I too was there in the 50’s, as summer boards, in the “Moyens” middle girls group. Younger sister in “babies” and older one in ” Big Girls” another sister with myself. At almost 76 yrs.nowcan remember too many heartbrecks. Sister Bibien was a real terror, not only to me but to other girls as well. She was in charge of the middle group with day care assisted by Miss Lillian. Miss Lillian favored my sister and took only her on day trips to downtown& the movies. I remember everyone as being scared, and too frighten to say boo. I was sick one night and only made it half way from my bed to the huge lavatory” remembering the 5 ft round faucets that had foot pedals to control shower of water outlets, only to have SisterBiibien’s light go on from her potitioned bedroom withhin our dormitory.the fear set in & I threw up in the isles at. The sight of Sister in her sleeping cloths & the fury in her manna were equal in dislike. Was instructed to walk the 5 flights of stairs to the laundry area to retrieve bucket & mop, Not to use the elevator either way and to clean up my mess. With fever & lightheadedness did just that. Must have been 7 yrs old best I can recall. Believe the mop weighted more than I?but got it cleaned up.Another time a lovely tiny girl had an accident & wet herself, I swear what I along with all the other girls in the dorm, maybe 24-25, witnessed was truly tragic, Actually Sister Vivien was called Mother Bone in at that time, proceeded to scold, humiliate, and rough house her while putting a diaper on this.young beautiful child. Saturday nights we were to clean& polish our shoes for Sunday mass, being less fortunate than everyone else, my sister & I only had sneakers, no leather shoes for us and Mother Bibien enjoyed mocking sister & I over polishing our cloth sneakers. She was a ” real piece of work” as they say.. Yrs later my family & I were enjoying a beautiful summer picnic at Manville Pond when our Mother rushed us out of the water to feet a group of nuns, only to see Mother Bibien’s face amoung them, when my mother asked if we didn’t remember Mother Bibien, I was surly in my response, yeah, I remember Mother Bibien” only for my mother to slap me across my face. But I’d do all again.
]]>I remember Father Crapeau. He lived in the house outside the fence of the motions (junior girls). I remember him as being very tall.
]]>Hello Carol,
My father and his brothers were there in the 40’s. Dad didn’t talk much about their time there, but what he did tell us was not nice. Some of the nuns were mean – not all – but some. My mom found it hard to believe that the nuns could be so mean, until she met a women who also spent time there and she told my mom to believe every story he told. So sad
I believe you may have been at St Francis the sometime as my father and his brothers (Andre, Horace, and Anatole. Their last name was Belhumeur (their aunt later adopted them and the last name was changed to Carey.
]]>Hey Gary,
When were you there. Your name seems familiar. My brother and I were at St Francis up until 1958. And then we Went to St Aloysius. His name was Jerry
Hi All, Nice to have validation of memories from a significant place few people remember as having even existed! My name is Elizabeth Coderre, and I am Cree-Metis. Went to Mt. St. Francis for kindergarten in 1964 or 65. Had Sr. Marie Bon Pasteur, who sent a note home to my parents saying I was a “chatter box.” Pretty funny considering I was an only child to aged parents and super shy. Remember the large, circular swing outside that many of us kids could sit on at once while it spun around with all our legs dangling down from the wooden bench in the air. Also remember my best friend Ruth at the time, and I getting to name a brand new baby orphan at recess one day when a nun called down to us from a window on the upper floor!
]]>Does your mother remember a Evelyn Labonte?
]]>I was there at age 3 around 1954. And remember the row of beds with the night stand.
]]>Dennis. I’m not remembering you either. I believe the stress I was under while being there was blocked in order save my sanity. My brother was there also his name is Alan.
