‘I’m worried about Rover’s weight…’

After yet another long tedious day at the office, Jane turns the key of her front door to be greeted by the rank odour of stale cigarette smoke. The muffled sounds of the TV drift through the partly open door to her left. She closes the front door gently and makes her way to the kitchen at the back of the house. A scene of chaos comes into view; empty milk cartons, half eaten pieces of toast, an empty beer can in the sink with a fag butt squished into the top. The fridge door is open and the cat is eating something inside.
Leaving it to its own devices and still holding her heavy handbag she steels herself and makes her way to the living room. He’s had pizza for lunch, on her credit card, again…

‘Why can’t she think about others for once rather than herself, she’s such a bitch!; I mean I think about her all the time… and why was she so mean with the Chardonnay?, it’s not like she brought it or anything’.
‘She said she’s going to Syria didn’t she? No wait, Sydney- that’s it’. Syria’s really far away. Ice cream and sex, really? it must get really messy… I wonder what flavour’s best?’
‘Shopping will have to wait because of the meeting with John…he’s such an idiot- I hate him! I wonder if his reputation’s true? You can’t trust Candice, she just has it in for him’.

“Stop this thing” he shouted, but to no avail; the rushing, angry torrents sucked him ever closer to his impending doom. If only he hadn’t dropped that paddle… . He was always such a klutz as his mother kept reminding him. Why, of all times to balls something up, he had to do it now? He was in deep shit.

Slowly, slowly, step by step, one more project will be set…

They had driven through the night and needed to rest. Their yellow steel tent could be seen from miles away. It was dusty and uncomfortable but was welcome relief from the endless highway. The ants ended their fitful sleep; groggy and tired, they resumed their long journey.
