Yasmeen

Been doing some more photoshop painting practice (ppp?) on my favorite face. Great way to learn about colors. I've found that most the individual colors are usually a lot darker, than they look in the picture as a whole.

Back from Comic-Con

Just got back from Comic-Con and Fam reunion in Illinois, back to back. It was my first Comic-Con and it was awesome! Met a bunch of cool guys and made some great connections there as well. I went there on a budget, plus there were no hotels available, so I checked in on the backseat of my good ol' Caddy:) Gotta do what you gotta do right?! As an added bonus, I really got a chance to brush up on my camping skills.

Agnar the Viking

This is a Photoshop painting i did for the upcoming "The Mighty Nomad" gallery in September, where I'll be showing together with some great artists and friends. I'm really looking forward to that.

Being a direct descendant of the Vikings, I thought I'd do a Viking piece in honor of my somewhat violent ancestors:) I'm a native of the Danish city Århus, which together with Ribe is the oldest city in Scandinavia and the oldest Viking city in the world. It was founded by the Vikings in the mid 700's, though without knowing exactly who was the chief of the settlers. I think it was this dude and his name is Agnar, the true founder of Aros (the original form of Århus). Randver Radbardsson was the King of Denmark during the settlement of Aros and the main square of Downtown Århus has been the center of the city for over 1200 years.

Side facts: As some might know, the vikings did not wear horned helmets and they were as excellent tradesmen and explorers as they were warriors. A Vik is a creek or small river, so it was called "To go Viking" when the warriors went raiding.
Also, the Danish flag "Dannebrog" (Danish Cloth) is the oldest state flag in the world still in use, dating back to the 13th Century. Therefor the flag you can see in the background of my painting is not the Dannebrog, but instead the flag used prior to it, called the "Raven Banner". It is depicting a raven which is a symbol of Odin and his all seeing ravens.

Sketchclub: Gandhi Jr.

Shortly after I arrived in L.A. I was fortunate to be invited to sketchclub by my long time blog buddies Marcelo and Armand (check their blogs in my links). It was great to finally meet in person after about 4-5 years of blog friendship. If you're an artist and have not yet started a blog...DO IT NOW!!! It is by far the best way to connect, interact and learn from other artist. You get what you put into it of course. I personally owe John Nevarez a great big thank you, for getting me started on the blog thing about 4 years ago. I'd go as far to say, that about 85-90% of the people I connect with in the business today, is people I've somehow met through blogging.

Ok...that was my bloggydi blog speech, so here's the "mark" that Marcelo picked out at today's sketchclub. He said...:How 'bout Gandhi behind us?...and I think we all agreed.

Maul Brunt Ogre

Busy busy busy trying to get my stuff in front of as many as possible here in CA, so here's a little something to keep my blog fresh. This dude's a Maul Brunt Ogre, captured and controlled by one of the Dark Warlocks. "Dark Warlock" is a term used by the 19 members of "The Cross parallel Highway Montrosh" (the "good" guys).

Half the fun of drawing characters is to come up with their back story. Makes them "real" to me.

The L.A. effect!

Just being here, has made me more productive than ever and I can highly recommend any serious passionate artist to make the pilgrim journey;)........I know that it might be irresponsible of me to say that, but it's in my nature to always follow my dreams, cause I've only (so far) had good experiences doing that;)...knock on wood!

Coming to L.A.

Wow, I really did it! I'm in L.A. now and it sure was a journey. I drove all the way from Tampa Florida 2600 miles in my old '87 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. It was a joy to drive and no problems at all, until the second I park the car at my new address and the radiator blows out and coolant starts leaking out....That was really weird, but I was extremely grateful that it didn't happen while I was in the desert or something. I had a new radiator put in and she's as good as new:)

Oh and here's what I've been doing since my arrival:)

Tom D. 1936

Happy New Year everybody!:)

This will be the year I finally go to California....if I have to walk there on my bare feet, live in a rolled up newspaper in a septic tank, get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I go to bed, eat a lump of cold poison for breakfast, before I go work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill owner for permission to come to work !

Humpback

Heps!!! I'm sure my blog must be the loneliest blog in blogland by now. But in case someone should actually stop by, for good ol' times sake, here's a new post!!! Believe it, or not.

I've been playing around with color and brushes in Photoshop a bit the past year or so, but most the stuff I've worked on I'm not allowed to post....at least not yet. I finally took a little time to work on some of my own and here's a painting I did in PS last night. I enjoyed it a lot and will try and manage my time, so I can get to do some more of my own personal work.

P.S. Used real whale for shape reference and painted on top. Everything else is 100% from scratch, with homemade brushes.
