Today’s prompt for #JusJoJan the 31st and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “scratch an itch.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!
Itches are stitches. Where to go from there? One thing I’ve learned from experience is that a lot of times I have itchy skin, it’s because its DRY. Sometimes all my itchy skin needs is moisture. So why do we itch when it doesn’t always help. Oh, it feels good to scratch, because it’s so hard to resist. Did anyone feel the urge to scratch while writing this post? Better move on!
But seriously, when scratching can so often make things worse, as in the worst itches of poison ivy or some other contact dermatitis as they call it, then why is the urge to scratch so strong? Is it because there might just be a bug on us and we need to get it off? Makes me want to research this, but that’s a rabbit hole in the bank of the stream of consciousness. A stream bank would not be a good place for a rabbit hole, though because it would be likely to flood, so scratch that.
Rabbits scratch itches. Dogs definitely scratch itches and can get into trouble with hair loss and all kinds of bad things from scratching too much. I guess scratching in moderation is okay, but a lot of times they tell you not to scratch. It can drive a person/dog/cat… crazy.
Let’s go somewhere else with this rather than going crazy.
Now, my head itches. It’s probably just dry skin, which happens more in the winter and as we get older. Maybe I’ll remember to turn on the little humidifier in the bedroom tonight. If you’re as old as me, you might remember when they were called vaporizers and there was a big glass jar and steam came out. It was all rather mysterious when I was a child. I have a glass jar from an old vaporizer that was in my parents’ house. I have seashells in it. That way, it can’t vaporize anybody, I hope.
There’s a cow named Veronica who has learned how to use a tool to scratch her itches. I was going to put this in Good News Tuesday because it suggests shows cows are intelligent, (so don’t eat them! says this mostly vegan vegetarian.) But since the story fits with today’s prompt, here’s a video about Veronica.

Below are a couple pictures from last weekend’s snow. Temperatures have not been high enough to melt much of it and the top got slick.

Happily, we did get out on Wednesday to take Marley for a pup cup at the Main Street Coffee Shop where I was intrigued by the heart shadows and watching the artist paint hearts on the window.

Now we have steady snow falling again on top of the icy batch. Today’s snow started last night and is fluffier, so we’re getting a nice soft layer – very pretty. I hope to get some photos later.
Please join me in prayer, healing thoughts, and good vibes for the venerable monk, Bhikkhu Pannakara, spiritual leader of the Walk for Peace. He has not been feeling well for a few days and, until recently, continued to push himself to walk anyway while getting IV fluids and antibiotics. The monks have each lost over 20 pounds so far from walking every day, carrying their belongings, and not eating much. I just read, that Bhikkhu Pannakara, age 44, has agreed to go head to tonight’s rest area for some recuperation time.
Thank you!
