GAME DESIGN AS A LIVE EXPERIMENT
During a recent IBB workshop led by Travis (@santu.pretu), students reimagined classic playground games and turned them into fully immersive experiences. Working in groups, they designed three original games where strategy, chaos, sound, movement, and teamwork collide.

Drunk Uncle
One player. Blindfolded. Spun around. Armed with a spray bottle. The rest? Silent party guests trying not to get caught. Absurd, chaotic, and unexpectedly intense.

Snake vs Cat
Light vs dark. Predator vs prey. The Cat moves only in the light. The Snake hunts in the dark with a flashlight. Ribbons, masks, flickering lights and music guiding the pace… every step counts.

Don’t Die
Inspired by The Floor Is Lava and Simon Says. Players guide human pawns across elevated platforms, following commands, spinning wheels, losing balance, restarting, reviving. Precision, trust, and timing decide everything.

IBB is where contemporary art is learned, tested, and lived on Curaçao.
A place where play becomes strategy, rules become questions,
and making art means thinking differently…together.

Last night we celebrated the presentation of “Back to Your Hood”, a project made possible by the Amarte Fonds in collaboration with Instituto Buena Bista.
Artist Shardenia Felicia worked with students from St. Paulus VSBO and Radulphus College, exploring how they see, or would like to see, Curaçao. Together they created two large-scale paintings that sparked honest, hopeful conversations about community, change, and imagination.
One of the St. Paulus’ teachers reflected that this shouldn’t be a one-time project, because when art enters the classroom, it opens hearts, minds, and conversations. A powerful reminder! ⚡️
Thank you to Amarte Fonds, Shardenia, all participating students, and everyone who believes in art’s power to create lasting impact.

Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) is proud to present an

Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) is proud to present an artist talk by their current artist in residence in the program supported by the Mondriaan Fund Clémence Lollia Hilaire.
Clémence will introduce her practice, blending historical inquiry with embodied experience. She will present some key themes in her recent work centered on medical misogyny and misogynoir and reflect on syncretism as a method in her art.
Following the screening of a short experimental film, we will gather to prepare a remedy using three plants from Curaçao, each known for supporting womb health. The session will be guided by Layla Martien, herbalist at the Den Paradera botanical garden. If you’d like to take some of the remedy home with you, please bring a small container.
Clémence Lollia Hilaire is an artist from Guadeloupe, who thinks a lot about extraction and its afterlives, not only as material dispossession, but as an ongoing epistemic and affective rupture that conditions how the self is formed, felt, and imagined. Filmmaking, sculpture and installation, are means to foreground these persistent logics, and seek to explore potential pathways beyond them.
The artist talk will be hosted by Cathedral of Thorns and will start at 19:00 on August 26, 2025.

Another end of an academic year and another group of talented young creatives are embarking on the next stage of their journey. The team at IBB wants to congratulate all six of our graduates (fltr: Madou Lammers, Stephanie de Araujo, Axl Francisca, Sean Capella, Angely Lobo Ludovic, Jane Castillo) this year and wish them all the best and lots of perseverance in their future careers.
