It feels like it was just the other day she was a tiny little fluff ball, running and pouncing around the house in a way only a spunky little kitten can. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1217/785927184_60f64f50cf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1217/785927184_60f64f50cf.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Nowadays you're more likely to find her sunning herself in a warm sunbeam or passed out cold, belly up in the air, with her arms stretched out over her head. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3553/3769759844_e4cbf8da77.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="162" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3553/3769759844_e4cbf8da77.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">She still has her spunk though, which is evidenced by her zoomie fueled chases of the other kitties, when I swear it sounds as if I have a heard of elephants stampeding through the house. But more than anything she has turned out to be the sweetest, most docile, happy cats with a kind soul that I've had the pleasure of sharing my life with. Happy Birthday Sweet Bella! And to many more!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
I have to apologize for my lack of posts the last few months, things have been crazy, hectic, busy, and well I allowed my blogging to fall by the wayside and I am here to say I am back! Life gets a little bit crazy for everyone, but that's no excuse for my lack of posting so I have made a new commitment to get back to my regular postings of sharing the cute, funny, silly and just plain craziness my pack of furballs brings to everyday life around here.<br />
<br />
And to make amends to the 2 readers I have (and I am sure one of them is my mom!) I have decided to do a little giveaway. So keep your eyes peeled for that in the coming week and spread the word!<br />
<br />

</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/2883560332_f20586d896.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/2883560332_f20586d896.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">And wouldn't you know it, he won!!! He won a new Halloween themed collar from <a href="https://www.furrytwang.com/">Furry Twang</a>!!! Not long after I found out he won, the new collar arrived in the mail, and you know what this meant...photoshoot!!<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3480/4056706779_653e034a86.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3480/4056706779_653e034a86.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Yes, you are reading that right, his new collar says, "Trick or Treat I Lick Feet," and it is just perfect for him!<br />
<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2537/4057410086_84a01b8efa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2537/4057410086_84a01b8efa.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
(And if you haven't already, you need to check out Furry Twang's site to see all their wonderfully hilarious southern sayings inspired dog gear! I am definitely seeing an "I eat grits" collar in Red's future! Haha!)<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">It appears though that Red, always the comedian, took his new collar's wise words to heart, and quite literally.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The poor guy suffers from seasonal allergies where he licks his feet until they're almost bare. It's probably the worst they've ever been, but with the help of stinging nettles and the occasional Benadryl he seems to have moved past the worst of it. Now we start the long process of regrowing all that hair on his little feetsies.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2421/4056672969_0f673f54a1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2421/4056672969_0f673f54a1.jpg" width="351" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Of course it wouldn't be a Big Red photo shoot without some bloopers, so I leave you all with the silly outtakes and wish all of you guys a safe and Happy Halloween!!<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I tried to tell Red that dogs who get busted for digging big holes in the backyard while in search of grubs do not get cookies, but he wasn't buying it! Ha!<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><br />
</i><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Yeah, right lady! Just fork over the cookies, mmmkay!</i><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2427/3951559719_8105486636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2427/3951559719_8105486636.jpg" width="279" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This whole conversation really made me reconsider how smart it was to teach Red the speak command, he's just too smart for his own good and is officially using his training against me! Hahaha!<br />

I have been working hard though, getting new pictures of my crew's daily adventures and will hopefully get back to posting on a more consistent basis!<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Red has really been enjoying himself lately, making lots of new neighborhood friends. His new favorite play buddy, Murphy, lives just a few houses down and Red whines with excitement if we even head in the direction of his house. Murphy and Red are so hilarious together, their favorite go-to game is Wrestling Smack down! You know they're having fun when you see one of them get body slammed and bounce right back up asking for more! Haha!<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">It always starts out so innocently with a quick sprint around the yard from sheer excitement of being together...<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3499/3887733322_f48de65bf7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3499/3887733322_f48de65bf7.jpg" width="420" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And then before you know it someone's in a head lock! lol<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2564/3887738148_eddb1ce099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2564/3887738148_eddb1ce099.jpg" width="420" /></a><br />
</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">You wouldn't believe the trash talking that goes on between these two...<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>What'd you say about my momma?</i><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2630/3887735558_d74b6129ba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2630/3887735558_d74b6129ba.jpg" width="420" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>I didn't say anything about your momma, you momma's boy!</i><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><i> <br />
</i><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This goes on forever, until they are both so wiped out, that they both lie down head-to-head and chew and tug on each other's loose face skin! Haha! They really are a silly pair!<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3518/3887749034_e0450e5152.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3518/3887749034_e0450e5152.jpg" width="420" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Now that you've met Red's new BFF, he wanted me to also introduce his girlfriend/walking buddy, Lady, a lab/rottweiler mix that lives right across the street. Lady's food lady had surgery on her foot, which put her out of walking commission for a while so I've taken up her twice daily walks. This has thrilled Red, and it is so cute to see little 50-pound Red trotting next to 100+ pound Lady...he's like her little sidekick! Ha!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Red wanted me to tell you guys he is sorry for the lack of posts lately, but it's just so darn hot and humid outside lately, it's all he can do to go sit out on the coolaroo and think lovely thoughts of cool fall weather. It's been so muggy and humid here the past couple of weeks that Red's seasonal allergies are really flaring up, and he is one itchy itchy boy. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Why does it have to be sooooo humid! The other day Abby and Itty Bitty slipped out while I was heading into the backyard so I figured why not and let the whole gang go outside, minus High Cotton and Ms. Wiggles who were very concerned about the effects the humidity might have on their fluffy white hair. </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Itty Bitty dashed out into the yard only to remember he is a big giant scaredy cat, and he spent most of his time looking around like this to make sure nothing scary was after him.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3469/3769753424_968299ae8c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3469/3769753424_968299ae8c.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Abby thinks she is a jungle cat, and out of my whole crew she is the one I am constantly on the look out for because she will dart out a door in a second if given the opportunity. She lives to eat the grass and always makes herself right at home. She likes to pretend that she is a big tough kitty, but once she has had her fun she wants back inside and does not like being left unattended while out in the big outdoors. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3540/3768959705_5904a6e2c3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3540/3768959705_5904a6e2c3.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Bella went right to the good stuff, the dirt! She didn't waste any time heading for the flower bed where there was no shortage of wonderful dirt filled smells to be had!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3495/3768956863_7c9605aa56.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3495/3768956863_7c9605aa56.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Sophie, not one to be left behind, was hot on Bella's trail! I don't know why they do it, but my cats have a habit of pairing off according to color, so while Itty Bitty and Abby were busy watching for bugs in the grass, Bella and Sophie were strolling the flower bed, while High Cotton and Ms. Wiggles lounged on the porch sipping water!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3591/3769755566_a29d12f8ae.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3591/3769755566_a29d12f8ae.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">When Bella hit the brakes to stop and sniff the ground, Sophie, never one to miss an opportunity regardless of where the situation presents itself, went in for the butt sniff!! Haha! Seriously, with all the exciting stuff outside, Sophie still could not pass up the chance to get a big whiff of Bella's behind! Sophie "The Perpetual Butt Sniffer" strikes again!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3436/3768954829_214e492c97.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3436/3768954829_214e492c97.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>So what! I like sniffing butts, you gotta problem with that?!?!</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2605/3769758378_d47585e2e3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2605/3769758378_d47585e2e3.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Never one to be left out, Red was whining up a storm on the porch wanting to be let<i> </i>out into he backyard so he could have fun with the kitties too, so I finally relented and went to let him join in. Red was so overjoyed that he could come out and play too that he saw what he thought was Abby hanging out in the grass, and ran full speed towards what he thought was his bestest buddy. He was wrong, very wrong. </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
It was in fact not Abby he was running towards, but Itty Bitty, his <a href="https://bigreddogblog.blogspot.com/2009/06/love-hate-relationship.html">mortal enemy</a>! I couldn't help myself and promptly ordered one and waited for it to arrive. When I went to the mailbox and found the package, I ripped it open only to discover a shirt more aptly suited for one of my cats! Haha! I checked the invoice and it said small, and I thought they must have just made a mistake.</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I gave customer service a call, and they agreed to send another one at no charge in the correct size, they were wonderful about it and told me to keep the first one too. So I waited again, and again ripped open the new package when it arrived only to discover the exact same size! Either they sent the wrong size again, or we have two different definitions of what a large is. </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">At this point I gave up and cut my losses, and thought of two perfectly sized pups who might could use these cute green polos and shipped them off to the pugs of the <a href="https://www.caninemafiosos.com/">Canine Mafia</a>! Hey, even mobsters like to look nice! Haha! Hopefully, they will get better use of them than we did!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Hmmm...is this some new kind of neck warmer?</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2492/3769748840_2a0d67a3f5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2492/3769748840_2a0d67a3f5.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Does this shirt make my head look big?</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinQnNq-mitvmvlUeXawnm4RoyFY2Ra5r12x88MuU65FfPtYJvyfo1ONU5Cg7aVEiBYsQuobxtqj-c5hxxXz_kRQUTo7C94d1ObJ1Tz_tcuxqXJiiFuEZApx00PrbOMJUd-R3ZijQ6J_BK6/s1600-h/IMG_0664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinQnNq-mitvmvlUeXawnm4RoyFY2Ra5r12x88MuU65FfPtYJvyfo1ONU5Cg7aVEiBYsQuobxtqj-c5hxxXz_kRQUTo7C94d1ObJ1Tz_tcuxqXJiiFuEZApx00PrbOMJUd-R3ZijQ6J_BK6/s400/IMG_0664.JPG" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I even tried the polo on Itty Bitty, but apparently the shirt has some magical power that renders kitties unable to move, so that didn't work either! It was either that or the fact that it fit Itty Bitty more like a dress than a shirt! Haha!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">You can even see Bitty's tail is a little fuzzy because he was swishing it around to show me his displeasure in this torture suit I had put on him! LOL </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3546/3769749566_8bc492c085.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3546/3769749566_8bc492c085.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div> Unknown noreply@blogger.com 29 tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734596490484749474.post-2219928972208352565 2009-07-18T02:52:00.000-04:00 2009-07-18T02:52:15.345-04:00 High Cotton Turns 5! <div style="text-align: center;">So I am a bad mom and did not realize it was Cotton's birthday yesterday until it was quite late last night, but thankfully I had some chicken baby food stored away in the pantry for just such an occasion! Cotton is my little weirdo, and has absolutely no interest whatsoever in any wet food I have ever offered him, but he lives for chicken baby food, so that made his night! He's also a carbaholic, but that's a whole other post! Haha!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Boy does time fly though, I can't believe my purr monster boy is already 5 years old! I've already told him that this is it, he is no longer allowed to get any older...though I'm not sure he was listening as he promptly meowed at me wanting to know why I had stopped the chin rubbin's!</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">A retrospective of my favorites of my lovable silly Cotton ball:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">At 8 months old, this was taken the day we brought him home, back when he still had a small head ;)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1053/824592951_b8b69d79ff.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1053/824592951_b8b69d79ff.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">He quickly showed what a laid back little dude he was...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1356/816529852_21e79f07d5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1356/816529852_21e79f07d5.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">And that bath time made him very grumpy...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1001/815643479_4ef7f1d21d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1001/815643479_4ef7f1d21d.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">But that covering him up with a nice blanket after a bath, to help warm him up makes him very happy and sleepy...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1292/816077672_84e10f1dc8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1292/816077672_84e10f1dc8.jpg" width="420" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> He showed off his master skills at finding wonderful napping spots...</div><a href="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1400/814922101_ee6aee60fe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1400/814922101_ee6aee60fe.jpg" width="420" /></a><br />

My dog has a secret identity. Most of the time he's busy hanging out in the backyard, lounging on the porch with the kitties, or playing with his toys, but when danger knocks Red's alter-ego comes out and he's ready to protect at a moment's notice!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Introducing Underdog!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/2883560332_f20586d896.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/2883560332_f20586d896.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Red takes his Superhero duties very seriously, and is always on the lookout for any opportunities where he may be needed, be it helping a grandma across the street or scaring away the squirrels when they try and storm the neighbor's bird feeder!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
You should see the way the squirrels tremble when Red busts out his cape! She was hovering over a bag of lemons I could have sworn were pushed up against the wall of the counter, but were now close to the edge of the counter. I stop and just watch her for a second and she goes back to what she was doing, which was rubbing herself all over the lemons! So, of course I grabbed my camera to document her weirdness :)</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">You'd have thought that bag of lemons was really a bag of catnip the way she was loving on those things! Haha!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/kNu8YYAbLzn_mMoV3FTN5g?authkey=Gv1sRgCMHbzMyf9v7GywE&feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0DQrCk6-KPxt27xd6gkaMJ0uoZ4Acy-mBxRN4-cpXJGm-gU8rJ1vioB8R15xuUny244wXPxXpQV9XN3vcgVbALPjb02lSRpnoRyeYdOXRjb1v-ktVVd7cJdYREGpQOYaYbHaefI2Pi1mU/s400/IMG_0568-2.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">I asked Abby, "What are you doing?"</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <i>Huh! Now when I open the door, the cats, instead of running right out, will feel the air hit them and contemplate whether they really want to go out there or not, and most of them turn right back around to find a cozy spot in the nice cool AC. Except for one, Miss Bella lives for the hottest summer weather. I think she must have been a lizard in a past life, because even in the middle of the day, when it's really hot and muggy out there, she will march right out and roll over on her back like she's trying to get a tan on that speckled pink belly of hers! Sometimes if it's too hot, I will have to go forcibly remove the silly fuzzball so she doesn't get overheated. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">When she's not busy napping or soaking up the sun, she hops onto the back of the wicker chairs and takes in all the activity in the backyard and woods. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3660450939_048c9c3dc9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3660450939_048c9c3dc9.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Sometimes if Abby's not commandering the kitty bed, she'll crash out there...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2480/3660446257_03615a31ee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2480/3660446257_03615a31ee.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">or steal a place on one of Red's beds...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3041/2734585078_e03d59b8c5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3041/2734585078_e03d59b8c5.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">but mostly she just finds a nice spot on the wood floor and stretches out to get optimal soakage of the sun!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3139/2734584890_9a98490853.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3139/2734584890_9a98490853.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Luckily, she is very good about taking a break from her tanning to rehydrate! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2228/2502552672_cb0ca91c91.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2228/2502552672_cb0ca91c91.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">One of the fun things I like to do with the warmer weather is to drag the cat toys out onto the screen porch and bust out the catnip! This past weekend I brought some of the cats favorite scratching posts and toys onto the porch to enjoy the warmer temperatures, and with the added catnip it only amped up the fun! Of course, I forgot to video it, but I did dig out an older video taken at our last house and I thought I would leave it for you all to see the silly antics in person of my crazy little fluffballs. Make sure to keep an eye out for when Sophie kicks herself in the head with her own back foot when she is playing with her catnip snake, it's a hoot and she still does it to this day when she gets overly excited! Hahaha!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><object height="344" width="425"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/OK-ZF5peYSk&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/OK-ZF5peYSk&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></div> Unknown noreply@blogger.com 4 tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734596490484749474.post-5290539942744323128 2009-06-23T03:23:00.000-04:00 2009-06-23T03:23:16.974-04:00 Red Goes to College It's been a crazy and busy past couple of weeks and I have been lacking in my blog postings, if only there were a few more hours in the day! I've been in and out of town the past week, as my brother and I are now in charge of getting my grandmother's home that she moved out of, ready to go on the market. My grandmother has been in that house for about 45 years, so it's a very big job, but thankfully Red loves to come along with me.<br />
<br />
Last weekend Red went to college! I was busy with the Nana, helping her get some final things straightened out, so Red got to stay with my brother for the weekend, who is still in college. This was my brother's first test of how he would do with the responsibility of taking care of a dog all by himself, and he failed! Haha! Okay, so I was a little tough on him, but he did forget to feed Red the first day until I called and reminded him! Red is such a good sport, he never begs or lets on when he is hungry, so he didn't even try and clue in Uncle Reyn that he had forgotten his dinner. Initially I had these visions of a crowd of rowdy college boys chanting Red's name, while they prepared a beer funnel for him, but thankfully things went really well and Red did enjoy his time spent with Uncle Reyn. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">But Red does love his Uncle, and even though my brother had sworn Red would not be allowed on his bed, Red had worked his magic within minutes of arriving and promptly spent the next few days cuddled up in his Uncle's bed! Haha! Red knows how to work his charms!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3065/2551877807_36a2721870.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3065/2551877807_36a2721870.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">They are quite the silly pair, and have similar senses of humor and you never know what you'll find them up to when they get together, haha!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">There are no words. Hahahahaha! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2168/2161561526_9337ee5fa4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2168/2161561526_9337ee5fa4.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
The best thing about Uncle Reyn's place is that there is a dog park right across the street, this pleased Red to no end! He loves other dogs, so he was thrilled to make multiple daily visits with the other pups during his stay. Of course, with the lovely hot and humid summer weather in full effect, he worked up quite the stink. And since it is so hot out, I figured there was no better time than to break out the hose for some cooling off and a little stink removal.</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Red was all blissed out just enjoying the beautiful summer day. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1sTCqR73ndXlrfrtwWQJcSdEn1A_WmAU6bGmhfj6w2bpcPPClabqameBywln_pPGkUtSi1ZtElkkIjGrhg8yH5C37oGt_ty6FX15vTC2iR6G2UzB4QxrwjppYKrVl_A87GaXTBcQt-cWB/s1600-h/IMG_0479-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1sTCqR73ndXlrfrtwWQJcSdEn1A_WmAU6bGmhfj6w2bpcPPClabqameBywln_pPGkUtSi1ZtElkkIjGrhg8yH5C37oGt_ty6FX15vTC2iR6G2UzB4QxrwjppYKrVl_A87GaXTBcQt-cWB/s400/IMG_0479-2.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark! I love my dog. He is pretty much the perfect dog for me, my heart dog, but he has this one thing that can totally drive you out of your mind. He has perfected this bark scream/shriek that with prolonged exposure could make even the most hardened criminal crumble. Seriously, I think the military could utilize tapings of his bark screams to break people in interrogations. Haha!<br />
<br />
Last night Red decided there was a possible perimeter breach and he wasn't going to allow it to happen without sounding the alarm...all night long. I trust his instincts, as he actually alerted us to a man in our backyard in the middle of the night a couple of months ago, so I always give him the benefit of the doubt the first time. But living in the country we have lots and lots of "Bad Guys", otherwise known as deer and squirrels and the deer love to come mingle in the empty lot next to us late at night.<br />
<br />
Starting at about 3am Red decided there were Bad Guys too close to "his" yard for his comfort and no amount of getting up and letting him do a quick check of the backyard was going to stop the shrieking. I begged, I pleaded, I stomped my foot...and all Red did was bark back at me. He's lucky the other 99% of the time he is so darn cute!<br />
<br />
It just so happens I have footage of said bark shrieking that I can share with you guys! I will forewarn you, that you want to check your computer volume before playing this video if you value your hearing, haha! As Red's favorite time to do his shrieking is late at night, the video is in night mode so you'll have to forgive the quality.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Right around the 35 second mark it gets really good...don't say I didn't warn you! Ha!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><object height="285" width="340"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/HS6naj3I63U&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/HS6naj3I63U&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="340" height="285"></embed></object></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

This isn't for lack of trying on Red's part, he has tried to befriend Bitty since I brought him home a little over 2 years ago. At this point Red has realized that winning Bitty over is a pretty futile battle, so he has taken to doing his best to avoid any runs-ins with him, since Itty Bitty lays in wait to get a chance to remind Red who the boss man around here is.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">This is what happens when you don't check behind doors before entering a room...notice the blood droplets on Red's nose after he was sucker punched by a lurking Bitty. Luckily, he takes things like this in stride, and has yet to make any revenge attempts. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3605/3301834394_8e7ca034ce.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3605/3301834394_8e7ca034ce.jpg" width="249" /></a></div><br />

Give Red a kong and watch the silliness that ensues! Red loves his kongs and he was such a good boy this weekend when I drug him along with me to Lowe's for flower shopping and picking up yard supplies, so in return he got his favorite kong filled with peanut butter, kibble, and a biscuit!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Luckily for Red, Bitty grew bored watching the "stupid" dog (his words, not mine! lol) and wandered off, leaving Red to continue to enjoy his kong.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2481/3569380442_6de2c08abb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2481/3569380442_6de2c08abb.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

A certain someone doesn't like not being the center of attention! Haha!</div> Unknown noreply@blogger.com 6 tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734596490484749474.post-4822175597811218457 2009-05-15T17:33:00.008-04:00 2009-05-15T21:13:47.324-04:00 Sophie + Kitty Grass = Funny!! So the last time I was at my local pet supply store I picked up this nifty and quite lovely <a href="https://www.esmartcat.com/shopping/Kittys_Garden.htm">kitty grass container</a> that I can sit on my kitchen table for the kittehs. The neat thing about it is that it comes with 4 different types of grass: oats, wheat, barley, and rye. It has proven to be a big hit amongst my crew!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Itty Bitty wasted no time diving right in...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3377/3495070122_1795573747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3377/3495070122_1795573747.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Cotton was not so graceful, lol...but the whole smushed face thing surely didn't help his situation! Haha!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3383/3495071070_b0b8088556.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3383/3495071070_b0b8088556.jpg" width="279" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
He was still able to get his nom on though!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3658/3494254969_e65810e341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3658/3494254969_e65810e341.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">They were a little peeved when they thought the grass was not organic though...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Madame, this grass is NOT organic!</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3541/3494255051_9f0e8431a5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3541/3494255051_9f0e8431a5.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><br />
Cotton was quite relieved to find out it was in fact, 100% organic!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Ahhhh, all is right in the world...</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3622/3494252181_faa819f4c1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3622/3494252181_faa819f4c1.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">Then Sophie stumbled upon the new kitty grass and being the little diva that she is, she informed me that I needed to feed her some grass by hand! Of course, she had her preferences too...she didn't like the wheat, barley, or rye grass, but loved the oats! </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Hmmm, what's this? Kitty grass you say...</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3559/3534362952_f77acc7572.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3559/3534362952_f77acc7572.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

One thing I love to do when I am over near Fearrington Village is to stop and see the <a href="https://www.fearrington.com/village/cows.asp">Belted Galloway cows</a>, or as some like to call them, the oreo cows! So after Red and I had walked around their pond and moved past his fear of the scary stone sheep, I thought we would head over to see the cows, since Red had never seen them other than from the window of the car.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">As we approached the cows, Red got pretty excited, sniffing the air and picking up the lovely aroma of cow poo.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3375/3520538553_2d6e2584a8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3375/3520538553_2d6e2584a8.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">This big guy was in a field by himself, and came right up to the fence in order to check Red and I out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3538/3520539249_5ebf8e4c75.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3538/3520539249_5ebf8e4c75.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">It was then as the cow approached the fence, getting closer to us that Red realized the massive size difference between himself and the cows, and the fear set in! Haha! He made Red pretty nervous, as he was curious about Red as well, and I think Red just didn't know what to make of him! LOL</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/3520542823_676bbcc3d1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/3520542823_676bbcc3d1.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">With his tail tucked and ears down, Red slowly inched closer to the cow...</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3345/3521352746_fdb68bf3fc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3345/3521352746_fdb68bf3fc.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />

Once Red's curiosity with the nice cow was settled, we walked over to the adjacent field where there was a whole herd of cows and a lone donkey. As I understand it there are 3 donkeys who call Fearrington home, who are there to make visitors smile and to provide protection from predators for the cows. I don't quite know what type of predators or how a donkey protects the cows, but this is what I was told.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">As Red and I approached the fence, the donkey made a bee line straight for us, clearly wanting to make sure we were not some shady characters there to do any cownapping, haha!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3577/3520548593_0b3dce19b8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3577/3520548593_0b3dce19b8.jpg" width="247" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Donkey: Identification please, and state the purpose for your visit!</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3595/3521356892_4b280c55c0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3595/3521356892_4b280c55c0.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Well I was just curious if you might have any spare cow caca laying around I might have? I heard from <a href="https://www.caninemafiosos.com/2009/04/falling-falls.html">The Mafiosos</a> that it is an amazingly tasty delicacy</i>, <i>and I wanted to give it a try. </i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3546/3521357938_92e1a1c81d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3546/3521357938_92e1a1c81d.jpg" width="420" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>Oh, I think I see some right there...if you could just nudge it over here to me I would be so grateful! <a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3542/3520547991_2e0c04e247.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3542/3520547991_2e0c04e247.jpg" width="420" /></a></i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
I so wish I had captured what happened next, because it was so hysterically funny! Right as Red got brave enough to lean his head over the railing, the donkey blew a giant sneeze right at Red, and Red was so startled by it that he basically levitated straight up into the air and landed about a foot back from the fence! Hahaha! </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">The donkey then turned and left Red with this amazing view as his parting gift, haha! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3625/3501944753_dfd24c8aff.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3625/3501944753_dfd24c8aff.jpg" width="279" /></a></i></div><i><br />
</i>Poor Red, he never did get to try any caca... Unknown noreply@blogger.com 13 tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734596490484749474.post-7190970126161298501 2009-05-07T05:06:00.006-04:00 2009-05-07T05:14:30.197-04:00 And in the category of 'Pretending to be Killed by a Harmless Medical Proceure,' the winner is... <div style="text-align: left;">After some procrastination on my part it was time for Red's annual heartworm test, and with the snake bites as a motivator I took Red in to the see the vet on Monday. After a quick look at Red's nose area, since he seemed to be tender there, it was decided to put him on a round of antibiotics just to be on the safe side since he got bitten so many times. Red was excited because it meant twice daily spoon fulls of peanut butter to conceal the pills in!</div><br />
Now for the fun part of the visit! Red has built somewhat of a reputation at the vet's for being, just a wee bit overly dramatic. Thankfully he doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, but even the smallest attempt at being restrained sends him into a panic attack. We've tried the less is more approach and also the opposite, and even the anxiety meds approach, but it all really comes down to wrangling him till he gives in.<br />
<br />
Sometimes we luck out, but Monday was not one of those days. After his best impression of a bucking bronco when we attempted to draw blood from his back leg, we gave up and moved to the front leg. The vet took his leg in her hand and readied the needle in the other and prepared to slide the needle under his skin when Red started yelping and crying and literally flailing around like a toddler throwing a tantrum. <br />
<br />
The vet, vet tech, and I all just got silent and then the vet goes, "But Red I didn't even touch you with the needle yet!" And I swear to you, Red stopped flailing around, looked down at his arm which had no needle in it and stopped. Hahahahahahahahaha! It was as if he could understand the vet and totally realized that he had been busted totally faking being in pain! Ha ha! We all just died laughing and right after that he let her stick him and draw his blood. I'm thinking that he was feeling a little embarrassed! Haha!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Don't listen to her! It was a big ginormous needle and it hurt really really badly! I'm telling you the truth, I swear!!! </i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3272/3044933188_fb17997ce8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3272/3044933188_fb17997ce8.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><br />
Luckily once this was all over Red was back to his silly happy self boucing around the vet's office looking for the office kitty to give a few friendly nose pokes to! On our way home I decided to take a detour to a little community called Fearrington Village, to stop and take Red for a walk around their cute little community.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"> We quickly came upon a very scary site...something that sends shivers down any dogs spine...stone sheep sculptures. Yes, my dog was afraid of the stone sheep.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3128/3509157391_079f179e9f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3128/3509157391_079f179e9f.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Red quickly went into bad guy woofing mode...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Danger! Danger! There is a scary herd of grey sheep ahead! Run away, run away!<br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3320/3509966634_2cc8edf7b7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3320/3509966634_2cc8edf7b7.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
For a dog willing to take a snake head on, Red is quite the wuss when it comes to encounters with unfamiliar things, haha! Red made it clear he needed some time to think about the scary sheep before we could approach them, so we went around the pond and stopped at the small creek. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3651/3509968846_b539f1a91f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3651/3509968846_b539f1a91f.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Once we made it back around to the sheep, Red had moved into a more curious frame of mind in regards to the sheep, so after some circling and reassurement that the sheep would not in fact eat him, he moved in to give them a good sniffing.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>Hmmm...you guys are some shady looking sheep, and I don't trust you one bit!</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3310/3509967080_34ce0508ea.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3310/3509967080_34ce0508ea.jpg" width="420" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Never underestimate the power of yummy duck treats...one whiff of those and Red threw his caution to the wind and hopped atop one of the sheep!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>::yawn:: These sheep aren't even real, why didn't you tell me this from the beginning!</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3614/3509158069_54b61c49c4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3614/3509158069_54b61c49c4.jpg" width="279" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;">I look good from up here!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3324/3509968476_1e2e1de6b0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3324/3509968476_1e2e1de6b0.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>We should visit these sheepies more often, they make great lookout towers!</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3509159061_dd6547d4fe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3509159061_dd6547d4fe.jpg" width="277" /></a></div><br />
Once he realized the herd of sheep couldn't eat him he had a blast taking in all the sights and smells. When we finished visiting the sheep and walking around the pond, we headed over to visit the Belted Galloway cows and the guard donkey, which I will post about tomorrow!<br />

**Thanks to PiedmontAnimalAlliance for the post title and for always having the best captions!** Unknown noreply@blogger.com 8 tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734596490484749474.post-5970423099452642651 2009-05-04T02:23:00.000-04:00 2009-05-04T02:23:45.368-04:00 Snake Bite Red and I had quite the eventful Sunday afternoon.<br />
<br />
Red was on the screen porch and started whining like he normally does when he sees a squirrel, so thinking nothing of it, I let him out. He ran straight to the back of the yard into the bushes we have along the fence line. As I stood watching I heard him start growling, which is out of character for him if it were just a squirrel and then like a shot of lightning, a snake shot out of the bushes towards the fence with Red right behind it. Let me just say they don't call them Black Racers for nothing! Ha Ha!<br />
<br />
It started shooting up and down the fence line, obviously looking for a way out, and trying to hurl itself over the fence when it couldn't find a way out. When it couldn't get out, it turned to defend itself. <br />
<br />
Red went right after it, and cornered it against the fence lunging, barking, growling, and trying to bite it. Once the shock of what I was seeing wore off I just ran into the backyard, barefoot and still in my pajamas, just screaming my head off telling Red no and trying to call him off, but he was too focused on the snake to even hear me. My mom heard me and came running onto the porch and threw a broom out to me. By this point I could see the snake striking Red in the face and I just was desperate to separate them. <br />
<br />
I was able to use the broom as a shield, as the snake was very unhappy at this point, all coiled up and striking at any movement. Once I was able to grab a hold of Red's collar he dropped to the ground and went onto his back, which scared the crap out of me. With the snake all coiled up and staring right at us, all I could think was this snake is going to launch itself right as us both as I'm trying to get Red to stand back up. He wouldn't get up, so while still holding the snake back with the broom I just grabbed Red's two front feet and drug him to the middle of the yard. I guess he was so determined not to leave the snake, that he did the back flop in a effort to keep me from dragging him away. Red doesn't take kindly to what we like to call "perimeter breaches" by certain animals coming into his backyard. Apparently this snake was not on the guest list, and Red wasn't going to leave it alone without putting up a fight! Ha!<br />
<br />
Once we were a safe distance I just lifted him up and threw him over my shoulder and ran inside with him. He had blood all over his snout, teeth, and chin. Once I was able to clean him up I was able to see that he only had about three bites, two above his nose and one on the chin. I ran back outside and took a picture of the snake because I thought if I needed to take him to the vet I could show them what kind it was, since I am not well versed in identifying snakes. After a call in to the emergency vet, it was decided that it was a Black Racer, a non-poisonous snake, and all I needed to do was flush out the bites with some warm water and to keep an eye out for any swelling. <br />
<br />
I was so relieved is wasn't a more dangerous snake, but Red sure didn't think things through when he picked out one of the most aggressive non-poisonous snakes out there to tangle with! Cornering a Black Racer is a very bad idea. They do not take kindly to that sort of treatment! Ha!<br />
<br />
But holy crap, I hope I never encounter anything like that again because I'm not sure my heart could take it.<br />
<br />
For the curious out there I will share some of the pictures of our lovely visitor...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3312/3500088110_29162569b1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3312/3500088110_29162569b1.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3393/3500088724_9a31cebebf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3393/3500088724_9a31cebebf.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">And here is one I took a little while after the bite, where you can see the small amount of swelling across the bridge of his nose, and you can see two of the fang marks from one of the bites.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3664/3498178277_2fcee1c383.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="390" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3664/3498178277_2fcee1c383.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Red was really working the sympathy angle yesterday, and made it very clear that the only way he could move past the trauma of his encounter with the snake was lots and lots of cookies! Haha!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">This of course led to the cookie coma!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3417/3494257533_760f7bc19a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3417/3494257533_760f7bc19a.jpg" width="279" /></a></div> Unknown noreply@blogger.com 46
