Congratulations to our client Julia* on winning asylum!
After a harrowing journey from Venezuela and five months in immigration detention, Julia finally feels like she can be well. She can finally “eat and sleep, just live like a normal person,” she says. She no longer has to fear the dangers she fled in her home country or endure inhumane conditions in immigration detention because she has won asylum with the support of her pro bono attorney, Jeffrey Eisenberg, and Florence Project Pro Bono Mentor, Jo Lopez.
Julia recalls the moment the judge granted her asylum, “[my attorneys and I] hugged. It was such a powerful moment to finally get this good news.”
Now, she is reunited with a friend and adapting to life in the U.S. She is practicing her English and

learning how to drive while she awaits her work permit. After that, she plans to apply for legal permanent residency, and eventually, she dreams of working in a hospital or clinic, helping vulnerable
populations– something she is truly passionate about.
She thanks her Florence Project attorney saying, “I could feel that Jo was an excellent person. I could feel her empathy towards me.”
We extend that gratitude to you, our supporters, for making these moments possible.
