TODAY’S VERSE
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.
Mark 2:5 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus was in town. This group of men knew what that meant. They ran and got their paralyzed friend, put him on a cot, and came to the Savior. They heard that He could heal the sick, so they stepped out in faith. When they got to the house where Jesus was, they couldn’t get in. Undaunted, they cut a hole in the roof and lowered their friend into the room where Jesus was. Jesus was amazed at their faith, so He said, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Why did He say that? Didn’t Jesus see that the man was paralyzed? Of course, He did. But Jesus saw another kind of paralysis, the kind that cripples the soul. Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven,” because that is His first priority. To prove He could forgive sins, Jesus also said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”  Today, what has you paralyzed? Is it fear, anger, or debt? Perhaps it’s a crippling sin. Whatever it is, bring it to Jesus. Come to Him by faith and let Him minister to you.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, You know the needs I have. I come to You and ask for supernatural power to work in me. Help me, heal me, make me whole.

Your Good Shepherd

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
Psalms 23:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David wrote this famous Psalm about God being our Heavenly Shepherd from experience. As a young man, he spent his time shepherding a flock of sheep for his father. He knew the value of a shepherd to the flock. He also knew the importance of knowing God. David knew that the shepherd provides all that the sheep need. He even knew that God, like a shepherd, lets us rest in green meadows, leads us beside peaceful streams, renews our strength, and guides us along the right path. Even in the darkest times, God is right there close by our side, comforting us. With God as our shepherd, David concludes that goodness and unfailing love will pursue us as long as we shall live. I love the concept of the shepherd; it is being a sheep that I struggle with. I struggle to surrender my will to God. But as my shepherd, God’s love cuts through my pride. His love compels me to live for Him. My Heavenly Shepherd’s love wins and woos my heart, helping me to surrender myself to His control. I can trust Him. I can lean on Him. I can be my needy self and know that God will care for me. Today, let God shepherd you. Commit yourself to Him and His loving care.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for all Your care. Thank You for all You provide and do for me. You are my Heavenly Shepherd, and I will gladly live for You.

What Do You See?

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Zephaniah 3:17 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you see? A lot of it depends on what you are looking through. Each of us comes to the Scriptures through different lenses. We see through our experiences, beliefs, senses, and personality. So, although scripture is true, we may have a skewed view of it. For example, in today’s verse, what do you believe? When you close your eyes, do you see God as a mighty one who will save you? Or do you have doubts about His ability or desire? Do you see God as rejoicing over you with gladness? Is He exulting over you with loud singing? Is He ecstatic in His love for you? Or do you struggle to feel like a recipient of that kind of attention from God? Finally, can you picture God quieting you with His love? Does the very thought of God bring peace to your heart? God’s word is true, but unless you read it and challenge your emotional thinking, you will not align your real beliefs with God’s. Today, ask God to help make His word clear to you and start to see what He has for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, as I read Your word, help me to see what You really want me to see and to believe it with all of my heart. In Jesus’ name.

TODAY’S VERSE
People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.
Proverbs 28:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a price to pay for concealing our sins. A guilty conscience can lead to a downward spiral of fear, anger, or shame. Unforgiveness can result in a bitter and hardened heart toward God. Soon, we find ourselves ignoring the tug of the Holy Spirit calling us to repentance. But for many of us, the thought of our sins is terrifying. Fear of abandonment, the need to please others, and a deep sense of shame keep us in denial. We rationalize our behavior; we minimize its significance; we blame others. We call it everything we can but sin. So we slowly die, day by day, our sins are hidden. At least from ourselves. Is the person who is in denial about their behavior fooling anyone? Is the one who is acting out in anger in danger of being mistaken for a saint? There is a way out. We need to lean on the love of God. We need to know that He will never leave us or turn His back on us. When we truly understand the love of God, then we trust Him and can ask Him to reveal our sins. He will bring about a conviction. His Spirit will lead us to confess our sins to God and turn from them. Why, because we will know we will receive His mercy. Today, talk to God. Ask Him to point out any sin in your life. When He does, confess it to God and receive His mercy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, show me my sins. I give You my fear and shame. I trust in Your love for me and do not want to be in any more denial. Show me my hidden sins so I can confess them in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
I Peter 5:7 (AMP)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why is it that we feel we need to minimize our pain? Where did we get the idea that we would become a burden to God? How did we come to believe that it is unspiritual to admit that we have been a victim of something awful? Abuse, violence, the death of a loved one, divorce, an unfortunate accident, incarceration, war. God cares when we have suffered as a result of something being done to us. And God cares when we have suffered from trauma as a result of something not happening. When love, safety, and security from those we trust are missing, we get trauma in the form of abandonment, unfaithfulness, embezzlement, betrayal, gossip, or neglect. And to pretend that we are not affected, and everything is okay is to only add to the damage that is already left in trauma’s wake. It is not spiritual to “tough it out.” It is spiritual to be healed. Peter is pleading with us to cast all of our cares onto Jesus. His whole book speaks about the suffering of Jesus and how He understands our suffering. And here, Peter assures us that Jesus “cares for you.” He cares for you with deep affection. Today, bring your pain to Jesus. Tell Him about your trauma. Ask Him to give you strength, forgiveness, peace, and a deep understanding of love. Ask Him to heal your broken heart; heal your deep wounds of grief and anger. Bring all of your cares. Cast them on Him and leave them there.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You. I come to You with all my burden, all my cares. You know my pain. You know my suffering. I bring it all to You. Heal my hurts. Heal my heart. Return me to joy, I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes we just need to be reminded. We get so busy, so crazy, so wrapped up in our world, we forget; we forget about God. And then in His mercy, He lets us come across a passage like the one today, and it calls us back to what is real, back to Him, and His love for us. The author reminds us that even though God made all of the universe and everything in it, He chose you and me to be the object of His love. The God of gods, Lord of lords, the Great God, mighty and awesome, chose you and me to be the object of His love. To truly know this and believe it changes everything. No wonder the author writes, “Change your heart and stop being stubborn.” Today, turn to God, acknowledge Him as Lord of your life, and thank Him for all His love, grace, and mercy toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord God, Almighty. I thank You for choosing me to be an object of Your love. Forgive me for taking that for granted. I come to You now and surrender my life to You, for You are the mighty and awesome God, worthy of all my praise and devotion.

TODAY’S VERSE
After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the LORD’s Temple and spread it out before the LORD. And Hezekiah prayed.
II Kings 19:14-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When you get bad news, what do you do? King Hezekiah was the King of Judah. The King of Assyria was mounting a campaign against the Jews, and God told Hezekiah not to worry, that He would take care of the nation. But with the same ploy that Satan used against Adam and Eve, the King of Assyria’s messenger told King Hezekiah, “Don’t let your God, in whom you trust, deceive you.” Satan’s strategy is to get us to doubt God. God loves you, don’t believe it. God will provide your needs; don’t believe it. God cares, don’t believe it. But I love Hezekiah’s response. After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, “he went up to the LORD’s Temple and spread it out before the LORD and prayed.” There is no better plan. There is nothing I could ever say that would be better than to take all your burdens, take all your cares, take all of your worries, and spread them out before God. Today, find a quiet place and meet with Him. Lay everything out before Him and pray. Talk to Him. Share your pain with Him. Listen to Him; let Him share with you His love and the truth about your situation. Take comfort in this: you are not deceived; you can trust God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You with all my worries and cares. I lay them before You. I trust You, dear Lord. Comfort me. Guide me. Protect me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.

Do It Again, Lord!

TODAY’S VERSE
Give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.
Acts 4:29-35 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Is there any wonder why the Church grew so mightily in the first century? Men and women who had known Jesus Christ, who had experienced mighty miracles and had seen Jesus rise from the dead, were now filled with the Holy Spirit. They were on a mission to share God’s forgiveness and grace with everyone they could. How does today’s passage compare to your church or personal Christian experience? Erwin McManus, in his book, “The Barbarian Way,” writes, “Somehow Christianity has become a non-mystical religion. It is about reasonable faith. If we believe the right things, we are orthodox. Frankly, whether we ever actually connect to God or experience His undeniable presence has become incidental if not irrelevant.” Sadly, what McManus is saying is true. Today let us repent of our “reasonable faith” and join those in Acts asking God to fill us with His Spirit and give us boldness in sharing about Christ. Let us ask God for His healing power and miraculous signs and wonders. Finally, let us share with those in need, be united in our hearts and minds, and testify powerfully of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. May it be said of us that “God’s great blessing was upon them all.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive us for powerless orthodoxy. Forgive us for our lack of faith and sacrifice. We pray for holy boldness in our church. We pray for Your miraculous hand to come upon us and do mighty works. We pray for the unity of hearts and minds. Might the places we worship be shaken. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Way Of Escape

TODAY’S VERSE
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
I Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How subtle sin can be. We begin to stray from the things of God, and soon our life takes a different course. Most people who end up in some sort of addiction or negative situation never intended to get there. They didn’t wake up one day and say, “I think I will go down a road that will ruin my life.” No, it was small little navigations that got them to the foreign shore. Likewise, in the life of a Christian, we don’t wake up one day and say, “I will be far from God.” It begins with missed opportunities for fellowship, a lack of discipline in prayer, Bible study, and meditation, and weekdays between church services, often without Christian influence. Little by little, we become more and more like the world around us and trade our Christian experience for a mask we wear on Sunday. What can we do? Thank God for the reality of what Paul shares in today’s passage. Paul reminds us that the temptations we face every day are the same as those of everyone else, but God is faithful and will show us a way out. On every descent away from God, there is a window of sanity. There is an opportunity to repent, to turn away from sin, and to return to God. The prodigal son found it. Peter found it. God enables us to “come to ourselves,” to come to our senses, and He does provide a way out. Today, if you find yourself far from where God wants you, ask yourself, “Who moved?” God didn’t. He loves you; turn around, there is a way of escape.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is so easy to wander from You. Forgive me. Help me escape today from all that entraps me. Help me break away from all that has taken my heart from You. I come to You now, dear Lord. Help me follow You.

TODAY’S VERSE
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Matthew 9:36-38 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Everyone has a story. Everyone hurts sometimes. If not now, wait. It is a hurting world. This is what Jesus saw. He saw the crowds, harassed and helpless. He compared them to lost sheep without a shepherd to protect them. And when Jesus saw them, He had compassion. Why? Because He was God incarnate! God in the flesh. All you have to do, to understand why Jesus reacted the way He did, is to read the Old Testament. God Jehovah had compassion for the poor and needy. Even in Proverbs, Solomon gives us instructions to help those in need. He writes, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” We are to defend the rights of the poor and needy. But you ask, “What can I do?” It starts with your willing heart. From your heart, it moves to your eyes. Next, it moves to your head, then your hands and feet. If you are willing to be used on behalf of those in need and ask God to help you help others, His love takes over. His compassion will be more than you could ever begin to contain. His miracles on behalf of needy people will be more than you can keep up with. God loves His human race, but He ordained His church to be His hands and feet. When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then, He called his disciples for help. Jesus is still calling! What will you do?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, there are so many needs, so many hurting and dying. Use me today, right here, right now, to make a difference in someone’s life. Help me see with Your eyes, love with Your heart, and move with Your power. In Jesus’ Name.
