima zi ne-am bucurat si de inaugurarea expozitiei de fotografii „Chopin 2010”, Polonia, realizata de Tv Project.
Proiectiile filmelor au fost deschise de „Calatorie in Palestina”,regia Marcu Beza, 1931, parte a istoriei documentarului turistic romanesc, dar care urmareste si marturiile romanesti in Tara Sfanta si evolutia motivelor etnografice traditionale. Totodata, ne arata ca „mesajul filmului documentar a ramas acelasi, si anume arata locul si indeamna la drum” (Ileana Danalache).
Documentarele aflate in competitie au fost proiectate pana seara tarziu, fiind cuprinse in 3 mari categorii: documentare de arta, ecologice si de turism.
Prima conferinta de presa s-a bucurat de participarea regizorilor Georgia Petrali, (Grecia- Creta, regizoarea filmului “Wrinkles and Dreams”„, 2008), Juan Eduardo Ossa (Chile, regizor „Come to Feel the Patagonia”,2010), si Marian Baciu (Romania, regizor „Pan-Gheorghe Zamfir”, 2010) (vezi Video).
Va prezentam mai jos cateva selectii ale documentarelor proiectate in prima zi.
In data de 30 septembrie 2010, ora 19.00, la Centrul Cultural „Ion Manu”, Otopeni va fi proiectat in premiera nationala filmul „Copsa Mica- Povestea unei sperante”, in cadrul competitiei Festivalul Internaţional de Film “Document.Art.”, cea de-a XIV-a editie.
Documentarul, in regia lui Mihai Andrei, este parte a colectiei de film „ROcumentar”, initiata in 2005 de studioul AndemMotionFilms si nominalizata in 2010 la Gala Societatii Civile. Colectia cuprinde 5 filme de prezentare ale oraselor din Transilvania (Cisnadie, Cisnadioara, Nocrich, Ocna Sibiului si Copsa Mica) si ridica o serie de problematici, legate de prezentarea adevarurilor istorice- Cisnadie, descoperirea unor fosile de o mare valoare -Cisnadioara, saracia unor localitati –Nocrich sau poluare -Copsa Mica.
„Copsa Mica- Povestea unei sperante” a fost realizat in 2008, in 9 luni, cu buget redus si are ca scop relansarea orasului negru al Europei. „Cel mai teribil loc de pe Planeta”, asa cum este prezentat antagonic la inceputul filmului, se dezvaluie in cele26 de minute ale documentarului ca un oras al sperantei. „O sa va prezint un oras schimbat. O viziune noua despre cel ce se numea odata, cel mai poluat oras din Europa” …ne promite Andem, in acest film.
„Copsa Mica- Povestea unei sperante” reprezinta si filmul oficial al orasului, fiind parte a campaniei de promovare a primariei Copsei Mici.
„Participarea studioului de film AndemMotionFilms in cadrul competitiei Festivalul Internaţional de Film “Document.Art.”, cea de-a XIV-a editie, aduce cu sine si proiectia in premiera nationala a documentarului <<Copsa Mica- Povestea unei sperante>>, intrucat din lipsa de fonduri o premiera propriu-zisa nu a putut avea loc”, afirma PR-ul studioului, Theodora Alexandra Luca.
“We are in the most dreadful place on Earth! A God-forgotten place, one of the most polluted…At least this is what one would have said about Copsa Mica. I will bring to your attention a changed city. A new perspective of what was once called the most polluted towns in Europe…” this is what Andem promises in the film.
What is more left to say about a city that seems to have told its story, especially when our sense of history has diminished? The modern eye only sees the remains of a disastrous industry and the ruins that marked Copsa Mica as a city with no chance. There are just a few notes that tell that Copsa Mica was a beautiful settlement just like any other 600 years ago.
The film was produced in 2008, in 9 months, with a low budget and had as main goal the rediscovery of Europe’s darkest city. It is also included in the advertising campaign of Copsa Mica city hall.
Seminar/ Workshop “The actor in front of the camera”

The delicacy in which someone handles the camera is a capture relationship, a knowledge relationship, a magic and mysterious procedure. The seminar aims at comprehending this issue, comprehending the way in which an actor/ actress delivers their performance in front of the camera, in front the photographic or the cinematographic lens.
Acting on a theatrical play, on a TV series, on a film. What makes them different and how can the director or the actor approach better their choices? Where do photography and cinema derive from? Which characteristic is attached to its roots and in which ways does it evolve as time passes by? What differences arise from the “mother” theatrical action? How does the space, scenery, costumes, make up, motion, invade and define a performance? In which ways have technological means drastically changed the way we play a part?
Theatrical play and rehearsals. Film script and rehearsals. The whole ensemble. Text discontinuity. The relationship with the audience and crew. Sentimentality and detached collaboration. The lens, body, lights, microphone, equipage. Both the actor and the director are connected to the issue of deep knowledge and conquest of the actor’s performance in front of the camera. The actor’s realization, psychology, nervousness, forms of expression, voice, body and soul. Frames and the way audience and observers perceive them.
Within the seminar framework, apart from theoretical approaches, the screening of films distinguished for their actors’ major performances will be included, along with their analysis. Furthermore, there will be a practical approach interfering with the use of a text and performing exercises in front of the camera. Also, a short film will be created and it isgoing to be screened on October 18th at Pallas theatre.

Thanassis Sarantos / Director, actor
Born in Athens, he studied English Literature in Athens, Acting at the Carolos Koun Drama Theater School in Athens and Film Direction at the New York Film Academy on scholarships from the Fulbright Foundation, the Onassis Foundation and the Greek Film Centre. While in New York, he worked as an actor and assistant director under Robert Wilson at the Watermill Center (2000) and went on to perform in Wilson’s production of Prometheus at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall (2001). On his return to Greece, he acted and directed in a number of
Greek theaters, played various roles on Greek TV and founded the Ithikon Akmeotaton production company, directing Albert Camus’ Caligula (2000), Antoine de Saint Exupery’s The Little Prince (2003) and two plays by Marius von Mayenburg—The Ugly One (2008) and The Dog, the Night and the Knife (2009)—for the stage. He also served a scriptwriting internship in Berlin in 2007as part of the Nipkow Programm, during which he participated in the Berlinale Talent Campus at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival.

2004 White Light, (Εn Lefko), 35mm, 22 min, color. Audience Award at the1st Cyprus International Film Festival, 2006. Special Mention at the 13th Mediterranean Festival of New Filmmakers in Larissa, 2005. National Film Award 2004 (Greek Ministry of Culture for Short Film). Greek Film Centre award. Honorary distinction for best acting in the Film Festival of Drama 2004.
