About Me

My name is Jim Etchison, and I was once very much like Paul, the main character of my novel. I was a member of a mega-church in Southern California, trying my best to lead a spiritual life. I lead worship for our youth group, taught Bible Studies, went on mission trips, witnessed in the streets, and even attended seminary. When I was 32, my ability to squelch my own doubts finally gave way to the immense weight of my own cognitive dissonance. My faith collapsed. After years of picking up the pieces and reassembling my view of the world, I realized I was an atheist.

As a writer, I have published a handful of poems and short stories. I worked as a writer for Walt Disney Imagineering, and a myriad of technical publications. “Zealot” is my first published novel.
