Trust God With Your Life

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God!
Psalms 25:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus has called us to follow Him. More than church attendance and weekly worship, Jesus wants us to be His disciples. David knew what this meant. He came to Jehovah God and said. “O Lord, I give my life to you.” God would ask the same of us. And it takes faith. We are choosing to take the only life we have and say, “Here, God, I know You gave me this life, so I am giving it back, trusting that You have a plan for me. You know best, and I trust You.” That is what David did. God is asking the same of you. Today, trust Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I choose to give my life to You. I want You to be the Lord of all I am and do. I trust You, Lord, and Your unconditional love for me.
AMEN

Surrender

TODAY’S VERSE
Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God.
Romans 6:12-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes, we emphasize the wrong thing. We try to stop the darkness instead of turning on the light. We punish negative behavior and never reward what is done right. We save our money so tightly that we don’t spend money on great opportunities that come our way. It seems that Paul was going to do the same thing. He writes, “Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin.” Now, how hard is that? How joyful will that experience be? Don’t get me wrong, Paul is entirely correct! We must watch sin in our lives. We dare not get loose with our lives and live out sinful whims. But there is a better way. Paul finishes his thoughts by saying, “Instead, give yourselves completely to God.” How much better is that? There is real wisdom here, a real balance. If we give ourselves completely to God, will He not help us with the sin issue? Won’t the Holy Spirit guide and direct us toward a righteous life? It is like the old saying, “Love God and do as you please.” If we truly love God, we will only do what honors Him. So today, let’s combat sin in our lives differently. Let’s resist sin by completely giving ourselves and everything we do and think today to God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today and surrender to Your control. Guide me, direct me, help me live the way You want me to. I give myself completely to You.
AMEN

Lord LORD

TODAY’S VERSE
So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?
Luke 6:46 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to speak half-truths. It is easy to say we are committed to a cause and yet not live that way. What exactly is loyalty? Jesus asked this in His day. People were beginning to follow Him just for the miracles or food rather than for the new spiritual reality He was teaching. What was worse, people said they were Christ’s followers but ignored His words. He compared this to a person who was building a house. Jesus insisted that if you build a house, build it on a good foundation. Likewise, if you are going to build a life worth living, it must be built on a good foundation of the teachings and person of Jesus Christ. Jesus was right. He said that you can call Him a lot of things, but if you are going to call Him Lord, you have to do what He says.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me follow You. Be the Lord of my life, and help me build my life on a solid foundation of Your word.
AMEN

Priority

TODAY’S VERSE
Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.
Luke 12:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse is very similar to another in which Jesus says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” At first glance it would be easy to conclude that we should not seek after the riches of this world. Certainly, Jesus was an example of a person with no materialistic yearnings. Yet if we reduce these verses to a simple anti-materialism message, we lose the real meaning. The point Jesus was making is that we need to make seeking after Him our first and most important priority. Many people who have acquired wealth will tell you that it is hard work and takes every ounce of concentration and energy. Jesus knew this. He knew the zeal and passion a person needs to succeed in business. He wants us to have that same, if not more, passion and zeal for knowing and serving Him. Today God calls us to know Him. Build a deep and rich relationship with Him. That is true wealth.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I have gotten my priorities all messed up. Lord, help me seek after You. I want knowing and loving You to be the premier desire of my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be On Guard

TODAY’S VERSE
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.
I Corinthians 16:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We each have our battles. Life can be hard. Struggles can cause our faith to falter, and we begin to live as those who have no hope at all. Paul knew what it was like to have troubles; he knew hardship and heartbreak. And so, when he was finishing writing his letter to the church in Corinth, he gave them one final admonition. Like a coach before the final play of the game, Paul rallies the church and tells them to be on their guard. He wanted them to watch out for the spiritual battle. He told them to stand firm in their faith, being courageous and strong. The good news is they did not have to do this on their own. This same Paul reminds us in another letter he wrote that we can do all things through Christ who empowers us. Today, call out to God for His power, and then be on your guard. Stand firm in your faith. Be courageous today and stay strong.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, You have said that I can do all things through You because You will empower me. Help me today to be on my guard against evil and temptation. Allow me to stand firm in my faith. Encourage me to be courageous in my behavior and to be strong in Your power.
AMEN

Compassion

TODAY’S VERSE
Then they will reply, “Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?”
And he will answer, “I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.”
Matthew 25:44-45 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I am amazed at the compassion that Jesus had for the needy. He was consistent in the way He lived. Matthew wrote of Jesus, “Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless.” So why are we surprised when we read that Jesus wants us to do the same? And He never said it any more potent than He did in today’s passage. Jesus told us if we don’t love the people around us, we really don’t love Him. Not just the lovable, but the seemingly least deserving. Jesus’ parable was practical and to the point. He made helping others with food, water, shelter, clothing, physical care, and visitation a priority. These are things that you and I can do. So today, decide to get involved. Volunteer as one of Christ’s compassionate followers and do the things that He did. The things He has commanded us to do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your mighty compassion. Help me to be the same way. Guide me and lead me in the kind of compassionate work You want me to do. Today, help me love others in the same way You love me.
AMEN

Two Sins

TODAY’S VERSE
My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Jeremiah 2:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Separation from God usually comes in two phases. First, we start to stray. Little by little, we start to forsake fellowship, fail to meditate in His word and spend less and less time in prayer. Good things take us from the more important. Urgent begins to replace the best. How subtle the path is. We end up farther and farther away from the spiritual milieu that once fed our soul. Second, we not only stray we actually find a new home. Jeremiah says not only do we forsake the spring of living water; we actually go out and dig our own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold any water. They look great on the outside but are empty on the inside. Where are you today? Are you straying farther and farther from God? Have you actually moved away and found other interests that take top priority in your life? Stop! Go no farther. Turn back. Come to your Heavenly Father today and ask Him to cleanse your heart and put a new thirst in your soul leading you back to His spring of living water.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for straying from You. I have forsaken Your living waters and have attempted to quench my own thirst. I admit that I am still thirsty. I know that only You can satisfy, and I ask Lord that You would fill my cup today with Your life-giving presence.
AMEN

What Really Matters

TODAY’S VERSE
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 17:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to get our priorities mixed up, isn’t it? We tend to put life into a box full of rules, regulations, and standards by which to measure ourselves. We must look a certain way, think a certain way, achieve certain levels of accomplishments, acquire the right kind of accessories. Then we come up with all sorts of core beliefs that sustain these rules. For example, we may believe, deep in our hearts, that if we don’t accomplish a certain goal, we will not be liked. If we don’t drive the right kind of car or live in the right kind of community, people will think little of us. Of course, these thoughts alone don’t motivate us, it is the perceived “terrible” consequences such as rejection, abandonment, punishment or worst, annihilation that frightens us to death and drives us to succeed at any cost. However, these “terrible” results are only in our mind! We will not die if certain people do not like us. We are not a “loser” if we do not live in the “right” house. Instead, Paul points out what we should really strive for. We should strive to live a good righteous life. We should seek joy and peace through the Holy Spirit. These are the important things in life. And best of all, these are freely given to any person who asks. He will not turn us away. It is His will that you live righteously, full of peace and joy through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. What do you want? Begin today to seek the things that really matter. Follow God, He will not disappoint.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know what is really important. You know that I have bought so many lies about success and self-worth. I need Your help to know the truth. So, please Lord, help me live a life of goodness today. Give me the joy and peace which comes from Your Holy Spirit. Help me live today in a way that is pleasing to you.
AMEN
