Awwww! Thanks, Jim! You’ve no idea how much I appreciate knowing you are always in my corner. ❤
(BTW, I played the organ in church yesterday for the first time here. Heck, first time in eight or nine years! I caught myself wishing you and your family were in the congregation. Maybe I'd have been less nervous/terrified!)

I remember having to drive a couple of times in Vancouver, Washington. Nothing so adventurous as your experience, but since I was on summer tires and no chains, not a slam dunk either. There it’s the drivers not the snow that’s the wild card factor. Even though they got snow a few days almost every year, it was always like they had never seen it before and couldn’t believe they actually needed to drive differently. You may have experienced such drivers yourself when you lived in WA.

Spoiler if anyone else is reading- but yeah that was my take. Basically they both knew the right thing was to find out if someone was missing a baby but they told themselves things… oh surely there’s no one and wouldn’t it be awful to send the kid to an orphanage and Hey they’re heroes really

It’s always interesting to me how different people see books so differently based on their own experiences. I absolutely agree that one of the themes was exactly as you described. But I also think another theme was about how extreme grief and pain can drive one to do the unthinkable.

I hate to admit it but I’m not a big reader but I picked this up years back and loved it. I thought the main idea is how we all are able to talk ourselves into doing something wrong and we have to ignore that voice that tells us to do that.
