It was a whirlwind weekend! So much got done. Many, many dishes were washed. The weekend in bullets:
1. In the kitchen, the following was cooked, baked or otherwise prepared: red velvet cupcakes, zucchini bread (two loaves), two batches of pesto, mashed potatoes, BBQ tofu, a cabbage slaw/salad, macaroni and cheese.
2. Dusty, Red and I sorted through 90% of the toys and detritus in the tv room and living room. A trunk load of stuff went to Goodwill. A trash bag and a half of stuff was thrown away. Playmobil things were sorted from Barbie things and Lego things (two sizes) and Trex things and other things that aren’t one of those categories. Red found 71 Squinkies. She reunited all the Littlest Pet Shop critters.
3. Sofa #2 arrived in the middle of all the sorting. Here it is. It’s large and deep and very comfortable. Both children asked – nay, BEGGED – to sleep on it tonight. I had to disappoint them.
You can see one of the piles of toys at the bottom of the picture. I moved the tv room rug to the living room.
4. I was able to finish with the living room. Well, I haven’t put back stuff on the mantle but, the rest of it’s there.
The footstools have storage and the miscellaneous stuff is in them – musical instruments and other things.
5. We had spontaneous company at this point and because I had wisely bought two bottles of wine at the Monger, I was able to share one with a friend. The cleaning was called to a halt for the day.
6. A pizza was ordered, picked up, and eaten.
7. When Red went to bed, Dusty and I watched Men in Black. She turned to me, half-way through it, and asked, “How come we don’t own these?” Good question.
8. On Sunday, we cleaned some more and went to see the new Wimpy Kid movie. We stopped at Target for this and that. Dusty got school supplies. Both kids got shoes. I got a new rug for the tv room. Red got a hula hoop. She’d used one at camp last week and discovered a new talent.
Here she is in the middle of doing 114 consecutive rotations. I counted. And, no, there was no misplaced decimal point in that count.
9. We watched quite a bit of Olympics coverage. Dusty is a Usain Bolt fan. I made them sort bits of toy parts at the bottom of bins and boxes while they sat in front of the tv. Because there must be payment for all the fun and treats! They must work! We finally got it all done.
10. And then, lunches were made and the pig cage cleaned, baths were had as we prepared for another week. This week, they’re attending an arts and music camp where our spontaneous playdate friend (mine) is teaching the art half and the elementary school’s music teacher is handling the other. It’s always a good time.
11. I did visit the garden – briefly – to pick vegetables and basil. The weeds are starting to take over and need some attention. That might be next weekend’s chore. I need to rest up now.
