Mysteries of the Universe
Have people ever wondered if ghosts really do exist? I'm not normally one who would ask this kind of question but something just happened that freaked me out in the "Something really doesn't add up" way. About 15 minutes ago, I accidentally dropped a 4 sided die onto the floor near my computer. I go down to pick it up only to find it isn't on the floor. Now, when a 4 sided die gets dropped onto a carpet floor, it will not go very far from the point where the die initially lands. (A few trials just now had the 4 sided die go about 30 cms from the drop point and bounces twice at the very most before stopping.) I searched for about 10 minutes trying to find this die, looking around everywhere on the floor in the room without any success. (The room is a small room.) In trying to find assist trying to find this 4 sided die, I decided to put all the dice that was on the table into my Uni bag for Roleplaying Monday (Yes, I know that this will be irrelevant to most people since I rarely update this blooming thing.) (Hurray for Parenthesis!) and clean the desk. Now, to explain this next bit, a small matter of detail must be pointed out now. When dice is not in my bag, it is in this paper mache cup that I made in primary school and is the sum of all the artistic talent I have, ie. the square root of -1. It is only half full because the rest of the dice are in the forementioned Uni bag. This dice cup is in my room, with my Uni bag. Anyway, for some reason, I decided to look into the dice cup only to find that the 4 sided die I was looking for was right there, almost on top. As far as I'm concerned, it appears to have traveled about 5 metres to get to the dice cup. I have no other logical explanation for this happening. Maybe it is late and I'm not thinking straight, what with the lack of sleep lately. *shrug* Current Mood: freaked | | Wednesday, July 13th, 2005 | | 9:15 am |
Hurray for bureaucracy
Thank you for making me wait 20 minutes just to tell me that my Health Care card is still in the mail even though I got the confirmation letter 3 weeks ago... Also, thank you for sending said Health Care card last Friday when you had plenty of time to send it. Stupidity and Bureaucracy 2 - Common sense 0 | | Tuesday, July 12th, 2005 | | 9:06 pm |
Huzzah
And the results are in. *Insert drum roll here* I passed all my units. *Insert cheer* I got 88 for Maths, 80 for Microeconomics, 69 for Physical Electronics and 66 for Human Resource Management. I am mildly surprised that I got a high mark for PE but I'll take it since it means I won't have to do that subject ever again. Oh.. It was my birthday last Friday but that isn't really an important day, so I didn't bother posting about it. | | Thursday, June 30th, 2005 | | 8:53 am |
Self Sleep Deprivation
I always have trouble falling asleep. I think it is more because I think too much when I'm trying. Physically, I may be tired as all hell but mentally I keep thinking, which keeps me up. It's probably a bad thing that I've semi-gotten used to it. I think about a lot of things, really. I think I thought up of an answer to a Java problem I was having while I was trying to get to sleep. Last night, I thought up of a fool-proof solution that will work for any n for a puzzle I came across last night. Sadly, it only took a couple of minutes and I don't even know why I was thinking of a solution. Correction: I do remember that I was trying to work out whether or not (2^2n) - 1 is divisible for 3 mentally. How I got there is another matter. Speaking of puzzles, Sudoku is awesome. The fact that solving the puzzles in the Sunday Times (the only paper I get) is in my regular Sunday morning routine speaks volumes. Yes, I know that I rarely post here but those who know me know that I'm farily quiet about my feelings anyway. | | Wednesday, May 11th, 2005 | | 10:56 pm |
A Bad Day
First off, I managed to cut the back of my ankle (around that area, anyway) very bad because the door decided to be at the wrong place at the wrong time when I lifted my foot up into a very sharp corner. This is bad considering the significant amount of walking I was going to do since I went to see Perth Glory play Members Equity Stadium. It was also raining for the most part in the first half and, for various reasons, I didn't put on this cheap-ass poncho/glorified plastic bag to keep the rain out until about 30 minutes in. However, the Glory lost 2-1 (stupid referee) and, going by that performance, the Glory might struggle. It might just have been the rain though. | | Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005 | | 8:35 pm |
INFJ - the counselor You scored 36% I to E, 42% N to S, 28% F to T, and 36% J to P! | Your type is best summed up by the word "counselor", which belongs to the larger group of idealists. Only 2% of the population share your type. You are so empathic that you often know what others need before they know themselves. You are a complex person who can deal with complicated issues and people, almost prefer to, as you love problem solving. You can be something of an idealist or perfectionist, and should try to take yourself a little less seriously. You are a supportive and insightful romantic partner, encouraging your mate to have dreams and work hard to make those dreams come true. Because you are so creative, you have a wealth of ideas to help them toward those goals. You need harmony so much that you are driven to resolve conflict quickly, as long as the terms don't violate your ethics. You feel the most appreciated when your partner admires your creativity, trusts your inspirations, and respects your values. It is also vitally important that your partner be open and emotionally available - in other words, that they be willing to share themselves completely.

I officially have no life whatsoever
I just spent about an hour last night writing up an official help page for an online game because I didn't have much else to do and I spent another half an hour putting on my "anal-retentive" hat nitpicking grammar and such for another help page. This brings the total of "Online games I'm heavily involved in" to 2, which is perhaps 1 too many. In other news, I've just started playing Civ III again. Conquering worlds is always fun except for the tedious part of moving 80 cavalries all over the place. Current Mood: nerdy | | Thursday, March 31st, 2005 | | 12:33 pm |
The eating habits of my family
I know that the eating habits of my family are very weird compared to most normal families. The perfect example is eating pizza with bland congee (rice porridge.) However, I think having instant noodles with baby cos lettuce is definitely a new one. Current Mood: full | | Sunday, March 13th, 2005 | | 11:40 am |

Politics...
I was watching the Seven coverage of the WA election result and then the ABC coverage since the Seven coerage was, by far, appalling and slightly painful to watch as Reece Whitby seemed to look like a bumbling idiot. Personally, I am happy with Labor winning the election more because I didn't like the idea of Colin Barnett becoming the Premier of WA. I didn't need justification to not vote Liberal but the "I'll build it at any cost but that cost will be $2 billion" Kimberly Canal was the clincher for me. That was a surprise to me; that Colin Barnett was, effectively, willing to write a blank cheque. "At any cost" is always a stupid and dangerous term to use since, to me, it tells me that they are willing to spend $193,183,482,509,383 on something. What really does anger me is that the referendum on extended trading and Sunday trading was defeated because people who felt that the world was going to end if it was introduced. "People will no longer play sports since they'll be shopping." "Families will crumble because people will be shopping instead of caring for children." To those comments, I say "You choose whether or not you shop or not." Actually, I wouldn't say that. I'd say something a lot more harsher, using more expletives and possible include an insult towards someone's mother somewhere along the line. It was a bloody scare campaign by the "No" campaign. It is a real shame that it worked. The people voted No deprived the opportunity of the people who wanted to to shop whenever they want, which occurs in every other state with no catastrophic affects so far. Oh well... WA chooses the remain in the Stone Age. I think this quote from Discworld (The Fifth Elephnat) sums things up nicely. Vimes had once discussed the Ephebian idea of 'democracy' with Carrot, and had been rather interested in the idea that everyone* had a vote until he found out that while he, Vimes, would have a vote, there was no way in the rules that anyone could prevent Nobby Nobbs from having one as well. Vimes could see the flaw there straight away.

Logic = 0
Something I guess I'll never understand. Where is the logic in me getting scolded by my parents for spending money (about $85) from my own bank account? Apparently there is some logic in it but I fail to see it. Current Mood: angry | | Monday, February 14th, 2005 | | 10:08 pm |

Making fun on thy self
Is it me or is an Asian talking with a lisp just peculiar? For those wondering, because of the wisdom teeth surgery, I'm talking with a slight lisp and it is annoying the hell out of me. | | Saturday, January 8th, 2005 | | 4:07 pm |

Pain in 3 parts Pain Number 1
Having your wisdom teeth done is a frightfully painful experience and it isn't the surgery that hurts. It is the aftermath. Not enough painkillers... However, it does mean I get to stay at home a lot... This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for:
Pain Number 2
My internet connection has been restricted to nights only.
KHAN!
Of course, the pain is worsened by:
Pain Number 3
My expected new computer has been shelved til later due to the cost of said surgery.
If swear words were bombs, the target would be run into the ground at least 88 times.

Jason Doan's Top 2 Computer-Related Whinges
1. My computer is too slow
Normally, this wouldn't be too much of a problem. However, when one has a Pentium 2 400 as their computer, there needs to be an upgrade soon. Considering there are decent computers out that are, at least. 3 times as fast as mine, I hope to get a resolution soon.
2. No ADSL
This prevents me from downloading things quickly, which I tend to do lots... I would get ADSL is I wasn't too far from my exchange... Have a few potentials ways to solve this problem in the future, but we'll see... | | 7:22 am |
Christmas is all around me
Waking up early to get to work sucks. (I work at the registers at Target in the Galleria if you didn't know by now.) 4 hours of serving customers... Lots and lots of customers who have to do Christmas shopping still. All in all, I have about 15 hours or so of work to do including the last 3 shopping hours before Christmas (3-6 on Christmas Eve) In a lesser sense, I'll be glad that I'll be getting my wisdom teeth done early next month just so I can get some rest. I haven't had a rest day since Wednesday and won't get another rest day until Christmas. Oh well... Time is short and the car is leaving... TV: A general commentary on the shows I watch
Iron Chef: Watch it. Watch it now. Best way to describe it would be a mix between a cooking show and Gladiator. One challenger vs one Iron Chef. Extreme Cooking Action! (There is a good reason why I'm overweight by the way.) The Amazing Race: I watch it anyway even though it is clear it is slightly dumbed down for American audiences since they have to be reminded about what a Fast Forward is, what a Yield is, etc. Anyways, I don't like Colin and Christie. They deserve to win but I just think Colin is a total wife beater. Admittedly, they did deserve to be eliminated in the last leg. (It is a team race after all. One person is not a team of two...) However, I will laugh heartily if they get eliminated in the next leg. If I was Chip and Kim in that last leg, I wouldn't have run for the goal when they had to construct the jeepni. (sp?) Smarter movie would have been to take their time and have either the Mums (I never liked spelling it Moms) or Brandon and Nicole use their Yield power on Colin and Christie so they can still remain a snake in the grass. Personally, I want the Mums to win just for the novelty aspect. They would be the first all-female couple to win. There have been, off memory, 3 all guys teams and 1 co-ed team who have won The Amazing Race. (I've been watching for a while now.) The Apprentice: I want to watch it but since Channel 9 have dicked around with schedules and, even then, don't show the full episodes... This shits me completely. Oh well... Time to bittorrent. Oh... I should add that I'm totally pissed off that Colonisation for Windows has just decided to stop working for me. I may not have been good at the game but I was improving... slowly... but I was getting used to the ideas. A game where you can't spam units (like preachers, blacksmiths or even soldiers) since your colonies would suffer from lack of food/resources. Also, you can't just get a single resource either since you'll plunge the markets back home so it won't be even worth selling. Pity there is no multiplayer option... It was working fine but it has been getting slowly unstable until I had to delete... Perhaps it is time for a defrag or format... Old School Games
I've been playing Magic: the Gathering lately on the PC (That's the now defunct Microprose game released about 1996 and includes both Spells of the Ancients and Duels of the Planeswalkers expansions.) and I've been just dueling a lot. One thing I should mention right now is that M:tG and Windows XP do not like each other at all. The sad thing is that I have to download a bootleg version of the game from Underdogs despite the fact that I own a legitimate copy... That shitted me a lot. Anyway, I've made a deck you wouldn't normally be able to do. 35 Plague Rats, 8 Black Lotuses and 17 Swamps. Now, 1 Plague Rat by itself is useless since it would be a 1/1. However, 2 Plague Rats will both be 2/2. 3 PRs = 3 * 3/3s etc. Basically, the aim is to just have PRs and overrunning them. It is a very fun deck to play. In my trials so far, I've only lost about 2 times out of about 15 and in those 2 times, it was due to being mana screwed. (You need 3 mana to play a PR...) For those who don't know anything about Magic, ignore me. Current Mood: happy |
