No longer using .dat files as of Jan 02, 2019
Plugin won't work on any version if it can't download geo data.
To reproduce, just install and try to activate it. You'll get a warning
The plugin has not been enabled.
GeoIP Country database not found. Download the GeoLite Country DB in binary format from here: https://dev.maxmind.com/geoip/legacy/geolite/ and then upload the GeoIP.dat file to the folder: /home/tijcollab/public_html/b2e7/plugins/geoip_plugin. Click here for automatic download.
Go there and get this warning
GeoLite Legacy databases were discontinued on January 2, 2019. Learn more.
And any file you download will be zip/tar containing csv files, no .dat

The URL is not available. It may correspond to an old version of the GeoIP.dat file.
Still getting this error in 6.10.6 version.

I guess there will never be a release under this link (https://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoLiteCountry/GeoIP.dat.gz).

Yes, the fixed b2evolution plugin has not been released yet.
We have fixed this already somewhere. Will pop up soon.
