I Create Universes

 carview.php?tsp=

I have been obsessed lately, making the Universe according to Dawn, LOL. I’ve seen these watercolor galaxy images all over and got a wild hair and thought, “I can do that,” so I broke out my watercolors and some 140lb. watercolor paper and got busy.

Then hours turned into days and days to weeks!! Ahhhhh   carview.php?tsp=  carview.php?tsp=

I am currently working on backgrounds for them so I can release them into the world. I am so excited about these! I think they turned out great! carview.php?tsp=

I’ve kept the first one I finished, of course. For posterity’s sake, hehehe  carview.php?tsp=

Set It Free

 carview.php?tsp=
I made this 4×6″ mixed media art piece for a friend I met on IG and I really love it so much I haven’t sent it to her yet. But this Saturday after I wrap it up nice and tight and cradle it in a first class postage box it will be out of my hands. “If you love something, let it go.”

That is a very powerful thing. To release that which you love. Parents do it with their young, so to an artist does it with their work. Think about your breath. You don’t take in oxygen just to hold it in! You release it and make room for another breath and another and another. As humans we need to have a new found appreciation for not holding on but instead find the beauty in letting it go, for in doing so you make space for more incredible moments to take place.

I’ve been working on something these past few weeks and shortly I will be sharing it with you and then I will be releasing those creations into the world too. It’s so much fun making things and then sharing them with others. Share what you make with others. Not for profit or accolades but for the sheer enjoyment of passing on something that you love so that someone else can love it too.

Have a wonderful rest of your week

XO~

Mandala Monday: Spring!!

 carview.php?tsp=

It is just to beautiful and new to pick much from the garden at the moment so I’m combining a hand drawn mandala and some  flora  to create a spring combo. The forsythia and azalea blooms are perfect colors for this time of year. It was a bit breezy out so after I snapped this photo the wind lifted the flowers and tossed them about so I lifted up my drawing and found this: carview.php?tsp=

I tossed in the lilac bouquet. I had snipped it in hopes of using it in the photo but decided instead of clipping it apart I would take it inside and enjoy it there instead.

Here are the first 3 pages in my April Drawing Assignment:

  • Day 1: dream catcher
  • Day 2: book shelf
  • Day 3: lamp

More to come later. Have a fantastic week and Happy Mandala Monday!!

“You were made to be happy, to spread that happiness to others, and in return receive more happiness… A circle of unbroken joy.”

April Drawing Assignment

I am participating in a drawing challenge that Roxanne from By Bun is hosting. I have changed the name from “challenge” to “assignment” as it suits me better. I’ve also changed the drawing prompts to ones that suit my taste and artistic abilities better. I’ve left some of them the same (I think 4 LOL but changed the rest). Here are mine:

Also, I made a little 5 inch square sketchbook for the occasion and uploaded a video on YouTube if you’re interested in seeing that (it’s not a Tutorial just a minute and a half show and tell).

So there you have it! Have a great weekend. See you Monday!!

New Stamps

carview.php?tsp= Okay, so it’s been awhile since I blogged. I’ve been hanging out on Instagram and loving it but am feeling like I may need my blog to begin sharing about my creative adventures once again.
So lets just start fresh, no need to back track and try and catch you up on stuff you won’t be interested in any way.

These are some new stamps that I ordered from usps.com. Delivered right to my mailbox in about 3 days!

  • The Moon stamps are $1.20 each and are for Post Crossing I love getting international mail!!
  • I adore the Martin Ramírez art stamps and couldn’t find them at my local post office so…..
  • Finally the Year of the Monkey Chinese New Year stamps! My post office sold out right after getting them in and since they are a limited edition stamp each PO is only allowed so many and no more –I wanted these stamps.

Stamps. What’s with sharing this insanely boring photo of stamps?  Well, because I am deeply involved in Mail Art at the moment and will be sharing my adventures here so I thought you might like to know that there exists an entire art exhibit of stamps just waiting for you to notice and procure them! Seek them out, ask your local post office person to haul out the stamp book and flip through it for you and stop on a page that catches your eye and buy those! It’s fun to dress up that corner of an envelope with something other than the sad same old same old everyone is using when you have Choices! Hoorahhhh

Ok– more later but for now I leave you with a spring time postcard sent to someone in New York, until next time if you read this please share a comment (whatever popped into your head as you were reading, maybe a question or an observation or a statement– whatever just share). I would like for this blog to be Interactive not just me rambling and show and telling but you as the reader filling in the blanks with your thoughts too.  Thanks!

Mandala Monday: stars in my eyes

Gathering Stars Mandala

A house wren shared it’s JoY with me this morning,
trilling from deep in its chest
at the tippy top of a purple plum tree.

Then a mystical bird song from deeper in the woods
–one I’ve not been privileged to before–
reminded me of the haunting flutes
from the plains of the West.

Magic appears when you become still enough
to be with it.

Gathering Stars Mandala/2

As I walked to the mail box I saw 3 scattered pieces of Oak branches, only six or so inches in length. They caught my attention only briefly but as I continued on, they played out their meaning in my mind. When I walked back I picked them up and searched out two more companion pieces. I knew they would be the star in the center of this weeks mandala. It was a beautiful albeit windy day so I made the mandala in the garage, trotting back and forth into the woods and the yard in search of supporting materials for my design.
It’s funny how they come into being. A simple walk to the mailbox birthed Gathering Stars Mandala.
Happy Mandala Monday!!

Mandala Monday: for all my hommies who’ve missed these

The Autumn season is flitting past faster and faster these days. It won’t be long till we are in the grasp of Winter. My bones don’t like the cold and I don’t venture out much in the cold air to make these natural mandalas so soon I will be dazzling you with ones from my pen and paintbrush. In the meantime here is the latest one and some you might have missed unless you follow me on Instagram or have me as a Flickr friend.

Mandala Monday: Woodland Mandala

Woodland Mandala
I started with the one big pinecone and four semi-dry yellow maple leaves. The rest came together from bits and pieces from the ground. Not one freshly picked thing in this mandala — all discarded elements, and look how ruggedly beautiful that can be.

Along with making mandalas I have been busy on the Bee Lover’s Blanket. Adding honeycomb rounds by leaps and bounds!
The beginning/Bee Lovers Blanket

The next round may take me awhile as it has 24 honeycombs in it. I’ve got 8 done so far 😉

I also placed an order from House of Good Juju : it’s really quite wonderful stuff. These candles burn amazingly well and they smell good and have lots of little goodies floating on top.  And the room/pillow spray–mm mm good!

Well, beautiful people, I hope you have a terrific start to the week. May the light that greets the day meet the light that shines through you and light the world on fire!
Peace~

Mandala Monday: Autumnal Equinox

First things first, Thank You ALL for your heartfelt embrace for the passing of my dog, Winston. I appreciate all the love and positive vibrations you all sent up for us.

Now is the time to embrace the Autumnal Equinox –the time when night and day shake hands and share equally in their possession of the earth. Tomorrow we will awaken and the light will begin to withdraw from us earlier and earlier leaving the door open for winter to step in and encircle us.
Autumnal Equinox Mandala

My Mandala this week is full of the beginning colors of Autumn in these parts. Red is always the first to begin the season of vibrant color and my favorite offering is the candy red seeds of the Magnolia tree. They ring the inside of the mandala all brilliant and shiny! how can you not love them! plus, if you squeeze them they give off a fragrance all their own, sweet and reminiscent of the flowers that they give birth too in the summer. Seed heads from my crop of echinacea and red and green leaves from the Sumac plants that line the edge of the woods, add texture and dimension . I threw in a few mums from my newly planted pots. Making a little room on each plant for more vibrant buds to grow.
Autumnal Equinox Mandala/2

Lets part with a poem by Sara Teasdale called September Midnight:

Lyric night of the lingering Indian Summer,
Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singing,
Never a bird, but the passionless chant of insects,
Ceaseless, insistent.

The grasshopper’s horn, and far-off, high in the maples,
The wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silence
Under a moon waning and worn, broken,
Tired with summer.

Let me remember you, voices of little insects,
Weeds in the moonlight, fields that are tangled with asters,
Let me remember, soon will the winter be on us,
Snow-hushed and heavy.

Over my soul murmur your mute benediction,
While I gaze, O fields that rest after harvest,
As those who part look long in the eyes they lean to,
Lest they forget them.

Happy Mandala Monday!! Enjoy your week 🙂

(not so) Wordless Wednesday: Passing On

Winston

Yesterday we said good-bye to a cherished member of our family. He had been giving it his all for a few month now and it just got to the point where it was harder to watch him than it was to let him go. It is a difficult decision to release them when they have settled themselves so deeply into your heart. Bye, Winston we are gonna miss that face so much—–
