JOIN THE CAMPAIGN TO DEFEND LOCAL SERVICES
Dear Brother/Sister,
The Coalition government is planning a massacre of our public services. It is estimated that 600,000 public sector jobs are under threat and there is a promised £13.4 billion cut to the education budget.
People on disability and sickness benefits are under threat and the services used by the most vulnerable and poor in society could be closed: day care centres, nurseries, support units.
It is rumoured that In Hackney up to 50% of council jobs could be axed, alongside the closure of a swimming pool and a library.
We do not have to pay for the crisis created by the banks (£1.4 trillion of taxpayers money bailed them out) or by those who do not pay their taxes (£120 billion). We can organise, resist and win. Nursery campaigners have won thousands of pounds of funding and Hackney College workers have fought and won against compulsory redundancies.

Hackney Alliance to defend Public Services – Affiliation motion for trade unions
This branch welcomes the establishment of a public sector/anti cuts alliance on 14 July 2010 through the auspices of the Hackney TUC.
This branch notes:
• The Coalition government is planning a massacre of our public services. It is
estimated that 600,000 public sector jobs are under threat and there is a promised
£13.4 billion cut to the education budget.
• It is rumoured that In Hackney up to 50% of council jobs could be axed, alongside
the closure of a swimming pool and a library.
This branch believes:
• We do not have to pay for the crisis created by the banks (£1.4 trillion of taxpayers
money bailed them out) or by those who do not pay their taxes (£120 billion).
We can organise, resist and win. Nursery campaigners have won thousands of
pounds of funding and Hackney College workers have fought and won against
compulsory redundancies.
• We must do all we can to support fellow public sector workers across Hackney
through building solidarity between trade unions, community group, voluntary
groups and service users.
This branch agrees to provide support in the following ways:
• To Affilate to the Hackney Alliance for Public Services.
• Send a representative to meetings where possible.
• Photocopying of leaflets which support the aims and objectives of our members.
