Bangui: Living It Up

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of thousands of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said… ”I made a difference for that one.”

The three Academic Teams (graduating Valedictorians and Salutatorians) from the three campuses of the Bangui National High School will compete in an Academic Decathlon with questions from the following knowledge areas: (1) Philippine History and Geography, (2) World History and Geography, (3) Fitness, Nutrition, Physical and Sex Education, (4) Human Relations, (5) Reading Skills and Comprehension, (6) Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, General Science, Physical Science), (7) Algebra, (8) Geometry and Trigonometry, (9) Business and Consumer Math, and (10) General (Economics, English, Psychology). The English Essay portion of the Scholarship Examination shall be considered only as a tie breaker in the event there is a tie for the highest total score in the Academic Decathlon between any two of the competing Academic Teams. The Academic Team with the highest score in the Academic Decathlon shall be presented the Felix Soriano Scholarship Annual Awards.
