Thinking

TODAY’S VERSE
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
Romans 8:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“What were you thinking?” Have you ever had anyone ask you that? Usually, it’s after something goes wrong. There was a misjudgment, and your thinking has been questioned. But Paul is suggesting something different. He says we should be purposeful before we think and watch what we let dominate our minds. Paul indicates that it is either the Spirit of God or our sinful nature. What a world of difference the two mindsets have on our lives. The mind dominated by the sinful nature leads to sinful thinking and behavior. The mind controlled by the Spirit of God leads us to do what pleases the Spirit. Today, say “No” to the sinful nature with its temptation and lust. Instead, be controlled by the Holy Spirit

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to live my life for You. Let Your Holy Spirit control my thinking. I give You my mind; guide me, direct me, lead me into Your will.
AMEN

A Friend Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
He has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
Colossians 1:22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What you believe about yourself is key to the way you live. And what you believe God thinks about you can help the way you believe about yourself. That is why Paul wrote his letter to the Colossian church. He wanted us to know who we are. Paul starts, saying that we were the very enemies of God, separated by our evil thoughts and actions. But just as quickly, he shares that God, through Christ’s death on the cross, has now accepted us as His friends. In their book “TrueFaced,” the authors say it this way, “As a maturing Christian, I no longer define myself by my sin or the sin committed against me, but by who God declared me to be.” And what has God declared about you? He has declared that you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him as His friend. Today, let this reality sink deep into your heart. Let it fill you with joy and peace as you live for Him. You are God’s friend!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for declaring me holy and blameless as I stand before You as Your friend. Thank You that through the death and resurrection of Christ, Your Son, I am Your child, completely loved and forgiven of all my sins. Help me to live in this reality.
AMEN

Transform Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we become Christians, God begins transforming our lives. His goal is to transform us into all He created us to be. He does this by renewing our minds. This is more than changing the way we think. It is also changing the way we feel. It includes those sensations that send us into mood swings or addictive behavior. God wants to change our negative beliefs and restructure our irrational thoughts. But how? How can God do this? He does this through His Holy Spirit. As we study His word, spend time in prayer, and listen to God, He will renew our minds. As we also spend time in fellowship with other believers and seek the counsel of other Godly men and women, He will transform us. It is through this continuous process that we mature into the person He wants us to be. Today, give yourself to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Submit yourself to the process of change and let Him transform you through the renewing of your mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your help in making me into the person You want me to be. Come, Holy Spirit; I give You my mind, my emotions, and my will. Guide me, lead me, and transform me, I pray.
AMEN

Truly Forgiven

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Psalms 103:8-12

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Bible is clear that it is our sins that have separated us from God. It is equally clear that Christ’s death and resurrection have paid the penalty for our sins. The Psalmist assures us that God will not deal with us according to our sins. He insists that God doesn’t even remember our sins! Then why do so many of us still feel separated from Him? It is false guilt, fear of rejection, and a disbelief that we are unconditionally loved by God that keep us full of fear and doubt. These and many other thoughts keep us from basking in God’s grace. But the Apostle John insists, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” John’s attitude was firm! He was sure of God’s forgiveness, and so should we. Today, we can rise and declare our position in Christ. Because of what Christ has done, you and I can look our inner critic in the eye and say, “No more! You cannot accuse me, abuse me, call me names, belittle me, and shame me! I have confessed and have been forgiven, and I REFUSE to believe the lie that I am no good, shameful, unlovable, unforgiven, damaged goods, or rejected because of my past experiences. Today, I PRONOUNCE the fact that I am forgiven and unconditionally loved by God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I know I have sinned and confess my participation. I am sorry and repent for ever doing them. I thank You that You have forgiven them all! I accept the fact that I am totally forgiven and loved by You! In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Your Deepest Cares

TODAY’S VERSE
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
I Peter 5:7 (AMP)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why is it that we feel we need to minimize our pain? Where did we get the idea that we would become a burden to God? How did we come to believe that it is unspiritual to admit that we have been a victim of something awful? Abuse, violence, the death of a loved one, divorce, an unfortunate accident, incarceration, war. God cares when we have suffered as a result of something being done to us. And God cares when we have suffered from trauma as a result of something not happening. When love, safety, and security from those we trust are missing, we get trauma in the form of abandonment, unfaithfulness, embezzlement, betrayal, gossip, or neglect. And to pretend that we are not affected, and everything is okay is to only add to the damage that is already left in trauma’s wake. It is not spiritual to “tough it out.” It is spiritual to be healed. Peter is pleading with us to cast all of our cares onto Jesus. His whole book speaks about the suffering of Jesus and how He understands our suffering. And here, Peter assures us that Jesus “cares for you.” He cares for you with deep affection. Today, bring your pain to Jesus. Tell Him about your trauma. Ask Him to give you strength, forgiveness, peace, and a deep understanding of love. Ask Him to heal your broken heart; heal your deep wounds of grief and anger. Bring all of your cares. Cast them on Him and leave them there.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You. I come to You with all my burden, all my cares. You know my pain. You know my suffering. I bring it all to You. Heal my hurts. Heal my heart. Return me to joy, I pray.
AMEN

All Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever really sought after something? Longed to find it? It is amazing to see how serious we can get when it is important to us. This exuberance is how God wants us to seek Him. He spoke through the Prophet Jeremiah, admonishing us that the only way we would find Him was when we seek Him with our whole hearts. Notice that Jeremiah did not say, “When you seek him with your whole intellect.” It is not knowing “about” God; it is about “knowing God” deeply and intimately. God is saying that if you get passionate about Him, then you will begin to find Him. How intent are you on knowing God? Begin today by seeking Him with your whole heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today. I want to know You. I want to have a deep, intimate relationship with You. Help me discipline myself to take the time to know You. Take the time to hear You. Take the time to tell You my thoughts, hopes, and dreams. To share with You my fears, apprehensions, and doubts. As I seek You with all my heart, I pray that You would reveal more and more of Yourself to me.
AMEN

Maturity

TODAY’S VERSE
Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
I Corinthians 3:1-2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul was concerned about the maturity of the Corinth believers. Paul says that when we are new in Christ we should desire to be spiritually mature. After a while, we should be eating spiritual “solid” food not continuing to drink spiritual milk. A new believer needs to get grounded in faith, learn the fundamental truths, and practice the basic spiritual disciplines. However, as time goes by, like a newborn child grows and needs a more comprehensive meal, Christians should desire a deeper walk with God. Paul observed that the Corinth church was immature in their Christian walk. Their spiritual growth was stunted. How about you? How is your spiritual maturity? Can you look over the last year and say, “I know I have grown in Christ this year?” Have you read the Bible, spent time in prayer, and let God work with your personal habits? Has God made a difference in your emotional life? Do you see yourself as more mature in your relationships? There is so much to know and many areas to grow. Pray today that God will help you begin on a healthy spiritual diet so you will grow as a Christian.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need to grow in You. Help my desire become a reality. Help me study Your word and talk to You in prayer. Help me be honest with You and then listen to what You say. I desire more of You and Your word. Feed me I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Power Today

TODAY’S VERSE
For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.
I Corinthians 4:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can sure do a lot of talk. We talk about change. We talk about revival. We talk about outreach. But the truth is, talk alone won’t change anything. And if nothing changes, nothing changes. The New Testament Church exploded because it was more than talk. It was action. The early Christians tapped into the power of God, and it was God’s power working through His people. God’s power to heal the hurting. God’s power to answer prayers. God’s power to change people. God’s power to give boldness and strength even in the face of persecution. God’s power is available to us as well. We serve the same God, and He is on the same mission to love the world through His church. Today, might our hearts cry, “Lord, help me live by Your power!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, give me the faith to believe You for great and mighty things.
I pray that Your power will flow through me to those in need. Father, might Your Kingdom, with all of its power, come. Might Your will be done on earth today, as it is in Heaven!
AMEN

Speak To Me Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
I Samuel 3:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever put yourself in Samuel’s position? Have you been to a place where you desire to hear God’s word? God loves and wants to communicate with you. He speaks through His word, the Bible. He also speaks to your heart through the Holy Spirit. In his book Hearing God, Dallas Willard concludes, “Direction will always be made available to the mature disciple if without it serious harm would befall people concerned in the matter or the cause of Christ. If I am right, the obedient, listening heart, mature in the things of God, will in such a case find the voice plain and the message clear, as with the experiences of the friends of God recorded in the Bible. This is a claim that must be tested by experience, and anyone willing to meet the conditions and learn from failures as well as successes can put it to the test.” Today, open your heart to hearing from God. Commit yourself to spend time with God in Bible reading, meditation, and prayer. Build a deep and trusting relationship with Him and ask Him to share His heart with you. Say with Samuel, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” When you come to God in this way, you will hear from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I give my heart to You and desire to know You better. I desire to hear from You. I long to discern Your direction in my life. I come and say with Samuel, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.” In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Quench Your Thirst

TODAY’S VERSE
Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.
Isaiah 55:1-3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a thirst deep down inside each of us. Each of us has had droughts in our life that have left our souls parched and wanting. Our defects, upbringings, and life situations have failed to satisfy our dehydrated souls. So we look for an oasis. We search for streams in the desert. We look but fail to find what we thirst for. Why? Because we go everywhere to quench our thirst instead of to the One who can satisfy. The prophet cried out to Israel, “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free!” But they refused to come to God. God offered them unfailing love, but they rejected Him. Jesus, hundreds of years later, spoke to a woman at a well about living water. She came looking to fill her bucket, but He offered to fill her soul. Jesus said, “If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.” That day she opened her heart and accepted God’s living water. At that moment her soul was rejuvenated, and she told her whole town about the transforming power of Christ. The town came and drank for themselves, going back home reborn. What about you? Is your soul thirsty? Have you been drinking from other sources only to be left wanting? Come today to Christ. Come to Him and share your needs. Talk to Him, pour out your heart, bare your soul to Him, and He will quench your deepest thirst. He is the living water and desires to give you life. Hear God call out today, “Come and drink, I will give you fresh living water.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thirst. My soul is parched. I need Your living water. I come now, mouth wide open ready to drink. Please refresh my soul with Your word. Quench my thirst with Your Holy Spirit. Give me Your living water, and I will be satisfied. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
