Fandom related things

Hello again!

I am very excited at the minute because everything is going on, in the Fandomverse! In case the last word in that sentence looked like some sort of cake induced babble, I shall explain to you, the Fandomverse:

If you are particularly fond of a TV show/band/movie/book  (silently ticking them in my head), then you are called a fan. You a part of a fandom, which in itself is part of the almighty, Fandomverse.

Currently, everyone in the Fandomverse ( I wonder how many times that word has been used in this post) is hyped up because of:

1) 50th anniversary of Doctor Who!!!!!!

2) Hopefully season three of Sherlock!!!

3) The second Hunger Games movie – Catching Fire!!! (It won’t be as good as the books but it will still be pretty awesome).

4) Thor 2 – The Dark World, is out!!! My friend has already watched this and I am immensely jealous of her!

5) Supernatural Season 9 (already seen the first 2 episodes and I highly recommend it to everyone!)!!!

There is much to dance about!

Lots of love, Owl x

A post for the Interweb!

Hello fine people of the internet! How are you doing?

I would just like to apologise profusely at not blogging forever and ages. I have only one excuse for this, and it is the fact that I am rubbish. This blog has ended up in the same state as my many diaries – I write regularly and with enthusiasm for a while and then I don’t make another entry until after the zombie apocalypse. I now see the flaw in this (already flawed) method, is the fact that:

A) I’m not sure we’ll have electricity after the zombie apocalypse,

and

B) I may be part of the defeated undead horde by that time.

I think it is quite amusing that people keep saying how prepared everyone is for a zombie apocalypse because, people are prepared, just not very well prepared. Apart from the small amount of people who live in small iron rooms deep underground with only themselves and 10 billion cans of baked beans to keep them company, waiting until they can re-emerge into a world were they will be free of zombies and other people!

Fortunately, I am slightly skeptical about the zombie apocalypse so I don’t think there’s anything much to worry about. “Ha” you say, “We will remind you of your skepticism when you are being chased by the hungry hordes of undead, and we will flick grapes at you and laugh.”

For now, I will sit here and drink tea out of my excellently large mug.

Stand Up For The Planet!!!

Hello!

I just want to start off by saying, I hope you all had a good Christmas and ate lots of yummy things. I certainly fulfilled that criteria.

Now I shall come to my more serious (ish) bit. You know that thing that happens just before you’re about to go to sleep where you think of 10 thousand brilliant things you need to do or write and you think, Yes, I shall do that in the morning, and then you wake up the next morning and do nothing. Well, this happens to me a lot…. Lately, I have been thinking that I should try and actively try and encourage people to save the planet. It is a super important thing we need to do. Just before I start, I would like to say, I am not perfect at all, I still pollute my fair share but I would like this to change and if we wait till someone is perfect, there probably wont be much planet left to mend.

We are killing the Earth. In my opinion, lots of people and businesses don’t think about the impact they are going to have before they do something.  We don’t respect the land or the animals that live on it. According to the National Geographic website, swathes of forest and rainforest the size of Panama are lost to deforestation each year! We need to start looking after our planet URGENTLY. We are melting the polar ice caps and killing hundreds of animals because we have taken away their homes.

We need to start treating animals better as well as our planet. Organic meat is great and if you buy it, it has to have met this criteria (taken from the Soil Association website).

Organic farm animals:

  • Must have access to fields (when weather and ground conditions permit) and are truly free range
  • Must have plenty of space – which helps to reduce stress and disease
  • Must be fed a diet that is as natural as possible and free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
  • Must only be given drugs to treat an illness – the routine use of antibioticsis prohibited
  • Cannot be given hormones which make them grow more quickly or make them more productive
  • Must not be produced from cloned animals

I don’t think you should be able to buy any other meat that isn’t organic because all animals deserve to be treated like this or better. Battery farming chickens only became illegal a few years ago in the UK, but I think it should have been outlawed a long time before that because the way battery farmed chickens were treated was despicable! They were fed drugs to make them fatter, quicker and they were kept in barns and never let out. The chickens were crammed in so closely, they hardly had room to move their wings. Our friends bought some live chickens from a battery farm, to rescue them and their chickens had half their feathers missing because they were treated so badly. This should never ever be the case! Just because humans are more advanced, in some ways, than other species, that does not give us the right to treat animals horribly. Animals don’t have police to stick up for them or to arrest the humans that tortured them.

We are melting our planet with global warming and ripping enormous holes in the Ozone layer. The Ozone layer is a thin  layer of Earth’s atmosphere that protects us from ultra violet rays from the sun. If we don’t change and become more eco-friendly, then we will kill the planet and everything on it. The Earth’s not going to end because the Mayans stopped their calendar, but it will end if we don’t pull our act together… We don’t have the excuse of ignorance because we know exactly what’s happening to the Earth so it’s time to do something NOW!!! We are emitting too much Carbon Dioxide (CO2) into the air and this is causing the earth to heat up – plants and trees taken in CO2 and emit oxygen but we are ripping them down and building ugly housing estates that will stay half empty.

We can help save our planet and our wildlife by:

  • Buying organic or free range produce
  • Buying food that’s grown in Britain (or where ever you live). This will mean that airplanes aren’t polluting our air as much.
  • Grow more plants.
  • Fight for the trees
  • Turn off your lights when you don’t need them (something I need to work on).
  • Switch off appliances at the socket when you aren’t using them. Just because appliances say, Standing By, they are still using electricity.
  • Swap your ordinary light bulbs for energy saving light bulbs. You can find them almost everywhere.
  • Recycle and Upcycle. Upcycling is like recycling but you can do it yourself. For example, I turned a t-shirt that was too small for me, into a scarf.
  • If you have space, think about getting chickens or other livestock. It’s economical and eco-friendly!
  • Campaigning to save the forests
  • Donating money to organizations such as WWF and The Prince’s Rainforest Trust.
  • Write to businesses and MP’s about things you think need changing
  • Write naggy blog posts like this one
  • Walk or bike short journeys instead of using the car
  • Wear fake fur not real fur
  • Tell others what is happening and how to prevent it
  • If you have a baby, use terry-cloth nappies instead of disposable ones and buy organic baby food
  • Get milk in glass bottles instead of plastic ones
  • Encourage people to buy old houses and do them up instead of moving into newly built ones. We have plenty of houses just sitting there so we don’t need to rip up big patches of land to build new houses.

These are just a small percentage of simple things you can do to start off the process of rescuing the planet. I am sorry this is so long and a bit shouty but I feel this is an important topic and we should do something about it. It needs discussing. I hope I have made an impression. Thank you for reading.

Books, books and a bit of cake….

Hello Bloggers/Blog readers/Awesome people,

I have just finished reading a book called Loser by Jerry Spinelli. He writes beautiful, emotional books and the ones I have read are about being different. Star Girl, also by Jerry Spinelli, is amazing and makes you look at the world in different ways. It made me cry because I’m soppy, but I definitely recommend both books!!

The other books I’ve been reading at the moment are the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich which are super exciting! Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter who lives in Jersey with her hamster Rex. I think there are 18 books and I need to order the 11th one. They a funny and sometimes sad but Stephanie’s life is VERY entertaining!!!

I’m writing this whilst eating so Ryvita which isn’t cake but we can pretend….

Mystical Olympics

Hello Bloggers,

Hope you enjoyed the Olympics! I am not a very sporty person and I don’t really like watching sport either but if you add some more interesting characters and events to the Olympics then I would definitely come and watch!!

For Boxing we have:

carview.php?tsp=

Batman in the uuummm Black corner! All the way from Gotham City!

And

carview.php?tsp=

Angel also in the Black corner ( they should really try some new colours!).
He’s just flown in from LA.

It’s going to be a rough fight and they both have skills! Angel has the advantage  of being  a vampire ( a good one though ) but Bruce Wayne… Oops, I mean Batman, has been trained by the best and he has lots of gadgets.

Okay, the next Mystical Olympic event will be Flying! The contestants will get points for their routines and for their taking off and landing skills.

carview.php?tsp=

You know and love him… Yes it’s Harry Potter!! Now that Voldemort’s gone he can use his free time to become a top Quidittich player!

And

carview.php?tsp=

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell are hoping to take a gold medal back to Neverland with their shining routine!

Peter Pan may have the upper hand as he’s lighter (no offense Harry but he’s like 12 so it’s the truth) but Potter has proved his skill before by dodging a Hungarian Horntail on his broom ….

Next up we have the Running and we have some contestants who have been training very very hard!

carview.php?tsp=

Lola Bunny….. Okay I know she’s in a movie about basketball but she’s a rabbit which means she can run fast. Probably.

And

carview.php?tsp=

Road Runner’s here! We know he can beat Wily Coyote but can he keep up with Lola Bunny’s bouncing strides?

Lola is all warmed up as she has just come of the set of Space Jam but so is Road Runner; Wily Coyote is always hungry ! Beep beep…..

For our second to last event, we have Elemental Magic! Earth, Air, Wind and Fire are going to be manipulated to build a castle and each will be judged. Basically, this one is a bit like a sandcastle competition.

carview.php?tsp=

Here is Valkyrie Cain (AKA Stephanie Edgley) and her mentor and all round awesome skeleton detective, Skulduggery Pleasant. They managed to get a ferry over from Ireland so they will be competing in this year’s games!

And

carview.php?tsp=

Here we have Aang the Airbender but since he can only do the wind bit of the challenge he has bought his whole crew….

The Avatar gang have the advantage of numbers however Skulduggery and Valkyrie have other magic too. Valkyrie is an skilled necromancer and Skulduggery, as I have mentioned before, is just plain awesome! Lets see how this pans out.

Finally,we have the riding pageant thingymajig!!

carview.php?tsp=

Here is the Dude from Eragon and his dragon. Since this is the last event we will be expecting something good. And they get disqualified if they eat the opposition…

     And

carview.php?tsp=

Here we’ve got Pegasus and Hercules. Pegasus is fab-mazing, Hercules, not so much…. He’s a bit annoying, I prefer Megara but she was on holiday.

Well, there’s not much to say about the riding. They ride the animals over rainbows and stuff!

So, that’s the end of the Mystical games… Almost! You get to leave comments and say who you want to win; the person in each category with the most votes wins!!!

I hope you enjoyed the games and don’t forget to buy the Tee-shirt.

What To Wear?….

Hello,

Today I promised I would let my friend show me her entire wardrobe and I thought I would share it with you! My friend thought this was a great idea and agreed to model all her clothes so we could make this post….

This is my friend Julia:

carview.php?tsp=

So, lets get started with this fashion show then!!!

carview.php?tsp=

This is Julia’s typical look for a Monday.
Sophisticated, cute and the kind of yellow that’s the colour of that stain on your table cloth.

carview.php?tsp=

This is Julia’s ABBA mixed with classy party dress.
Good for Saturday nights and ABBA related things ( of which I’m sure there are many).
Not too good for puddles though!

carview.php?tsp=

If you are going on a trip to Spain and want to look fab-mazing then you should borrow Julia’s great polka-dot flamenco dress
which is brill for the beach. However you could always turn it Country with a cool cowboy hat and a piece of straw…

carview.php?tsp=

If your life-long dream was to be an air hostess but you never found the perfect dress for serving disgusting food on an airplane then look no further!!!
Julia is giving her stylish, hot pink, skirt suit away. If you have a 3 cm waist, are 2-d and 2 inches tall then the dress is yours!!

carview.php?tsp=

Julia is looking good in leather trousers and a puffy almost Elizabethan style shirt.
What more could you want?!!
The blackness of the trousers is an added bonus as pasta sauce wont show up!!!

I hope you found this very educational. Julia is clearly born to be a trend-setter. Next time I leave the house, I wouldn’t be surprised if we had one more air-hostess in the world and a lot more people wearing canary-yellow suits and leather trousers!

Lots of love,

Owl xx ( and Julia)

Tasty!

Sorry I didn’t manage to blog yesterday but I was worn out! A brief summary of our doings is typed here:

We got a Krispy Creme Donut from the train station then went on a Duck Tour around London…. Duck tours are were you get taken on an expedition round the most  interesting bits of London ( in this case however we did go on a Duck tour in Seattle which was cool ) in these special cars from WWII that can drive on the roads and on water!!  Speaking of war, we went to the Imperial War Museum and that was fascinating as they had exhibits about all kinds of stuff on such as, The Blitz, The Holocaust, Evacuees and much more. The Holocaust exhibition was sad but we should definitely learn from this! After all this we were starving, so we caught the tube and found a lovely Turkish restaurant where I ate a lot of fried Halloumi which is a type of cheese that doesn’t melt when you cook it and it’s lovely and salty along with some calamari and some chicken shish… Yummy!

Sorry about that; that  wasn’t really very, brief was it? Never mind. Today we went to this place called the Wellcome Institute (don’t worry, I can spell, that’s it’s name) which is this sciencey place and they had an exhibition on about brains, which is a bit gruesome but still cool. They have a bit about medicine upstairs as well, along with a collection of stuff like death masks and prosthetic limbs, shrunken heads and tooth necklaces! I highly recommend it.

Tallulah and Oscar got fluffy germ toys, which they picked themselves, as a treat from the Wellcome Institute. We managed to drop Tallulah’s in a puddle on the way home which was quite amusing, so it’s currently drying out on the kitchen table. Anyway, after the Wellcome Institute, we made our way over to Selfridges but made a pit stop on the way to an amazing chocolate shop on Marylebone High street called Rococo Chocolates and because I hadn’t gotten a stuffed germ in the gift shop as I decided I had enough stuff, Mum let me have ten little chocolates instead…. Hooray! They were luxurious; I had some ordinary flavours but I also picked some weird ones too like the geranium one. Then we stopped at a book shop called Daunt Books that is beautiful and looks a bit like a library.

Finally, we meandered into Selfridges (tis big department store) and got the mug Mummy wanted. As we were walking up to the doors we encountered a small brass band marching along the makeup  floor and followed shortly after by an impressive on man band! we also saw some plastic Corgis wearing crowns and headscarves and some brightly coloured plastic pigeons sporting very fine top hats…

Next, we stopped at a cute little cafe for refreshments and because I am a great sister, I fulfilled my sisterly duties and drank Oscar and Tallulah’s hot chocolates as they claimed they were full. Ha ha! Then we got on the next bus we saw and rode all the way until it got to the end of it’s route and got on another bus taking us back the way we had just come. After that we just walked around for ages exploring whilst looking for the right bus to take us home. Unfortunately that bus drove past us so we had to catch the next one. I would really recommend just getting on a random bus because it’s really fun.

If you have been to London before you will know how awesome it is, and if you haven’t, well, you should because you will undoubtedly love it. Just before I go I must tell you about a book I started after I finished the Deathly Hallows. It’s called Into The Woods and it was fabulous; I have finished it now and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was based around the Pied Piper but bits of other fairy tales were woven into the story. You may think it’s soppy because it uses fairy tales but Into The Woods is really thrilling and fun to read. It’s about three sisters and this magical pipe which is desperately being hunted by the malicious baddy…

Well, I have to go to bed now, but in the meanwhile, Keep calm and carry on! 🙂

London and it’s many rainy attractions…

We have come to London for half-term and despite the grizzly weather it has been really fun!

We are not here to see the Queen, in fact Mum is trying to avoid most of the crowds but we’re having a good time anyway. We have been to the Great British Library and Coram Fields which is this really cool park thing where you can only go in if you are with a kid, and they have a zip wire and big playgrounds. Also, in the summer, they have a shallow pool filled with water with little things  that spurt water….. We like fountains. If the weather gets better, Mum is going to take us to this amazing fountain on the South Bank which is concentric squares which shoot water up at different times and even though it’s freezing. I like the South Bank, they have a Wagamamas and normally there is cool things going on along the side so it is well worth visiting!

In the day, we went to this place called Highgate Cemetery and because no one else was stupid enough to go out in the pouring rain we got the tour guide all to ourselves and he was so good!!! It was really interesting and it turns out that he was in the Guinness Book of World Records for going round the globe in a double-decker and for driving a double decker on only two wheels! Also the cemetery itself was really intense and cool; we saw this little grave and apparently it belonged to this man who was this massive criminal mastermind of the Victorian Ages but he didn’t believe in violence so he was just this really clever con-man who befriended these super rich people and then robbed them without them ever knowing! He was never caught because even though all the police suspected him, they could never catch him in the act!! This was the guy James Moriarty was based on ( Moriarty is Sherlock Holmes’s arch-nemesis). There is an amazing Sherlock Holmes programme on every year and they do a few episodes but it has Benedict Cumberbatch in and he is a great actor along with Martin Freeman A.K.A Watson.

Tonight, we went and saw this poet called John Hegley who does quite comedic poems and he was fab-mazing! He signed some books for us and read some brilliant poems/songs…….. It’s really late now so I better go to bed other wise I will resemble a zombie tomorrow morning!

Love Owl

P.s If you are going to Kings Cross in London, be sure to look out for Platform Nine and Three quarters from Harry Potter! They have got a Hogwarts trolley going through the wall we all had our pictures taken with it! 🙂

Book time! Hooray

Hello! Thank you for all your lovely comments by the way….

I have been meaning to read the Harry Potter books for ages! I have listened to all the CD’s/tapes and watched all the films but reading the books is the best thing to do really. I am on the last book now, The Deathly Hallows and it’s great but my favourite is the Prisoner of Azkaban. Anyone who hasn’t read them really needs to!

I have also just finished reading an amazing, emotional book called Wonder by R.J Palacio about a boy called August who was born with a deformed face and it is about him starting school however each part of the book is from someone in his family or their friends view point and it’s an absolutely inspiring! I think we are surrounded by amazing books and literature but no one thinks that they will enjoy them more than an Xbox or a film but they’re wrong because some books are just brilliant. It’s great the way that they make their own worlds and people and that you make friends (or enemies) with them along the way.

Oh the Irony!!

You know, it is very rare for England to have sunny weather and now that we do, I have a doomy and horrible cold along with the rest of my family. Plus I have lots of tests at the minute which is rubbish. Right. My moaning is over with, sorry about that!

Derek ( an amazingly cute kitten who’s favourite foods consist of parma ham, baked beans, fish and raspberries ) is going mental because she’s not aloud outside at the moment because we have to re-Derek proof it, so she doesn’t escape. She is squeaking at all the birds and persuading them to come closer to the window, but mostly they just ignore her! Also, Derek is chewing the leaves off of my chili plants and then spitting them out all over the floor in protest.

Because of the recent hotness we opened the windows in the house. Derek realized this as she was uprooting one of my chili plants in the bathroom and when she poked her head out the window, she noticed an extremely rotund pigeon and decided she liked it very much ( even though her hunting skills are at the worm licking stage) and she started climbing onto the roof!!! At this point you could just see her back end poking through the foliage and we then had to haul Derek back in before she fell off.

Derek is indeed an amazing puddy cat, in the words of Tweety bird!
