JAK
(1927–1997)
Raymond Allen Jackson aka JAK, was one of Britain’s best-loved newspaper cartoonists, renowned for his long-running work with the Evening Standard from 1952 until his death in 1997. His drawings cast a witty, often irreverent eye over British politics, social quirks, and everyday absurdities. Always rich in detail, his work captured the mood of the nation while giving his characters warmth and personality. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Jak became a fixture of the editorial page and a chronicler of post-war British life, leaving behind a legacy of sharp observation and timeless humour.
