SPELLETICH/THOMPSON: ON ICE + LORD + WOBBLY + Prelinger
UPDATE:
ICE(age)
On November 22, 2025. I curated a screening and performances on and about ICE at Artists Television Access in San Francisco, California.
Craig Baldwin, of course, made it all happen in the way only he can.
A standing room crowd packed the immutable venue. For the final screening, I collaborated on, with Seamus, and a legendary punk composer, and a notorious international reporter, creating a live remediation of ICE depredations, garnered from reporters on the ground.
An ICE pineta was disemboweled, and treats were scattered about the audience.
After the screenings and events, a LONG and deep conversation and Q & A occurred with the audience with reporters on the front line, and arists’s responses.
Some takeaways from the conversation were:
There is plenty of inspirational dissent happening.
Locals are banding together and resisting in profound and EFFECTIVE ways.
It’s a class war after all.
People of color are being targeted first. Next, they will come after any and all dissenters. Don’t be tricked into thinking you are immune to this. This is just the beginning.
Corporations run and funded by oligarchs are funding this.
Boycotts are effective.
Everyone hates Nazi’s.
The evening also featured the incomparable Chip Lord screening 2 shorts, NOT Top Gun and WEIRD Turn Pro.
Also, Wobbly performed a stunning live soundtrack to Negativland, the pieces “Sycamore” and “A nice Place to Live”, the masterful Mr. Rick Prelinger expertly unspools what’s too often hidden in the archive–how a geographic paradise has been despoiled by prisons and factory-farming. Incredible.
It was all live, improvisational, chance entered into the dialogue, humor, terror and rebellion. People showed up early and stayed late. The conversation continues.
“It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.”
-Upton Sinclair

The Cali Apocalypse plays out ever more cinematically in this scream of rage against the evil machine that is ICE! Mission gem/Ant Farm vet Chip Lord kicks it off with the new super-cut of his classic Not Top Gun, puncturing the retrograde militarism oozing out of San Diego.
