Word and Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.
Matthew 22:29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Oops! How many times has that happened? We live under a particular assumption, do all kinds of things, only to find out that we have it all wrong! Assumptions do that. They can lead us down the wrong road. A road full of wild emotions and deep regret. Not just assumptions, misguided beliefs can also take us on the wrong journey. So it was with those who were trying to debate Jesus and trick Him into contradicting their traditions. Two things Jesus pointed out were both mistakes. One, they did not know the scriptures. They thought they did. They knew the words but not the intentions. They knew the law but not the grace. They knew the letter but not the spirit. God’s intention has always been to bring life, love, and grace to humankind. If you do not know that, you do not know the scriptures. Secondly, they did not know the power of God. They knew the stories in the scriptures, but not the reality. They knew about God but not the power of God. They believed in death, but not in God’s power to give eternal life. Don’t make the same mistake. Today, choose to believe. Get to know the reality behind every page of the scriptures. Get to know God and all the power He has for your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me get to know You. Help the scriptures come alive in my life. Help me live in the power of Your resurrection. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Tell Others

TODAY’S VERSE
Sing about the glory of his name! Tell the world how glorious He is. – Come and see what our God has done what awesome miracles he performs for people!
Psalms 66:2, 5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things are hard to contain. We can’t wait to get to work to tell everyone how excited we were about a sporting event. If we liked a particular movie, we tell everyone how it brought us to tears. Anytime we win something, get a good deal, or come into some extra money, all our friends know about it. And why not? We should share those things that are meaningful in our lives. Then why isn’t it this way with God? Why are we so reluctant to share what God has done for us? The only reason I can think of is that nothing exciting is happening in our lives. We know about God, but there is no relevance to our everyday living. When we think about witnessing, we believe that we have to tell people “about” God, and most of us feel inadequate or are afraid of losing an argument. But witnessing the way God intended isn’t just sharing about God; it is sharing the excitement we feel because of what He is doing in our lives. God is loving us, providing for us, protecting us, and saving us. God is active, and when we are aware of it, it is natural to share with others all that is going on. God is busy in our lives, and all He wants us to do is show people where the action is. Today, look for God’s active presence in your life and praise Him for it. And then share the wonder with those around you. Peter said it this way, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for all that You are doing in my life. Help me be more aware of Your presence and the miracles You are doing all around me. Help me share with others all that You are doing, so they can have the same hope that I do. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Heal Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.
Mark 2:5 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus was in town. This group of men knew what that meant. They ran and got their paralyzed friend, put him on a cot, and came to the Savior. They heard that He could heal the sick, so they stepped out in faith. When they got to the house where Jesus was, they couldn’t get in. Undaunted, they cut a hole in the roof and lowered their friend into the room where Jesus was. Jesus was amazed at their faith, so He said, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Why did He say that? Didn’t Jesus see that the man was paralyzed? Of course, He did. But Jesus saw another kind of paralysis, the kind that cripples the soul. Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven,” because that is His first priority. To prove He could forgive sins, Jesus also said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”  Today, what has you paralyzed? Is it fear, anger, or debt? Perhaps it’s a crippling sin. Whatever it is, bring it to Jesus. Come to Him by faith and let Him minister to you.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, You know the needs I have. I come to You and ask for supernatural power to work in me. Help me, heal me, make me whole.
AMEN

A Simple Thing

TODAY’S VERSE
This is what the LORD says: This dry valley will be filled with pools of water! You will see neither wind nor rain, says the LORD, but this valley will be filled with water. You will have plenty for yourselves and your cattle and other animals. But this is only a simple thing for the LORD.
2 Kings 3:16-18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the faith of Elisha. He is telling everyone that God is going to do this mighty miracle. God was going to fill a desert with water, but He was going to do it without rain! And then Elisha adds, “But this is only a simple thing for the Lord.” Why are we so amazed by this kind of faith? Why do we so often vacillate between our own faith and unbelief? Most of the time, when I have doubts, it is because I do not know what God’s will is in a given situation. I seem to lack confidence in how to pray. Other times, it is simply a lack of faith. I need to remember what Elisha knew; miracles are not too hard for God. So how should you pray? You need to pray as God leads you. Elisha was close to God, and it was God’s Spirit that came upon him and led him to believe. Deep communion with God will do the same for you. You should seek direction from God and then ask Him for the mighty things He has shown you, with the assurance that nothing is too hard for God. So if a miracle does not happen, let it be due to the sovereignty of God, not because you did not believe or never asked. Today, seek God’s face in all matters and pray in faith, believing. Answering prayer is a simple thing for the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your mighty miracles. Help me to trust in You. Help me to commune with You and really know Your heart so I can pray in faith, believing.
AMEN

Do It Again, Lord!

TODAY’S VERSE
Give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.
Acts 4:29-35 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Is there any wonder why the Church grew so mightily in the first century? Men and women who had known Jesus Christ, who had experienced mighty miracles and had seen Jesus rise from the dead, were now filled with the Holy Spirit. They were on a mission to share God’s forgiveness and grace with everyone they could. How does today’s passage compare to your church or personal Christian experience? Erwin McManus, in his book, “The Barbarian Way,” writes, “Somehow Christianity has become a non-mystical religion. It is about reasonable faith. If we believe the right things, we are orthodox. Frankly, whether we ever actually connect to God or experience His undeniable presence has become incidental if not irrelevant.” Sadly, what McManus is saying is true. Today let us repent of our “reasonable faith” and join those in Acts asking God to fill us with His Spirit and give us boldness in sharing about Christ. Let us ask God for His healing power and miraculous signs and wonders. Finally, let us share with those in need, be united in our hearts and minds, and testify powerfully of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. May it be said of us that “God’s great blessing was upon them all.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive us for powerless orthodoxy. Forgive us for our lack of faith and sacrifice. We pray for holy boldness in our church. We pray for Your miraculous hand to come upon us and do mighty works. We pray for the unity of hearts and minds. Might the places we worship be shaken. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Everything You Need To Do God’s Will

TODAY’S VERSE
May He equip you with all you need to do His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.
Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isn’t it great that you do not have to live the Christian life alone? Isn’t it exciting that God is invested in you and your success in your Christian experience? Imagine a business person calling and saying they are giving you their successful company. Then they say, “Besides the business, I am going to give you all the staff, computers, equipment, and customers you need to be successful.” You would hang up the phone, jump up and down, and then tell everyone you know. How much more exciting is it that God has given you a Holy and eternal mission? More than that, God says He will produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him! God says He will equip you, not with a few things, but with ALL you need to do His will! So today, you can go about your day knowing that God’s will is already provided for everything you need to do. You can understand that God is more interested in producing every good thing that pleases Him in your life than you are. Rejoice; God, is committed to equipping you with everything you need to do His will. Truly, all glory goes to Him forever and ever!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your vital interest in me. Thank you for equipping me with everything I need to do Your will. Please produce in me every good thing that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Lord, Do It Again!

TODAY’S VERSE
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known.
Habakkuk 3:2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What if we read what God did in Acts and prayed the prayer that Habakkuk prayed? What do you think would happen to the church today? We read in the book of Acts that God did mighty miracles. People were moved by God to share all they have with others. God was speaking through His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit, resulting in people worldwide being saved. Oh, when we read Acts and all that God did in the early church might our hearts react like Habakkuk’s did in his day. Might we join him in saying, “LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day; in our time make them known.” Might this be the prayer of our hearts until the day God brings revival.

TODAY’S PRAYER
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of all you have done in the past. I pray, O LORD, please do the same in our day; in our time make your mighty power known. Along with Your power, use me and use Your church to bring Your love to a lost and dying world.
AMEN

A Little Faith Counts

TODAY’S VERSE
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’”
Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Faith can move mountains. But how much faith? Today’s passage reminds us that even the smallest amount of faith counts. It comforts me that Jesus was talking to people with very little faith and Not chiding them. Instead, He loves them. He says, “Because you have just a little faith let me encourage you!” He then uses the “mustard” seed to illustrate how even a “little” faith can be used. He chose the mustard seed because it was one of the smallest seeds he could find. In another passage, He said, “But when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree.” The seed was like a speck of dirt and yet Jesus insisted that even a little speck of faith can be used by God. He concludes, “Nothing will be impossible for you!” We need faith. When all seems hopeless we reach out in faith. When our back is up against the wall, we cry out in faith. When unsure of what to do, we step out in faith. As we do, God will be there. Don’t be discouraged with little faith. Simply plant it in today’s soil like a mustard seed and let God do the rest.

TODAY’S PRAYER
God, You know how feeble my faith can be. I am so glad that You can take it and use it. As You do, please help my faith grow so I may believe You for even greater things. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Blessing or the Blesser?

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”’
Luke 17:17-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to seek the blessing more than the blesser. There were ten lepers, all with the same putrefying disease. All with the same hopeless situation. Unless. Unless the Jesus that they heard about could really do miracles. Unless this Jesus was as compassionate as everyone said He was. They came to seek a blessing, and as Jesus came down the road, they received it. All ten were healed. But only one gave thanks to the blesser. He was the one that was touched in his body and his soul. He is the one who stopped to worship and give thanks. The nine came to get a blessing; the tenth met the blesser. How different are we? Is it possible that we have gotten so used to our faith that we are running on auto-pilot? We get our daily dose of blessing and go down the road as if nothing significant has happened. But let something go wrong. Then what do we scramble for? We cry out again like the leper for a blessing. But, it is not a blessing that we need. It is the blesser. It is Jesus, who loves us that we need to seek. We need to come to Him and let Him know our situation, then commune with Him and let Him guide us. He is what our soul requires. Today, let us commit our situation to God and come to Him, seeking the blesser, not the blessing. He is the blessing.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for being more worried about blessings than worship. Forgive me for taking You for granted. You are what my life needs. You are the blessing. Today, I choose to seek Your fellowship more than anything else. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Power And Majesty

TODAY’S VERSE
We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
II Peter 1:16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Bible makes it plain that there is a spiritual battle going on for the souls of mankind. It is more than good versus evil. Part of the satanic strategy is to confuse people about God’s plan. We are warned that Satan often comes as an “angel of light.” For centuries, fiction has imitated the Supernatural with fairytales, myths, and stories about people with magical powers. We are inundated with superheroes that imitate the supernatural. The subtle reality is that they plant a seed of doubt in believing the Bible is true. After all, a fairytale is make-believe, so why believe the stories told in the Scriptures? Even in his day, Peter knew this was happening. That is why he insisted that we understand that he and the other disciples were not following some clever, invented story. Instead, they were sharing what they witnessed. They experience firsthand the very power and majesty of Christ. Majesty is the splendor of character, greatness, authority, and sovereign power Christ exhibited in how He lived. What if you and I could say with Peter that we, too, were eyewitnesses of this same power and majesty today? We can, you know. We can experience the real, living Christ today, just like the disciples. Ask Christ if it is true. Go ahead. Talk to Him about His power and majesty. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Today, begin a deeper walk with Jesus. If you do, you too will join Peter and the millions of others who, through the centuries, have known His power and majesty.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You in all Your power and majesty. I want to be an eyewitness to the same kinds of things that Peter experienced. Help me believe. Increase my faith. Make Your supernatural presence a reality in my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
