Overview of the resource (1)
Introducing the English language to K-12 students using cooperative learning. Students will use beginning English language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing for everyday circumstances and academic purposes. Activities will provide emphasis on basic English language structures and simple sentence patterns in short conversations; speaking and listening skills with an introduction to reading comprehension; and write phrases, short sentences and paragraph structures. As more immigrants and international students are entering the educational system, learning the basics of english will make it easier for learners to adapt to the new environment and help them with their day to day activities. English is also required for most post secondary studies admission; therefore, learning english will create many educational opportunities for learners.
What learning theory was used and why? (2)
Out of the three learning theories, this resource is best suited for the behaviourism approach. Behaviourists promote working with reinforcement and feedback to develop habits for the students, while cognitivism works with learners by helping them make connections to prior understandings and constructivists help by having learners make their own interpretations based on their own experiences.
