I seem to suddenly be swallowed up by all the millions of little school-related details (all involving money) that fall brings. Dusty went to school with cookies for Girl Scouts so they could celebrate Juliette Lowe’s birthday. And money for tickets to Wicked. And the stuff she did to earn her State Fair patch.
I made lunches last night and then forgot that today is the holiest of days: GRILLED CHEESE DAY! OMG! So, I hope everything will still taste okay tomorrow because I really don’t want to have to throw those sandwiches away due to my own lack of memory. Sigh.
This will be Red’s first time buying lunch in the cafeteria. Hope it went well. She refuses to memorize her lunch number (they have to punch it in themselves) so I sent a note to her teacher explaining that Red will need a little assistance. Any number of things could go wrong but I will simply have to trust that everyone made sure Red got lunch. And juice (she was insistent on that). Then, Dusty informed me that her lunch balance is almost gone. Lovely. So, there’s another check I need to write. Only for both kids. All that money I put on their accounts at the beginning of the year has been spent on weekly ice cream.
All the third graders will be having a Greek/Roman party on Friday to finish off their unit on those ancient cultures (and isn’t next month’s National Geographic timely? Yes. Cat Mummies!). $2 plus some food item. I’m sending in 10 grape juice boxes because nothing says Bacchanalia! like juice boxes and pizza (which is what the $2 is for).
And then the nuts arrive. So, I will be distributing those and collecting checks.
Oh, and I’m also trying to figure out what to get Dusty for her birthday. She is getting a real (hopefully, working) sewing machine from my mother so I might go to the crafts store and pick up some fabric squares and a sewing box to keep everything in. I wish she had room for a table in her room but she does not. Also on the list: Rubiks Cube, silkscreening kit, a bracelet braiding kit, and books. Many books. I’ve already bought her the game Clue. So, I’ve got some ordering to do post haste.
It is chilly and rainy today and I’d rather be in front of a fire reading Sense and Sensibility and Zombies. I promised Harriet I’d post a picture of a recent fire in my fireplace so here it is:
