In the beginning a bunch of hydrogen atoms were whizzing around in outer space. Soon the circle they travelled in got tighter, forming a growing spherical mass in the centre. Eventually some protons and neutrons and other bits and bobs started misbehaving, there was some fusion and an almighty explosion, somebody cried, “Oh fuck!” and Just Language was born.
Eric and Dan somehow manage to work (if you can call it that) together on this project despite being seperated by the Atlantic Ocean, which really isn’t that much of a divide.

Dan lives in Derbyshire County, England, UK.
His interest in words and language stems from when he started reading newspapers in the 1980s and didn’t have a clue what half the words meant, and had to look up words like nadir, asshole and megalomania in the dictionary which taught him words even his teachers didn’t know or like, words such as: if, but, why.
His favourite word is “inertia.”

Eric resides in Upstate South Carolina, USA, and enjoys referring to himself in the third person.
Eric is a journalist whose interest in language is necessary for staying employed. He speaks with a bit of a Southern drawl and enjoys learning from others across the globe with exotic accents — particularly if they can divulge the best literary devices for putting down yo mama.
Eric likes names for businesses and songs that substitute “k” for “c” and “z” for “s.”
Eric’s favorite word is “metropolis.”
Discovered your site through Eric’s entry with a Pez candy reference.
Absolutely love you men.

Hello Dan,
Am new to this blogging. Used to use pencil and paper exclusively.
Your Links list is a treasure. I am familiar with the Online Etymology site already. I get lost there from time to time. I will be visiting the dmoz site often now. Thanks for that.
Keep writing. Very refreshing.
Leslie
P S In Arizona USA we don’t change clocks back and forth. What a pleasant relief.
Hi Leslie
Thanks for stopping by. We’ll keep writing. Keep blogging. I’m pretty much addicted to dmoz..
Not changing the clocks for ‘DST’ sounds like a very good idea.
Cheers
Dan – my favorite word man –
How’s by you?
So glad to see that you’re still pushing out the words over here … have sorely missed this particular blog!
Drop me a line if you can … I have a question for you. (wearyhag@gmail.com)
Hope you’re doing well …
Carol

Hi, I have a question. A while back, I noticed that most words that end in alm are pronounced ahm. (psalm, palm, calm etc)
Do you have any info. on that?
thanks,
Steve
Hi Steve
I’m unable to answer your question but will be looking into this myself.
Regards
Dan
i’m a TV news writer and also write a MMA blog and came across your website when search the web for the use of “pled” vs “pleaded” in story. This is a great reference to me cuz my grammar SUCKS and I’ve skirted by too much on “what would the common man say” syndrome. Thanks guys, will be referencing here often now.
Just remembered this site and am glad to see you guys are still at it. I always enjoyed it. Will try to stop by more often.
