From outer Space is a transdisciplinary practice led by Anna Paola Buonanno and Piergiorgio Italiano, geared to exploring economic, social and environmental dynamics through spatial design. From outer Space makes interiors, installations, objects and interfaces, within the physical and digital environments, handling languages and tools borrowed from architecture, design and visual arts.
Through reading the context, overwriting it, and developing strategies for the reduction or reuse of resources, the practice aims to establish new layers of knowledge to understand contemporary society.
From outer Space won First Prize in the international ReCall competition, and has exhibited its own work at the WUHO Gallery (Los Angeles), Felleshus (Berlin), M4gastatelier (Amsterdam), Falstadsenteret (Ekne, Norway), Camp Design Gallery, DOCVA/Viafarini, F / A FakeAuthentic, Peep-Hole, Subalterno1, Supersalone (Milan) and Fahrenheit39 (Ravenna). The studio has also collaborated with Bulthaup Italia, Icon Panorama, IFI Spa, Leroy Merlin, Mousse Publishing, Milan Polytechnic University and Salone del Mobile.Milano, amongst others. The exhibition design for “Albe. Luci di domani” has been included in ADI DESIGN INDEX 2024, the yearly selection for the Compasso d’Oro which involves the best Italian design. Anna Paola Buonanno and Piergiorgio Italiano teach at IED Turin, NABA Milan and Rome; they have also taught and lectured at Politecnico di Milano, IAAD Bologna and Domus Academy.
