About
ILOCANO ONLINE, in spite of the name, is a weblog written in both Ilocano and English. Most any topic is fair game here but we’ll try to focus on the Ilocano language and Iloco literature and culture as we go along. We use English every now and then to reach a wider audience because we’re aware that there are those among the younger generation who have an Ilocano heritage but who have been born far removed from Ilocandia
and don’t read or communicate in their ancestral tongue. We use Ilocano, as well, laced with some code-switching on occasion which of course exposes our inadequacies. We invite your comments and/or participation as guest bloggers here. We only ask for a modicum of conduct befitting a civilized exchange of ideas. – Joe Padre [See me in Facebook]

Hello fellow Ilocano. I’ve been working on an online Ilokano English dictionary for the past few years and would like to share it with you and your visitors. If you could kindly mention or add a link to your page to my site, https://www.toidp.com, I would greatly appreciate it. Just doing my part in trying to keep the language and our culture persisting through future generations.
Agyamanak,
Daniel-Jay (DJ)
Dear Daniel-Jay,
Your online Ilocano-English/English-Ilocano dictionary is now linked to this website and also to Ilocano Online [https://www.ilocano-online.com/] which is where I intend to build a multi-resource Ilocano site for all of us. Great effort on your part! This will be an indispensable resource once DepEd 74 s. 2009, the all-too-important language policy shift within the Department of Education which mandates the use of the local language or mother tongue as the medium of instruction from preschool to at least grade three, is implemented soon. Check it out at Multilingual Education/Philippines.
Kindly email me more about your project, like how you plan to expand it, etc. and I will let you know my original intention on the matter when I put up https://www.ilocano-online.com.
Hi Joe,
I was inactive in blogging for quite sometime now the reason being I tried to search the keywords of my blog to assess if I am still Googable. To my surprise, there’s another Ilocano site in WordPress. Perhaps when you created this blog, ilocano.wordpress.com was already taken.
Maragsakanak la unay nga nakasarak datoy blog mo. Adu iti maadal ko panggep iti padpadak nga Ilocano. Mailiwak pay nga agbasa iti kakastoy nga sursurat kas idi haiskul nu agbasaak iti umuna wenno maikadwa nga maibasa bago datay sermon ni Apo Padi tunggal misa.
I am looking forward in reading more of your Ilocano articles.
Regards,
Lloyd
Patgec a Lloyd,

Agarup tallo a tawen itan diay blogmo. Kinapudnona, saanco nga ammo nga inrugim idin agsipud ta nasangal daytoy bucodco a wordpress blog cas blog ti website, Ilocano Online, nga isu met ti casla panid ti Ilocano iti Multilingual Education Philippines blog.
Maayatannac met a simmarungcar iti blogmo, nangruna ket naimatangac ti napintas a panangtubaymo cadagiti postem. You simply made me jealous because you have two beautiful angels; I have none, nada, zilch…
I hope you get turbo-charged and be an active blogger again. Sayang…..
Manong Joe
Okey daytoy. Adda orihinal nga Ilocano manuscript circa 1860-1910s nga insurat ti maysa a nagbalin a presidente municipal idiay Lepanto. Sigud a taga-Tagudin, Ilocos Sur Dandaniw, salaysay ken paspasamak idi panawenna a naisurat iti daan a gramatica ilocana ken ortografia. It validates some Philippine historical events, kuna ti nangipablaak, a great granddaughter of Don Sabas Gaerlan who wrote it in elaborate and stylish Ilocano script. Kunak man a saan a magatadan daytoy a dokumento ti historia ken Literatura Ilocana.
