I Hate Duke
Always have. And it's because of things like this. Even though it was expected, it still sucks.

Is Dee Brown gone?
The blog of the authoritative Mark Tupper quotes Dee Brown as saying that he was approaching the draft with the mindset that he will not be returning to Illinois, that these are his last few days of college.

Dee Brown to declare for 2005 NBA Draft
ESPN.com is reporting that Illinois junior Dee Brown will declare for the 2005 NBA Draft today but not sign with an agent.
Illini Wonk expected this, but still believes that Brown will be in Champaign next year leading the Fighting Illini as they pursue a third straight outright Big Ten conference title. In a earlier post, Brendan McGovern said I think Brown understands that he can really improve his draft stock by being THE guy for Illinois next season.
Marlen Garcia of the Chicago Tribune writes some NBA scouts believe Brown would not be drafted until the second round which means no guaranteed contract. According to his brother Kevin, Brown will go only if he would be projected to go in the first round.
As Adam Rittenberg points out in the Daily Herald, Brown would have until June 21 to withdraw from the NBA Draft.
At the time of this post, there was no word on a possible news conference today. Stay tuned to Illini Wonk for further news... posted by Illiniwonk at 8:59 AM |

Illini Land 2006 Recruit
He averaged 22.3 points and 11.1 rebounds as a junior for Lutheran West High School in Rocky River, Ohio, and on Sunday night Richard Semrau made a commitment to the Illinois Basketball team. The 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward is regarded among the top 75 juniors in the nation. He had an offer from Florida and interest from North Carolina. You can see a picture here. On his blog, Mark Tupper says Semrau's upside is through-the-roof high, saying he may be the best outside shooting big man whose name was not Brian Cook.
Semrau visited the Illinois campus on the same weekend as Jon Scheyer, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound small forward who led Glenbrook North to the Class AA title in March. He's playing high school ball for Bruce Weber's brother and has narrowed his decision to Illinois, Duke or Arizona. His decision is expected sometime this summer and maybe soon.
Matt Trowbridge of the Rockford Register-Star thinks Scheyer should go to Illinois, the school he'll have more fun at.
The rest of Illinois' 2006 recruiting class looks promising. Stay tuned to Illini Wonk for updates. posted by Illiniwonk at 10:33 PM |
