Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping – Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this, he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.
Romans 4:10, 20-21(NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If there was ever a model for living the Christian life, it is Abraham. Look again at today’s verses. There is no better way to exemplify how we are to live. Abraham had an incredible relationship with God. He was totally immersed in faith. He did everything with God in mind. Look at what Paul writes, “Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping – Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise.” More than that, Paul writes that Abraham was “fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” Just like you and me, Abraham had choices to make every day. And he chose to trust God. He decided to put his faith and hope in Jehovah. What about you? Who are you going to trust? Who will you hope in? Who will you be counting on to do what He has promised? Today, choose to trust God in all you do. Put your faith and hope in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your power and majesty. Thank You for Your love for me. Today, I choose to put all my hope, trust, and faith in You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Thinking

TODAY’S VERSE
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
Romans 8:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“What were you thinking?” Have you ever had anyone ask you that? Usually, it’s after something goes wrong. There was a misjudgment, and your thinking has been questioned. But Paul is suggesting something different. He says we should be purposeful before we think and watch what we let dominate our minds. Paul indicates that it is either the Spirit of God or our sinful nature. What a world of difference the two mindsets have on our lives. The mind dominated by the sinful nature leads to sinful thinking and behavior. The mind controlled by the Spirit of God leads us to do what pleases the Spirit. Today, say “No” to the sinful nature with its temptation and lust. Instead, be controlled by the Holy Spirit

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to live my life for You. Let Your Holy Spirit control my thinking. I give You my mind; guide me, direct me, lead me into Your will.
AMEN

Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. – May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
II Peter 1:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love Peter’s faith in Christ. He went from a follower of Christ to an apostle. And in his eyes, Jesus went from an itinerant Rabbi to Messiah to his Savior and Lord. What was his secret? How did he grow in his knowledge and experience of Christ? It was God’s grace. The very favor of God was given to him so he could grow in the Lord. The same is given to you. God has poured His knowledge into your mind and heart through the person of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because He has chosen to be gracious toward you. Today, accept His Divine assistance. Invite God to “give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your grace. I need Your Holy Spirit to give me more and more grace and peace as I grow in my knowledge of You. Help me, guide me, instruct me, I pray.
AMEN

Transform Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we become Christians, God begins transforming our lives. His goal is to transform us into all He created us to be. He does this by renewing our minds. This is more than changing the way we think. It is also changing the way we feel. It includes those sensations that send us into mood swings or addictive behavior. God wants to change our negative beliefs and restructure our irrational thoughts. But how? How can God do this? He does this through His Holy Spirit. As we study His word, spend time in prayer, and listen to God, He will renew our minds. As we also spend time in fellowship with other believers and seek the counsel of other Godly men and women, He will transform us. It is through this continuous process that we mature into the person He wants us to be. Today, give yourself to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Submit yourself to the process of change and let Him transform you through the renewing of your mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your help in making me into the person You want me to be. Come, Holy Spirit; I give You my mind, my emotions, and my will. Guide me, lead me, and transform me, I pray.
AMEN

Run The Race

TODAY’S VERSE
And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I have run/walked over twenty-five thousand miles in my lifetime. Most of those miles were times of solitude, just the Lord and me. Much of it was spent in prayer, praying for my family and friends. I love running. But racing was different. I would arrive at a race, and the course would stretch over miles of terrain that I knew nothing about. The pace would be faster, and the distance often a lot longer than my daily journey. It was all about endurance. And just as the author of Hebrews suggests, I would pick out a runner ahead of me and pace myself. I would watch their moves, mimic their stride, and slowly catch up and pass them. I would picture myself being able to match and surpass their performance. But here, the author of Hebrews is talking about life. It is the ultimate challenge. It is an arduous journey that requires all the mental and spiritual strength we can muster. To run it with the necessary endurance, we need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. He knows the way. He has the pace. Though we will never catch Him, nevertheless, to run the race well, we must mimic Him. We do what He does, and being the champion that He is, He will get us safely to the finish line. Today, run with Jesus, let Him lead your way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, I am grateful that I don’t have to face life alone. I am so thankful that You are my Savior and that You are committed to getting me through this race of life. Help me keep my eyes on You.
AMEN

Love In Action

TODAY’S VERSE
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
I Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Now here is a list to live by. We like to think of love as a noun. Some pretty Valentine cards or songs we remember from our high school days. But love is a verb. It is love “in action.” Paul gives us a list that is unmistakable. Paul writes that love is patient, kind, not jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love does not demand its own way and does not get irritable or keep a record of wrongs. Love is not happy with injustice but rejoices in the truth. Finally, love has staying power. It never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and has endurance. Can you imagine what the world would be like if all of us lived by Paul’s definition of love? Today, let’s make a difference in our little part of the world. Let’s practice this kind of “love in action” wherever we go.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You are love, and by the power of Your Holy Spirit, You can help me love. Give me the courage, strength, and desire to love the way You do. Today, help me exemplify love in action. AMEN

Love God

TODAY’S VERSE
And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
According to Jesus, today’s verse is the greatest commandment given to us from God. All other commandments can be summed up in this request. But how do you love God with all your heart, soul, and strength? In “The Climate of Monastic Prayer,” Thomas Merton writes that we should have an “attitude or outlook of faith, openness, attention, reverence, expectation, supplication, trust, and joy.” Faith, the ability to trust God for everything we need. Openness, being transparent with God, sharing all our thoughts with Him. Attention, to focus on and attune ourselves to God and His presence in our lives. Reverence, living with deep respect for God. Expectation, living with that childlike confidence that He is our loving Father and will provide all we need. Supplication, a sincere and humble request to God to act on our behalf. Trust, a deep assurance that sends peace throughout our being, knowing that what God says, He will do. Joy, what we keep returning to every time we bring our painful emotions to Him. Today, love God with all your heart, soul, and strength through your faith, openness, attention, reverence, expectation, supplication, trust, and joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I love and worship You. How I desire to know you with all my heart, soul, and strength. Help me, Holy Spirit, to this end I pray.
AMEN

God’s Word

TODAY’S VERSE
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalms 119:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Insight, inspiration, hope, wisdom, confidence, direction, correction, all this and more are found in God’s word. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to take the scriptures and make them relevant to our lives. The Psalmist experienced this living word and knew that if He would learn it, meditate on it, and let it affect who he was, it would result in the kind of behavior that was pleasing to God. Today, we can have the same experience. Spend time in God’s word. Meditate on it. Listen to what God has to say and let His word take root deep within your heart. If you do, you will be able to say with the Psalmist, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, as I read Your word, help it sink deep into my heart. Help me hear You and understand how You want me to live. Inspire me, guide me, and empower me by Your word, I pray.
AMEN

Comfort Me

TODAY’S VERSE
God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
II Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Comfort. How often do we long for it? It is one of our greatest needs. Every day has its challenges. We find ourselves on an emotional roller coaster, constantly in need of regulating our emotions. We try all types of solutions, but to no avail. Only real comfort soothes us, consoles our broken hearts, and reassures us that all will be okay. Only comfort supports and encourages us in the face of conflict. Only comfort gives us relief in affliction and lasting consolation to our weary souls. But comfort is only as good as the comforter. It is no comfort when a dying man says, “Try my medicine.” A person who is lost is no comfort to someone else seeking directions. In today’s verse, we find that it is God who is our “merciful Father and source of all comfort.” It is God who comforts us in all our troubles. It is God and His love for us that returns us to joy. It is knowing Him, in all His majesty, that gives us hope and assurance. It is knowing that we are the objects of His unfailing love that makes Him the source of all our comfort. And with this comfort, we, in turn, can comfort others. Today, come to God. Bring all your burdens to Him. Give Him your emotions and let Him comfort you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am in great need of Your comfort. Only You can satisfy. Only Your love can bring what my soul needs. Comfort me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Thoughts

TODAY’S VERSE
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
II Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The battle is in our minds. Truth versus lies. False assumptions versus God’s promises. Negative predictions versus faith. Roots of bitterness, jealousy, fear, and shame versus the mind of Christ. And though God’s power can overcome all these strongholds, how much better if we never let negative thinking get that far. We can if we follow Paul’s advice. He asks us to “demolish arguments and every pretense that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” A stronghold begins with a simple negative thought. Then, instead of renouncing it, we make a subtle agreement with it. “God doesn’t care.” “I can’t do it.” We start to generalize using words like “never, always, and every.” Oh, not a stronghold yet, but if we don’t stop and start to disagree with the thought, what are we really doing? Soon, we begin to ruminate and start to build on the negativity. Before you know it, we have created a full-blown story. We have “set ourselves up against the knowledge of God.” God wants us to renounce and correct negative, unbiblical thinking. Today, commit your mind to God. Let His Holy Spirit guide your thoughts and align them with His Word.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your presence in my life. I commit my thinking to you. Holy Spirit rule in my mind. Help me know and believe Your truth so I can make all my thoughts obedient to Christ.
AMEN
