this website
This website has a three-fold purpose: to form a narrative from my family history research; to make available records that I have accumulated (cemetery listings, vital records, etc.) that may be helpful to others; and to provide another place for my stuff. I do digress.
me
As a sixth generation Texan, I was raised with a peculiar form of ancestor worship. It is a combination of love of family, compulsive storytelling and a reverence for Texas history. For 16 years I have attempted to track down facts to support the stories and have found that, for the most part, the stories are true. Support your local library.
when i digress
birds, bees, flowers, trees: a big ol’ nature girl
seeing and capturing the light: photography, visual arts, mapping, dreaming
waves and the unseen: music, physics, water, lunar madness, mysteries of the universe

Love your blog!
Although living in Idaho now, we lived in Fort Worth for two years. I worked in Dallas at Adventure Tours and that was my favorite job ever!
I have a family obituary that states as follows: “Relatives in Winona (Minnestoa) have just received word of the death of A. R. Bruce, husband of Mrs. Catherine Parsons Bruce, of Victoria Ranch, Texas.”
I cannot for the life of me find anything on Victoria Ranch, Texas. Have you ever heard of it?
Thanks.
Liz
Liz,
Thanks! I was born in Fort Worth and lived there many years. I love cowtown. You had quite a commute didn’t you?
I haven’t heard of Victoria Ranch. There is a town called Victoria, the seat of Victoria County, near the coast. I think Victoria Ranch must refer to a ranch rather than a town, but where?
Unfortunately there are a lot of Bruces here too. Is this a recent obit? Anywho.com lists two Catherine Bruces, one in the San Antonio area and one in Houston.
Are there any other clues in the article?
Hello gen6tex,
I’m totally enjoying your blog!
(And thank you for commenting on mine!)
I like your idea of ‘Wordless Wednesday’; may I borrow it?
I love the picture at the top of your blog.
It reminds me of areas near my hometown Binghamton in upstate New York.
Peace,

Thanks! I love your site, I dig old photos. I tinkered with Photoshop a few times but never got the hang of layers. I think it is too complicated for me.
I wish I could take credit for WW but I found it at https://www.wordlesswednesday.com. Check it out.
The banner is a photo I took in Jemez Springs NM 3 or 4 years ago. I have very few winter snaps.
What a beautiful website!
The minute I read Victoria Ranch I wondered if they meant the King Ranch near Victoria, Texas. I grew up in that area and can’t imagine another ranch that might have been in Victoria. The King Ranch is huge not leaving much room for another.
Maybe this helps.
Good luck.
Susan
