Sat, 16 May 2015 09:47:14 +0000https://dbatrain.wordpress.com/?p=518#comment-6146Quite an old post, but it perfectly clarifies what i was looking for. I’ve been self-studying RAC 12c and i needed a clear picture about the subtle differences between the installed component when playing with Grid on RAC and Grid for standalone database server. Combined to your post related to RAC clusterware stack, this is a must have. Thanks !

I didn’t mention the training requirement in my article because the intent was to point out differences between the legacy cross-release OCA-OCP upgrade paths and those provided by the 1Z0-034 and 1Z0-067 exams. The training requirement between the options is identical for a given release regardless of the path chosen. People who want to become an 11g or 12c OCP must take training that is acceptable to OU for that release regardless of the two-test option or the new exams.
The article was also not really about whether it was better to upgrade to 11g vs 12c, but rather the pros and cons of the legacy and new paths for a cross-release OCA-to-OCP transition regardless of the end release. The specific scenario that you suggest *would* make the 11g OCP upgrade more attractive. However, I submit that people who have taken 11g training acceptable for the OCP hands-on requirement, and who *want* to get their Oracle OCP DBA, but who have not yet done so are probably few and far between. In addition, the benefit comes not because of any aspect of the exams in question, but rather because of something specific to the certification candidate.

No. I don’t plan to create a blog post just about possibility that someone might misread those points. I have re-read the full post. While I see how is is possible to take the two sentences you have out of context and make them appear contradictory, I don’t think that it will be a common occurance. In particular, the sentences preceding the one you pulled out of the ‘Negative’ points make it clear that I am referring to one-for-one test prep times: “Exam candidates must be prepared to invest more time than they normally would for a single exam. If you typically allocate six weeks to prepare for a single exam, then you should plan to invest at least nine to ten weeks for these. Candidates that try to get by with their standard prep time are likely to find themselves in deep trouble on test day.”
The lead-in for the ‘Positive’ section explicitly references the fact that benefits mainly come from the fact that only as single exam is required rather than two: “As the grid shows, the traditional cross-release upgrade paths all require two exams. Most of the advantages of taking either 1Z0-034 or 1Z0-067 stem from consolidation to a single exam.” That plus an earlier portion of the sentence that you excerpted indicates that I am comparing the prep time for two exams to the prep time for a single exam (preceding text in brackets): “…[more topics than either of the individual exams in the legacy upgrade paths,] the fact that you can focus on a single exam has the potential to reduce the time spent preparing.”
Given what you pointed out, if I could go back in time, I’d change the ‘Positive’ sentence to read (new text in brackets): “While both 1Z0-034 and 1Z0-067 contain more topics than either of the individual exams in the legacy upgrade paths, the fact that you can focus on a single exam [rather than two] has the potential to reduce the [total] time spent preparing.” Absent a flux capacitor, I’ll hope that most people parsed the meaning I intended from the text.

I just saw this post and thought I would comment on the ‘contradiction’ you pointed out. It’s not, but I obviously was not at clear as I thought I had been. The total study time for either 1Z0-034 or 1Z0-067 should be less than the combined study time for the *two* exams they would be replacing. However, if an exam candidate allocates the same amount of study time for 034/067 that they normally would to a *single* exam, that will likely prove insufficient.
Put another way, candidates will need to allocate more time than they normally would for a single exam, but less than they would for two exams.

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 08:00:02 +0000https://dbatrain.wordpress.com/?p=917#comment-5636This discussion does leave out the required authorized training requirement. For people with 11g DBA OCA who take already taken 11g DBA OCP authorized training but do not have and for whatever reason would find it difficult to access/resource 12c DBA OCP authorized training (as needed in conjunction with 1z0-067 upgrade exam) then going via 11g DBA OCP to 12c DBA OCP may be the best choice. However 12g DBA OCP authorized training would be a better choice if possible!

The name change is just branding as database machine versions are not the same as the oracle software version.
The exam is the same but verified against X3.

Wed, 06 Mar 2013 15:08:09 +0000https://dbatrain.wordpress.com/?p=838#comment-3557I have a query on the 1Z1-027 certification…While in beta period, the exam was named “Oracle Exadata Database Machine Administration, Software Release 11.x”. However, when in Production, this exam has been renamed to “Oracle Exadata Database Machine X3 Administration”. Does this imply any differences or are there none (hopefully) – I cannot find any update on education.oracle.com or on the Certification blog suggesting the name change and whether that implies anything, for individuals who’ve taken the beta exam ! Would you know please ?
