Chaos Theory: How to Prevent a Total Collapse!
Chaos theory describes how complex and unpredictable results occur in systems that are sensitive to their initial conditions. Tiny variations in the initial condition of nonlinear dynamic systems can result in large variations in the behavior of that system.
Butterfly Effect, a common example, states that the flutter of a butterfly’s wings in China can [and will] create changes in the atmosphere that affect weather patterns in New Orleans; for example, it can set off [or prevent] a category five hurricane off the coast of Louisiana. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the system’s outcome might have been entirely different.
Put differently, a very small occurrence can result in unpredictable and sometimes dramatic outcomes by triggering a sequence of exponentially significant events.
Where We Are
We are about seven-eights of the way between the fourth and fifth phases of collapse of the world. The Fourth phase of collapse started in 1980 when humans energy consumption exceeded the critical level of 9.51 terawatts (9.51E+12 joules/second).
The fifth¹ phase of collapse could unfold by as early as 2012 when, according to the worst case scenario, about 20% the world’s cities become unsustainable and begin to collapse. Massive waves of human migration from the affected areas create a domino effect that causes the collapse of most of the remaining population centers possibly by as early as 2015.
