Free-floating planets – lonely wanderers in the Milky Way

It could be called the discovery of the decade. The existence of a new class of exoplanets – free-floating planets – was demonstrated by an international team of astronomers, in which scientists from the large-scale OGLE sky survey conducted at the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw and the Gaia Science Alerts project of the Gaia satellite played a key role.

On 19th December, the astronaut’s final meeting took place as part of the scientific and technological tour “IGNIS".

Three new ERC grants at the University of Warsaw

Why do empires collapse? How to solve the reachability problem in infinite-state systems? In what ways does mathematics allow us to describe the structure of a graph? During the following years, these questions will be explored by three researchers from the UW. On 9th December, Prof. Maria Nowak, Prof. Wojciech Czerwiński and Prof. Michał Pilipczuk joined the group of recipients of ERC grants.
