About

About Frank Prem

For well over forty years, I’ve been a storyteller — weaving life’s quiet moments into poetry that speaks softly but carries weight.

In my professional career I worked as a psychiatric nurse, a role that deepened my understanding of the human experience and developed my sense of empathy, which has featured strongly in my writing.

My poems have appeared in magazines, anthologies, and online platforms in Australia and internationally. Since 2018, I’ve published more than 30 collections of poetry — including memoir, spoken word, collaborations, and speculative works — exploring themes from small-town life to mental health, history, and imagination.

Notable early works include Small Town Kid (2018), Devil In The Wind (2019), and Herja, Devastation (2019), a poetic–prose collaboration with author Cage Dunn. My 2019 memoir, and The New Asylum, draws on four decades working in the psychiatric field.

I live in the picturesque township of Beechworth, northeast Victoria, with my wife — a place that inspires much of my work’s atmosphere.
