Sat, 17 Jan 2026 17:26:31 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27847 January 12, 2026 Resist U.S.-led War of Seattle posted the following statement on Jan. 10, 2026. On January 1, 2026, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) deployed four attack helicopters that dropped 12 bombs, followed by continuous aerial strafing for several hours, terrorizing the peasant and Indigenous Mangyan communities in Barangay Cabacao, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. The AFP’s attacks killed three Mangyan children, injured their mother and forcibly displaced 188 families from the area. Jerlyn Rose Doydora and at least one other student researcher were martyred. Chantal Anicoche Chantal Anicoche, a Filipino community leader from Baltimore who was present in Abra de Ilog at the time of the AFP’s attack, was pronounced missing after the attack. Thanks to the organizing and advocacy of the international community, we have learned that Chantal is currently under custody of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. We demand Chantal’s immediate release. Chantal was a leader in the Filipino American Student Association while she was a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The Philippine government is barring fact-finding teams from investigating the full extent of the human rights violations and fascist terror their military has committed in Abra de Ilog and [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 17:22:53 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27844January 13, 2026 A coalition of groups which have long fought for the release of Mumia Abu-Jamal and other U.S. political prisoners felt compelled to issue the following statement in response to the illegal imprisonment of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores: The Mobilization for Mumia, the Campaign to Bring Mumia Home and the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition (NYC) unequivocally oppose and condemn the Trump regime’s illegal bombing of the Venezuelan capital and kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores from Venezuela. This unprovoked, unilateral military assault on the sovereign nation of Venezuela, without even the pretense of authorization by Congress or the U.S. people, is a violation of the U.S. Constitution and international law. The Trump regime’s latest atrocity has nothing to do with promoting democracy or combatting the flow of illegal drugs into this country and much to do with regaining control of Venezuelan oil reserves and rare minerals for the sole benefit of U.S.-based multinational oil and AI [artificial intelligence] companies. We stand with the Venezuelan people in defense of their national sovereignty and their right to control their own government, economy and resources. We are activists fighting against mass incarceration of poor, oppressed and working-class people. We oppose [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 17:15:02 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27840January 13, 2026 Joachim Guilliard, a German antiwar activist who runs the German blog Nachgetragen and who has contributed to books about West Asia, wrote the following article Jan. 9, 2026, in his continuing coverage of events in the region. Translated by Tlaxcala and revised by Workers World staff, who maintained Guilliard’s notes. The strong wave of protest that spread in Iran at the end of 2025 against economic misery did not come as a surprise. The economic blockades steadily intensified over the course of the year, and the direct military aggression by Israel and the United States in June has significantly exacerbated the country’s economic problems. The embargo Iran faces is as comprehensive and brutal as the one against Cuba. While the country manages to somewhat cushion the effects by expanding trade with Russia, China and its Asian neighbors, the financial losses and supply problems are still considerable. Among other things, they lead to a steady devaluation of the Iranian currency, growing loss of purchasing power and persistently high inflation, which soared to over 50% after the blockades were reinstated by the U.S. president in 2018 and has since averaged 35%. Other domestic crises are also exacerbated by the embargo. Millions of people, [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 17:09:15 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27836By Harvey Markowitz January 16, 2026 Minneapolis Steam billows from atop a coffee mug sustained by cold hands in the frigid passenger’s seat of a hatchback that has weathered many journeys. Nearby on a busy street in south Minneapolis, locals amble about, carrying out their daily sojourns. For now, it is quiet; a waiting game from a parking space, where volunteers monitor passing traffic for their license plates. Massive march in Minneapolis protested the ICE murder of Renee Good. Then, out of the quiet but light suspended action, a known vehicle passes along the road. “That’s them,” says the co-pilot, and the activation of the ignition turns the cold coach into a hot hatchback; the pursuit of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) snatchers has begun. By following the agents with loud, continuous noise from whistles and car horns, ICE attempts to raid immigrants’ homes cannot be conducted with the element of surprise, and the agents are forced to abandon their quarry. Across the broad Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, people are fighting back against what they consider an occupation by a despotic government that appears opposed to their way of life. Left unopposed, the evidence of ICE kidnappings lies apparent in [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 17:01:17 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27832January 16, 2026 Gary Wilson wrote this article, published at struggle-la-lucha.org on Jan. 5. President Nicolás Maduro and his spouse, First Revolutionary Combatant Cilia Flores, prisoners of war in the U.S. since Jan. 3, 2026. This was not a secret operation. It was not done through proxies or deniability. It was an open attack on Venezuela’s right to govern itself. The assault was announced, justified by executive order and defended with raw imperialist arrogance. The goal was not just to remove a president. It was to deny an entire country the right to choose its own political and economic course. Cilia Flores was not taken because she is married to the president. She is a political leader in her own right. Trained as a lawyer, she rose through Venezuela’s institutions and became president of the National Assembly. During periods of intense pressure from the opposition, she was one of the most visible defenders of the Bolivarian Revolution inside the state. After the 2002 coup attempt against Hugo Chávez, she helped keep the legislature functioning. She later served as attorney general and as a senior leader in the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). Flores has long rejected the label “First [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 16:53:37 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27827January 16, 2026 In an audio shared on Jan. 4, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) General Secretary and Minister of Interior Diosdado Cabello urged the party militants not to fall for the enemy’s provocations, following the Jan. 3 attack. Cabello has put the country on alert with a warning that after the kidnapping of President Maduro, the United States is moving to a second stage aimed at dividing the revolutionary movement. Diosdado Cabello Below is the audio message from Diosdado Cabello transcribed and reprinted from Kawsachun News. From our party and from the Great Patriotic Pole, I send you a big hug. Let us not fall into their game. Look, before yesterday’s events, remember the huge campaign that existed to divide the Armed Forces, to divide the revolutionary movement. They have not been able to do it. This first stage failed. They kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro, and now they are going for the second stage. Let no one play into the hands of imperialism. Let no one start spreading rumors. Here, the unity of the revolutionary forces is more than guaranteed, and here there is only one president, whose name is Nicolás Maduro Moros, elected by our people. There is no debate about that [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 16:47:41 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27824By Benny Schaft January 15, 2026 As the new year begins, so has the continued repression by the capitalist state. Against the will of the people, the state has once again unleashed ICE [Immigration Customs Enforcement] thugs to kidnap and murder migrants and even their allies. This was on full display with the state-sanctioned murder of pro-migrant activist Renee Good on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis. This heinous act has already sparked countrywide protests leading to further radicalization amongst the working class. Keith Porter, Jr. But ICE terror is not limited to Latine people. It has also turned its violence towards the Black community as well — and has done so openly and with glee. This has been made clear in countless urban cities across the country. Of course, there are those who claim that ICE is not targeting Black people and that even raising such claims are “dangerous” for the community. The argument is easy to dismantle. The actions of these gestapo-like stormtroopers speak for themselves. Most notably in Chicago, ICE was caught on camera in November when a group of these fascists assaulted a Black resident near Garfield Park. They put him in a chokehold until he passed out [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 16:43:27 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27820January 15, 2026 Communiqué from the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) regarding the armed attack by the United States of America against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela: The Confederation of Sahel States (AES) has followed with grave concern the reports of a military operation carried out by the United States of America on the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which resulted in the illegal abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his spouse [Cilia Flores]. The Confederation of Sahel States (AES) recalls that the use of armed force by one State against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence of another State is an unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign State and constitutes an act of aggression. The AES Confederation, committed to the defense of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, strongly condemns this serious act, which is contrary to international law, in particular the fundamental principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. The AES Confederation denounces the unilateral use of force, deeply regrets this violation of international law, especially by a permanent member of the Security Council, and notes the continuing weakening of the international order with harmful consequences for global stability. Consequently, [...]

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 16:37:27 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27817January 15, 2026 The following is the Revolutionary Government of Cuba’s strong condemnation of the cowardly U.S.A. aggression against Venezuela and its absolute support for that sister nation: The Revolutionary Government strongly condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the military aggression carried out by the United States against Venezuela, while categorically reaffirming Cuba’s absolute support and solidarity with the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its government. Cuba supports the address delivered by the Executive Vice President, Comrade Delcy Rodríguez, and endorses her demand that the Government of the United States provide proof of life of the constitutional President, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and Comrade Cilia Flores, as well as its support for the determination of the Bolivarian and Chavista government and its people to reject the aggression and defend their independence and sovereignty. This cowardly U.S. aggression constitutes a criminal act and a violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. It represents a dangerous escalation of the sustained campaign of war waged for years by the United States against that sister nation, which intensified beginning in September 2025 with the aggressive naval deployment in the Caribbean Sea, under false pretexts and unfounded accusations lacking any evidence. Sat, 17 Jan 2026 16:27:28 +0000https://iacenter.org/?p=27812January 14, 2026 New York City, April 2018 January 19 will officially mark the 40th anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, a demand won through many years of grassroots struggle. If he were alive today, King would have celebrated his 97th birthday on Jan. 15. Dr. King dedicated his entire adult life to fighting for Civil Rights for African Americans, especially in the Deep South during the 1950s and 1960s. And during the last year of his life, King showed concrete support for striking Black sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee, while simultaneously calling for an end to the Vietnam war, a war he characterized as immoral. Linking the struggles against white supremacy, for workers’ rights and against imperialist wars was uppermost on his political agenda of activism. Nothing has fundamentally changed since Dr. King was murdered regarding the domination of imperialism, a system rooted in worldwide capitalism that still exists, although today it is in a much greater stage of decay. President Donald Trump symbolizes this decay with his blatant campaign to whitewash U.S. history by removing references to Black struggles and the legacy of enslavement. Despite this decay, a rapid collapse of the system must not be [...]
