<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/tom-silvagni/">
Tom Silvagni</a>'s sentence. Dad died shortly after his employer,
the late
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/catholic-abuse/">
Cardinal Pell</a>, was sentenced to prison. The cardinal was subsequently
acquitted in his appeal to the High Court. Dad was a
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/australian-football/">
Carlton</a> supporter.
He would be turning in his grave at the thought that Stephen Silvagni's son
could be a rapist.</p>
<p>Suppression orders were lifted last week and the media have finally identified
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/tom-silvagni/">
Tom Silvagni</a> as the latest
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/australian-football/">
Australian football</a> personality to be convicted of abuse.</p>
<p>News reports were quick to comment on the fact the Silvagni brothers
all attended
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/xavier-college/">
Xavier College</a>, the elite Catholic boys school attended by my father and
I. As explained in a previous blog, after moving from Bendigo to Melbourne
for my final year of school,
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/prison-gate-backdrop-baptism-fr-sean-o-connell-st-pauls-coburg/">
I used to cycle from Pentridge Prison to Xavier College each day</a>
while Tom really is in prison for at least one Christmas and maybe more.</p>
<p>The alleged incident took place in January 2024. That appears to be four
years after Tom completed year 12. References to the school are therefore
not helpful in any specific way. In a general sense, all we can say is there
is a correlation between wealth and abuse, just as there is a correlation between
wealth and attendance at elite schools. But correlation is not causation. The
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/chanel-contos-consent-petition-palantir-google-connection/">
Chanel Contos "petition" about consent</a> demonstrated that incidents of this
nature were alleged to happen in every elite school of every denomination.
The Federal Court
<a href="https://www.fedcourt.gov.au/services/access-to-files-and-transcripts/online-files/dyer-v-chrysanthou">
published the Katharine Thornton Dossier about their former boss, the attorney general
Christian Porter</a>. In his case, it is alleged that abuse took place while he
was representing another elite school at the national debating contest. An
allegation against a student on an official school trip is far more severe
than an allegation against a former student.</p>
<h3>Silvagni background</h3>
<p>Tom had started a job as a player agent at Kapital Sports Management
shortly before the incident. The Wayback machine has captured images of Tom
with his colleagues as well as
<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240316090141/https://www.kapitalsports.com.au/our-team">
his profile</a>:</p>
<blockquote><em>Tom is a recently accredited AFL Player Agent and works closely with our team of experienced agents at the ground level. Tom has “lived” the industry through his family ties and is a great resource to Kapital given he has recently experienced playing in AFL pathways. Tom offers great perspective to the young draftees as they navigate the system and is a great relationship piece with our draft talent.</em></blockquote>
<h3>Polarizing and adversarial procedures are not solving abuse</h3>
<p>After the conviction was announced, the victim was invited to
make a unilateral victim impact statement. She used much of that
opportunity to direct her comments against Tom. She made little reference
to anybody else at the party and no reference to the cultural and legal
problems around abuse in Australia.</p>
<p>Shiannon Corcoron writes a
<a href="https://x.com/ShiannonC/status/1999349655214391690">
strongly man-hating piece about the trial</a>:</p>
<blockquote><em>was about how the rights of the wealthy and powerful can override the rights of the small, the weak, the vulnerable and the truth. This man-child ...</em></blockquote>
<p>As the accuser is anonymous, we do not know if she was small or weak.
The facts do confirm she was vulnerable at that particular moment in time:
she had gone to sleep in a bed with another man. She believed he would stay
the night. The other man left at 2am, leaving the complainant alone and
vulnerable.</p>
<p>The polarizing nature of these comments can be further exposed with reference
to a parallel case in the United Kingdom. On the same day as the judgment in
Melbourne, a British police officer failed in their appeal to overturn
dismissal for gross misconduct. In the British case, the attacker was not
a male police officer,
<a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cyvgmlm75gyo">
it was a female police officer, PC Pamela Pritchard</a>. While the police
sacked her, there is no mention of any criminal prosecution for her
actions.</p>
<p>Look at the women running around the world of open source software
encouraging people to gang up on each other:</p>
<video controls preload="auto" width="100%" height="531" data-setup="{}">
<source src="https://danielpocock.com/assets/froscon2019-push-others.mp4" type="video/mp4">
</video>
<p> </p>
<p>Comments like that are incredibly dangerous. In the world of football,
Tom may have seen the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/stephen-milne-consent-debian-code-of-conduct-invalid/">
way the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) handled the case against
Stephen Milne</a> and he may have felt that a <em>yes</em> to one man is
almost as good as a <em>yes</em> to both men.</p>
<p>Abuse is not about the offender's gender. It is about power, having
a gang on your side or just being incredibly drunk and stupid.</p>
<p>There are at least two sides to every story. Looking at the falsified
harassment claims in the world of open source software, I was able to find
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/inside-the-mind-of-gangster/">
internal emails manipulating journalists to repeat false
accusations against Dr Jacob Appelbaum</a>. If somebody was really abused, why
did they try to fight their battle through B-grade journalists rather than
going directly to the police?</p>
<p>One of the more notable examples in Australia was the wrongful persecution
of Alex Matters from the ALP.
<a href="https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/exlabor-party-staffer-cleared-of-sexual-assault-keen-to-take-legal-action-against-act-government-over-prosecution-that-destroyed-his-life/news-story/8e1f2e922f168f1d56b01e85a3262b34">
Sky News conducted an excellent interview with
Mr Matters about what it is like to be wrongly accused of abuse</a>.</p>
<p>Based on these cases, I feel it is wise to be very cautious when somebody
raises an accusation. It is important to listen and write down evidence
but it is foolish to repeat an accusation willy-nilly on
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/social-control-media/">
social control media</a>.</p>
<h3>The mental health defence</h3>
<p>Silvagni's lawyers argued that due to the high profile of his family
and his young age, he would be at unreasonable risk of self-harm or suicide
if the story of the trial was published by the media. On this basis, the
entire trial was conducted in secret and his identity only revealed after
he was convicted.</p>
<p>There have been vast discussions about privacy, censorship and the credibility
of mental health concerns.</p>
<p>Research into the mental health issue suggests that everybody in
proximity to bullying and persecution, including family members, team mates,
Carlton fans, friends of Tom's mum and Xavier alumni are going to collectively
suffer some stress due to the public denunciation of the Silvagni family.</p>
<p>Take a moment to think about Tom's brothers and their families.</p>
<p>Ben was
<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13786107/Snezana-Wood-daughter-Eve-Ben-Silvagni-Instagram-official-New-York.html">
dating Eve Markoski-Wood</a>. Eve's biological father, inconveniently named
<em>Rapoff</em>, was
<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3223398/The-Bachelor-Australia-s-Snezana-Markoski-s-ex-husband-Jason-Rapoff-reveals-dark-past-drugs-jail-time.html">
convicted and jailed on drug offences</a>. Eve's mother is a reality TV star
and Eve uses the name
of her step-father. It looks like Eve
<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-14647539/Bachelor-star-Snezana-Wood-daughter-Eve-confirms-split-boyfriend.html">
broke off the relationship with Ben
shortly after the charges were officially declared</a>. Britain's Daily Mail
tabloid speculated that the "tyranny of distance" had forced them apart but now
we know the real reason.</p>
<p>Jack had a very successful few years playing for Carlton. He arrived
in the club at the same time as Grace Phillips took up a role as a
social media intern. Grace was fortunate to strike up a relationship
with her new colleague, the star recruit and son of one of the club
legends.
<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12658711/Carlton-Jack-Silvagni-married-Grace-Phillips.html">They married in 2023</a> and not long after,
<a href="https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/jack-and-grace-silvagni-welcome-first-son-into-famous-carlton-family-c-16151945">
in 2024 they had a baby son, Charlie</a>. How is the child going to feel when it
arrives for its first day at school and some other five year old
asks about uncle Tom?</p>
<p>Tom's girlfriend,
<a href="https://au.linkedin.com/in/alannah-iaconis-a1b499264">
Alannah Iocanis</a>, who was a friend of the accuser, is also one of these
influencer/model personalities in the world of
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/social-control-media/">
social control media</a>. With her boyfriend in jail, will other celebrities
be willing to date her? Will she be able to maintain the influencer/model
lifestyle or will she have to get a job in a supermarket or coffee shop?</p>
<p>Alannah was chosen as
<a href="https://toyboxaustralia.grassrootz.com/miss-universe-australia-2025/alannah-iaconis">
a finalist in Miss Universe Australia 2025</a> even while her boyfriend was
on trial for rape. Many pages about her participation have vanished as
news got around.</p>
<p>Alannah's model agency, KHOO, has
<a href="https://www.khoomanagement.com/now-representing/all/2875376/alannah-iaconis">
removed her profile</a>.</p>
<h3>Media is self-censoring even after suppression order lifted</h3>
<p>Many of the media reports do not mention the names of the other
people attending the party. It is vital to understand that Anthony Lo Giudice,
the other man who had been in the room with the girl was a close relative of
the Carlton football club president, Mark Lo Giudice. At the same time, it is
important to understand that Tom's father, one of the legends of Carlton, had
<a href="https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/no-longer-on-speaking-terms-new-details-of-afl-legends-bitter-split-from-club/news-story/d55276d7686199b74cccc30337b7f3cf">
been refusing to speak to Mark Lo Giudice for a number of years</a>.</p>
<p>Channel 7
<a href="https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/new-details-emerge-in-tom-silvagni-rape-case-as-victim-issues-powerful-statement-day-after-jail-sentence-c-21043060">
report about Anthony Lo Giudice and the sequence of events</a> and
<a href="https://au.linkedin.com/in/anthony-lo-giudice-396453202">
Anthony's LinkedIn</a>.</p>
<p>When the reader is aware of all these challenging relationships, they can
begin to contemplate the possibility that people have had a role in
manipulating the girl or manipulating Tom or manipulating both of
them to create a crisis.</p>
<p>Tom's girlfriend, Alannah Iocanis, had invited the victim to the
four-way party and she arrived after midnight. Tom's best friend was
having an open relationship with the victim. Think of the film
<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0139134/">
Cruel Intentions</a> from 1999. It remains a masterpiece of this genre.</p>
<h3>The role of technology</h3>
<p>Within minutes of the alleged abuse, the victim had used her mobile
phone to alert multiple people that she was an abuse victim. Being only
nineteen years old, she may not have realized the extent to which these
text messages would change her life. The identities of abuse victims can't
be published by the press in Australia, nonetheless, her name has been
shared widely between people in her circle of friends, people she thought
she could trust and the football clubs concerned.</p>
<p>Without a mobile phone, she may have had time to think about her response
to the situation. Once she had gone down the path of telling multiple people,
she was unable to turn back.</p>
<h3>Deception and rape go together, from Chateau Silvagni to the FSFE & Debian lies</h3>
<p>News reports were quick to emphasize that Tom is accused of using deception
to gain access to the sleeping nineteen year old. He has admitted using
deception, a falsified Uber receipt, to obfuscate the identities of those
really in the house at the time of the alleged abuse.</p>
<p>I suspect many people would feel a sense of shock if accused of abuse
and some may be tempted to put up barriers to protect themselves. The trial
of Tom Silvagni found that his response was not merely a spontaneous
lie made up on the spur of the moment, it was a co-ordinated deception
involving at least one other person and a forged document.</p>
<blockquote><em>During the nearly 10-day trial, Crown prosecutor Jeremy McWilliams told jurors the rapes were committed 'not through threats, not through force… but through deception,' with Silvagni impersonating his friend to trick the woman.</em></blockquote>
<p>In Debianism, the former leader sent
<a href="https://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2018/12/msg00021.html">
this email</a> in December 2018:</p>
<blockquote><em>You are well-aware that I
have been nothing but scrupulous and gentlemanly with regards to your
personal privacy and thus I would refuse to cite any outside or
otherwise offer any objective rebuttals to your claims on a public
forum.</em></blockquote>
<p>Yet records show he had spent much of 2018 sending defamatory emails behind
my back at a time when I lost two family members. Nothing could be a more
hideous violation of privacy.</p>
<p>We've seen similar extremes as
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/matthias-kirschner/">
Matthias Kirschner</a> uses the name FSFE to impersonate the real FSF in Boston.
In a previous blog, I compared the FSFE
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/nigerian-fraud-in-fsfe-constitution/">
to a Nigerian 911 scam</a>.</p>
<p>Tom Silvagni is accused of using deception/impersonation to procure
sex with one of his best friend's girlfriends. Chris Lamb and
Matthias Kirschner used deception on a similar scale to procure
victims' work while pretending to be independent voluntary organizations.
In the latter case, we saw victims killed themselves in the
Debian suicide cluster.
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/adrian-diana-von-bidder-senn-debian-detailed-history-death/">
One victim died on our wedding day</a>.</p> After the recent abuse judgment, today we will find out about Tom Silvagni's sentence. Dad died shortly after his employer, the late Cardinal Pell, was sentenced to prison. The cardinal was subsequently acquitted in his appeal to the High Court. Dad was a Carlton supporter. He would be turning in his grave at the thought that Stephen Silvagni's son could be a rapist. <p>The Brisbane Lions may have won the 2025 premiership but the city of
Lyon, France has had a grip on the Lion theme for so long that nobody
quite remembers how or why it came about.</p>
<p>On 8 November 2025, the city's Lions and Lionesses (
<em>francais: Lionnes</em>) of
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/australian-football/">
Australian rules football</a> faced off against the Dockers of Bayonne.</p>
<p>This is the first time I recorded a football match with my camera.
I have a LiFePO4 battery for
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/amateur-radio/">
amateur radio</a> and I joined it with an inverter to run my DSLR
camera for the entire afternoon.</p>
<p>The French teams play nine-per-side on a rugby pitch. The vast
majority of participants are local and Australians are few and far
between. The French have well and truly taken ownership of our game.
The scoreboard for the women's team shows us the <em>Lionnes</em> share
more than a name with the Australian premiership winners. They have the
roar too.</p>

well known in France for his commitment to the sanctity
of human life. <a href="https://reseauvie.fr">Le Réseau Vie</a> is the
French
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/catholic/">
Catholic</a> Pro-Life association.</p>
<p>In the news, we typically see the pro-life debate characterised by
the highly emotional conflict about abortion.</p>
<p>In fact, the <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/catholic/">
Catholic</a> attitude to abortion is part of a bigger picture
that provides a coherent rebuttal of everything from euthanasia to
the death penalty and war.</p>
<p>Moreover, it is a way of thinking that has evolved over almost
two thousand years of Christianity. Mgr Rey's recent seminar in Lyon,
like his books, was not limited to the theme of abortion.</p>
<p>I posed a question about the risks of
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/artificial-intelligence/">
artificial intelligence</a> making life-and-death decisions and Mgr Rey
was immediately willing to answer that at length.</p>
<p>Regardless of how people feel about feminism and abortion, I feel it
is important to respect the role the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/catholic/">
Catholic Church</a> plays keeping us from going down a slippery slope.</p>
<p>The reality is, the science that we have today is not adequate to tell
us when life really begins. Moreover, we don't even have a perfect
scientific definition of what <em>life</em> really means. If there is
a credible possibility that life begins at conception, we shouldn't risk
making a mistake about that.</p>
<p>The
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/catholic/">
Catholic Church</a> does not ask us to believe in the Easter Bunny
or Santa Claus. They do ask us to believe in the possibility that life
begins at conception. Even for those who don't believe that, it seems
like a reasonable thing to double check. When an aircraft is about to
depart, the crew have to count how many lives are aboard the plane and
they have to count more than once to be sure.</p>
<p>Whether we identify as pro-life or pro-choice, we need to consider
the possibility that one side or the other is tricking us, just as in
any other
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/social-engineering/">
social engineering attack scenario</a>. Is the church tricking us
to believe life begins earlier than it really does? Or is the
pro-choice lobby tricking women to believe their bun in the oven is
<em>not</em> alive, using a false promise of female empowerment?</p>
<p>The vast empires of
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/social-control-media/">
social media barons</a> are built and controlled almost entirely by men.
Their number one tactic for tricking women to submit all their data
and communications to male surveillance is by
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/who-predicted-elon-musk-twitter-acquisition-2018/">
giving women a false sense of empowerment</a>.
The pro-choice lobby endears themselves to women with the same narratives.</p>
<p>In the end, there are women who regretted having an abortion and
there are women who came to regret giving all their data to
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/social-control-media/">
social control media</a>.</p>
<p>In my
<a href="https://juristgate.com/en/">
JuristGate reports</a>, I look at how customers were tricked by our
own lawyers. It is not hard to imagine that some people take their own
life after being tricked like that.</p>
<p>In the most compelling case of trickery, I've examined how
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/adrian-von-bidder-cmot/">
Adrian von Bidder-Senn</a> died, age 32, on the same day as our wedding.
It was Palm Sunday. By going over all the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/debianism/">
Debianism</a>-related deaths, we find the whole
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/ultimate-judgment-debian-suicide-cluster/">
Debian suicide cluster</a>. Based on the things written by
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/frans-pop-fjp/">
Frans Pop</a>, I can't ignore the feeling that he felt tricked when he
died. When we traced the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/ultimate-judgment-debian-suicide-cluster/">
Debian suicide cluster</a> right back to its origins, we find the first
death
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/joel-klecker-espy/">
Joel "Espy" Klecker</a> occurred in the US State of Oregon
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/euthanasia-legacy-debian-suicide-cluster/">
immediately after the high-profile legalisation of euthanasia</a>.
Moreover, the writings of Klecker show us that he was also
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/jonathan-carter-debian-betrayed-joel-espy-klecker/">
tricked by the promise of a philosophy that our peers used to deceive us</a>.
</p>
<p>Australian Doctor John Billings is well known for creating the
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billings_ovulation_method">
Billings Ovulation Method</a>. The method allows women to understand
when they are fertile and when they are not fertile from one day to the next.
Therefore, the same method can be used either for the goal of becoming
pregnant or for a contraceptive purpose. In that sense, it is the
only contraceptive technique that has ever been approved by the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/catholic/">
Catholic Church</a>. Coincidentally, Dr Billings, my father and I
were all at the same Catholic school,
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/xavier-college/">
Xavier College, Melbourne</a> at different times.</p>

social engineering attacks</a>. There appears to be no better proof of
this phenomena than the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/gnome/">
GNOME Foundation</a> today.</p>
<p>We've all just been told that
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/rosanna-yuen-zana/">
Rosanna Yuen (zana)</a> has been made redundant after twenty years
of service.</p>
<p>It looks like the board elections were a giant trick. If they don't
like the person you vote for, the controlling corporations can simply
use the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/gnome/">
GNOME</a> web site to libel that person, as they did with
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/sonny-piers-gnome/">
Sonny Piers</a>.</p>
<p>For
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/fosdem/">
FOSDEM</a> this year, I published a report demonstrating that
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/arrested-albanian-outreach-whistleblowers-sonny-piers-gnome-debian-connections/">
the GNOME budget is a trick</a>. The report was loaded with major
revelations, including the fact the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/arrested-albanian-outreach-whistleblowers-sonny-piers-gnome-debian-connections/">
Swiss police</a> had been suspicious of the two Albanian GNOME women
and arrested them at Zurich airport. Yet the most relevant thing
to note from that report is the fact they had secretly put the
second Albanian woman, who is also one of the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/albanian-female-whistleblowers/">
Albanian female whistleblowers</a>,
onto the GNOME payroll. They didn't tell us when they really started
giving money to this woman.</p>
<p>Immediately after
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/arrested-albanian-outreach-whistleblowers-sonny-piers-gnome-debian-connections/">
the evidence</a>
was published, they removed the woman from the GNOME web site again.
Here it is, before and after:</p>
<p>18 March 2025: <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20250318231657/https://foundation.gnome.org/team/">Anisa Kuci in the staff list</a></p>
<p>28 March 2025: <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20250328085932/https://foundation.gnome.org/team/">Anisa Kuci hidden from staff list</a></p>
<p>Now look at Rosanna's
<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20251106075620/https://blogs.gnome.org/zana/2025/11/04/farewell-to-these-but-not-adieu/">
resignation blog post</a>:</p>
<blockquote><em>
I am also grateful for the folks on staff that have made GNOME such a wonderful place to work through the years. ... And, of course, the current staff of <b>Anisa</b>, Bart, and Kristi, in whose hands I know the Foundation will keep thriving.
</em></blockquote>
<p>She admits that Anisa is still getting paid, nine months after being
removed from the team list on the web site.</p>
<p>Any time this woman is given a job now, people look around to see if
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/debian-security-advisory-dsa-lovestruck-leaders/">
lovestruck Chris Lamb</a> or somebody else from the DebConf dinner table is in
proximity to the hiring process. Debian has spent over
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/how-much-does-google-pay-to-destroy-a-man-and-his-family/">
$120,000 in legal fees to stop me publishing evidence about the relationships
on <em>debian.news</em></a>. The same evidence is still appearing on
<a href="https://deb.news"><em>deb.news</em></a> and other web sites.
The legal bill to cover up the relationships and
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/ultimate-judgment-debian-suicide-cluster/">
Debian suicide cluster</a> may be more than the total
redundancy payment given to
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/rosanna-yuen-zana/">
Rosanna Yuen</a> at the end of twenty years of service.</p>
<p>In Albania, young female students typically earn between ten and
twenty euros per day to work as a waitress or shop assistant. It is
widely rumoured that some of the female students in photos from
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/oscal/">
the Albanian OSCAL conferences</a> were paid to be there. In other words,
we were tricked to believe the women were all volunteers.</p>
<p>Now we see the same phenomena in larger open source organizations:
they don't officially include some women on the public list of staff,
so we are tricked to believe she is a female volunteer.</p>
<p>On 4 November 2025, at 17:21 UTC,
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/allan-day-gnome/">
Allan Day</a> used his GNOME blog account to publish a
<a href="https://blogs.gnome.org/aday/2025/11/04/thanks-to-rosanna/">
statement on Rosanna Yuen's redundancy</a>.</p>
<p>Twenty three minutes later, Rosanna's GNOME blog account was used
<a href="https://blogs.gnome.org/zana/2025/11/04/farewell-to-these-but-not-adieu/">
to publish an announcement about her redundancy</a>.</p>
<p>Before looking any more closely at what is in these two blog posts,
we need to ask: does the simultaneous release of these two blog posts
suggest anything? For example, was Rosanna's blog post written for her
or was it subject to editorial control before it went live?</p>
<p>Both blog posts tell us that
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/rosanna-yuen-zana/">
Rosanna Yuen</a> has been at
GNOME for almost twenty years and she has been made redundant with a
week's notice. We need to wonder why she is writing her final blog post
in such an amicable way. Was it written for her, have the controlling
corporations helped her find another job elsewhere or are they giving
her a large redundancy payment to keep her on good terms?</p>
<p>When thinking about that, it is worth remembering
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/rosanna-yuen-zana/">
Rosanna Yuen</a> has been present throughout the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/arrested-albanian-outreach-whistleblowers-sonny-piers-gnome-debian-connections/">
Sonny Piers scandal</a> and many other incidents over the years. As she
was responsible for finance, she knows the identities of all the donors,
the amounts they are contributing and the amounts they are paying
people.</p>
<p>A tactical dump of GNOME's financial data would create a feeding frenzy
in the community. I suspect the redundancy has been smoothed in
some way to mitigate that risk. Therefore, when we read the blog that
was purportedly written by Rosanna herself, we need to imagine that she
is writing it in a favourable manner because she has been given a strong
incentive that the rest of us can't see.</p>
<p>GNOME has published the names of their sponsors, the controlling
corporations, from time to time. It is clear these companies have
very deep pockets. If they wanted Rosanna to stay, they would have
found the money to top up the GNOME budget. Therefore, the claim that
Rosanna was removed because of a mysterious and unexpected budget shortfall
is another trick. Rosanna's removal and replacement with lower paid offshore
admin workers in Albania appears to be part of a plan that was a long
time in the making. Eventually, the Albanian women will be removed
too and somebody else will replace them.</p>
<p>If there really was a budget problem, why don't we see other staff
actively looking for other jobs?</p>
<p>People curious about the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/arrested-albanian-outreach-whistleblowers-sonny-piers-gnome-debian-connections/">
Sonny Piers scandal</a> need to keep asking for the truth. The
two women who won tickets to fly from Albania to DebConf19 in Brazil,
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/debian-security-advisory-dsa-lovestruck-leaders/">
sat closest to Chris Lamb</a> at the conference dinner, have been given
a series of jobs in a series of organizations. Is that because of a simple
explanation like
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/recognizing-relationships-false-accusations-gsoc-outreachy/">
Outreachy dating</a> or is it because they know the real reason
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/whistleblowers-open-labs-hackerspace-albania-gnome-wikipedia-openstreetmap-debian/">
the Albanian group had to be shut down</a>?
Which subgroup of
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/gnome/">
GNOME</a> board members
have the power to facilitate a jobs-for-silence arrangement like that
behind the back of everybody else?</p>
<p>GNOME Foundation
<a href="https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Board/-/blob/main/board-minutes/2025-02-11.md">
board meeting minutes</a> after FOSDEM 2025 tell us that people have
been asking
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/karen-sandler/">
Karen Sandler</a> to answer these questions.</p>
<blockquote><em>

<p>...</p>
<p>A lot of people approached Karen to ask about what had happened with Sonny</p>
<p>...</p>
<h3>Executive session opening</h3>
<p>The board entered into executive session at 17:34 UTC.</p>
<h3>Executive session close</h3>
<p>The board exited executive session ac 19:10. UTC</p>
</em></blockquote>
<p>It is important for people to ask the question in written forums
that can't be censored by the misfits.
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/gnome/">
GNOME</a> has been using the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/mailing-lists-vs-discourse-forums-open-source-community-or-commodity/">
Discourse forum software</a> for some time and that makes it very
easy for the misfits to modify questions and responses. Few participants
have enabled Discourse email mode so few people have evidence of what was
really asked in previous discussions. People can use the mailing lists
of related projects, such as the
<a href="https://lists.debian.org/debian-project/">
debian-project mailing list</a>, to discuss the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/gnome/">
GNOME</a> scandal and ask if key GNOMEists are going to honour
the compact of transparency.</p>
<p>Another odd coincidence: <em>Lufthansa</em> has a large call center
in Tirana, Albania and at least one of the two Albanian women has also worked
there. In another blog, I looked at how
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/lufthansa-modern-slavery-joerg-jaspert-debian-nsb-entwickler-charade/">
Joerg Jaspert, one of the Debian Account Managers, appears to be a disguised
employee of Lufthansa</a>.</p>
<p>Why was
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/sonny-piers-gnome/">
Sonny Piers</a> attacked in 2024? Because he realized they are tricking
us and he dared to ask questions about it. In groups like this, there
are certain expenses the board members are not supposed to ask questions about.</p>

Adrian & Diana von Bidder-Senn, Debian: detailed history of a death 2025-11-07T15:00:00+00:00 2025-11-07T15:00:00+00:00 https://danielpocock.com/en/adrian-diana-von-bidder-senn-debian-detailed-history-death <p>
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/adrian-von-bidder-cmot/">
Adrian von Bidder-Senn</a> died on our wedding day.
A death like that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. People remember
it every year on the same day.</p>
<p>In 2010 I went to work on a short term contract in Zurich.
At the end of the contract, I left,
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/assets/ubs-reference.pdf">
UBS provided a reference</a>, that was it.
Selfish people spread rumours about my family, they even spread
rumours about our black cats. It is extraordinary racism, does the
colour of a cat make any difference to anything whatsoever?
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/swiss-harassment-judgment-poor-behavior-black-cats-debian-gossip/">
In Zurich, it seems so</a>.</p>
<p>Personally, I don't waste time with people like that. Even with
ten thousand francs in compensation, that type of Swiss behaviour issue
isn't worth the trouble.</p>
<p>I left Zurich years ago. Yet more than eight years after I left Zurich,
people stalk my family, they want to make us suffer for no reason other
than their own selfishness.</p>
<p>That says something about certain Swiss people. It brings
my thoughts back to the question: why did
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/adrian-von-bidder-cmot/">
Adrian von Bidder-Senn</a> die in Basel on our wedding day? Following
on from that, why was my family subject to fourteen years of undignifying
treatment after he died?</p>
<p>I went through the process of becoming a Swiss citizen myself. From
when I first worked on a contract at UBS in 2010, I always thought
privacy was a standard thing in Switzerland.</p>
<p>The obligation to privacy and respect only works when it is mutual.
If some freeloaders who never paid anything for my work can spread rumours
about my family, if the tribunals and the police don't have any safety
mechanisms to prevent selfish people spreading gossip about us, why should I
care about the privacy of the next person?</p>
<p>In February 2022, somebody leaked extensive details about
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suisse_secrets">
the clients of Credit Suisse</a>. The bank went from being one of Switzerland's
top two banks to oblivion within a year. Personally, I never leaked or
compromised any private data from a client or employer. I never worked
for Credit Suisse. Nonetheless, based on the way my own family was
harassed by racist people, I couldn't help wondering, did the Credit Suisse
leak come about because some selfish Swiss woman started rumours about one of
the many foreign IT workers in the banks there?</p>
<p>People ask me questions about the gossip experiments almost every day.
That puts me in a position where I have to publish the evidence so people can read
it for themselves. Look at who died, when they died and how they died.
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/psychiatrist-occupational-therapist-debian-toxic-culture-recognized-before-suicides-germanwings/">
Look at how the group even admitted they needed a psychiatrist to help
them examine their toxic culture</a>.</p>
<p>None of the information I published about any of the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/recognizing-relationships-false-accusations-gsoc-outreachy/">
intern relationships</a> or the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/ultimate-judgment-debian-suicide-cluster/">
Debian suicide cluster</a> was published spontaneously. Various people
began spreading rumours as early as 2012. The FSFE Fellowship
<a href="https://nazi.compare/en/2024/04/24/daniel-pocock-elected-on-anzac-day-easter-rising-fsfe-fellowship/">
elected me on 25 April, ANZAC day in 2017</a> and the gossip campaigns
against my family intensified at that point.</p>
<p>It is a good idea to look at the people who committed
suicide and ask if somebody spread rumours about them too.
Did somebody try to use a lawyer to make them work for free?
Did somebody spread a rumour about them dating their intern?
Did somebody spread a rumour about their black cat?</p>

is some irony here as a lot of the subsequent fights in Debian

<blockquote><em>
<h3>The new coordinator</h3>
<p>Mother, housewife, middle school teacher, churchwarden, catechist, or district councilor—I juggled these terms whenever I had to state my profession before June 2, 1999. After two months of uncertainty and frustration over missing the cantonal parliamentary elections in March of that year, I was overjoyed when <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/marie-louise-bohny-schuler/">Marie-Louise</a> called on June 3 and told me I could work as a coordinator for AMICA Switzerland.</p>
<p>As a long-time member of Amnesty International, ACAT (Action of Christians for the Abolition of Torture), and Friedensbrugg, I have always tried to advocate for people who could no longer defend themselves or were otherwise subjected to injustice.</p>
<p>I grew up in Basel and, lacking an apartment in the city, started a family in Binningen with primary school teacher <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/urs-von-bidder/">Urs von Bidder</a>. When we were blessed with two children, Adrian and Sylvia, I stopped teaching mathematics at the Basel DMS (Department of Mathematics). In the evenings, I attended adult catechism courses, first as a participant, later often as a co-leader. This sparked my growing interest in theology, which is why I was also active in the church council for several years.</p>
<p>For the past four years, I have learned a great deal in cantonal politics. As president of the Education and Culture Commission, I had the opportunity to delve into many fascinating topics that also deeply interested me personally. Nevertheless, I am now pleased to be able to work with the board in a group where everyone shares the same goal:</p>
<p>To create a new future for women and children in Bosnia. I hope you, dear reader, will support us in this endeavor.</p>

Subject: Letter to the editor regarding “Women's advancement - an attempt at critique”
Thank you so much, Matthias, for this article – you've hit the nail on the head! I think the fundamental problem is that most people have a distorted view of computer science (and therefore also of studying computer science). If we could correct this image, for example through good computer science instruction in secondary school, then more people with a better understanding of the field would pursue a computer science degree. I dare say this would increase the proportion of women and reduce the failure and dropout rates. The goal of the Department of Computer Science should be to have as many (good) graduates as possible, which isn't achieved by simply having as many beginners as possible. The high failure rates of recent years don't surprise me when you see the attitudes people bring to their studies. So, instead of focusing on promoting women, how about promoting computer science itself (in the sense of finally helping people develop a more accurate perception of it)? This would kill two birds with one stone: fewer people (especially men) starting their studies with false expectations and dropping out, and more people who know what they're getting into and see it through. This would lead to higher proportions of women and, hopefully, lower dropout rates, resulting in more (good) graduates. I think this should be the goal of everyone at the Department of Computer Science.
Finally, I'd just like to mention that I've never encountered any problems or rejection because of my choice of major. I see no problem with studying computer science as a woman!

Diana's</a> comments are very relevant to the problems with women in
open source software to this very day. Look at how much money was
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/outreachy/">
spent on the women from Albania</a>. I do not see any of them producing packages
for Debian.</p>
<p>The same magazine includes an article from
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/crypto-ag-tricked-eth-zurich-student-internship/">

We subsequently learnt that
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/crypto-ag-switzerland/">
Crypto AG</a> was a front for the CIA and the German BND.</p>
<p>Remember,

fake FSF</a> is clearly a scam like

The reason these things persist is because Swiss people can't admit
they've been fooled.</p>
<p>Even

Debian</a> is becoming a front for certain interests. Maybe
it always has been.</p>

"Project Junkpile". We can see his attention is divided between
many things and he has become active on the risk of software patents.</p>
<p>If he didn't like software patents, how would he feel about Debian wasting

This discussion has happened and is over. I, too, am not happy with the result, but please let's move on and discuss how what we can make of what the Debian project decided instead of saying (again and again and again) that something else should have been decided.
(Brian, this is not saying that you start this discussion again and again and again - there are just too many people who restart old discussions.)

In most cultures, when you get married, you start making decisions as a
couple and work towards common goals like having children.</p>
<img width="100%" alt="Adrian, Diana von Bidder-Senn, wedding" src="https://danielpocock.com/assets/cmot/von-bidder-wedding.jpg"/>

<p>In
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/switzerland/">
Switzerland</a>, married couples have to pay a higher tax rate and

before a pregnancy.</p>
<p>In their case,
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/diana-von-bidder-senn/">
Diana von Bidder-Senn</a> is still in the PhD program at the time they get
married. The "honeymoon" phase of the marriage may have been delayed
in some sense.</p>
<p>Moreover, as
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/diana-von-bidder-senn/">
Diana's</a> PhD salary is much lower than
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/adrian-von-bidder-cmot/">
Adrian's</a> salary at
this point, the higher tax rate has a disproportionate impact on

<p>Remember all the
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/harassment-evidence-overcrowded-fitness-yoga-gym-incompetence-racism-accident-response-zurich-switzerland/">
problems with Swiss health insurance companies punishing the male spouse whenever
the wife or any other family member has an illness or accident</a>.
This type of fascism is mainly directed at foreigners but it takes a
toll on every family to some extent. When Adrian and Diana got married
in 2006, <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/adrian-von-bidder-cmot/">
Adrian von Bidder-Senn</a> suddenly became burdened with all the paperwork
for his wife's medical needs. At the very least, this may have cut into
the time he previously had in the evenings for unpaid work on Debian and
other open source software groups.</p>

<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20100814000102/https://blog.fortytwo.ch/archives/64-A-Sad-Day.html">
A Sad Day</a> sums up his concern about a recent referendum:
"More idiots than non-idiots in Switzerland". He appears to share
my concern about racism and lawyerists
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/swiss-harassment-judgment-poor-behavior-black-cats-debian-gossip/">
stalking our black cats in Switzerland</a>.</p>
<p>On 25 March 2010, Adrian published a blog post
<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20100818133452/https://blog.fortytwo.ch/archives/78-Community-Distributrion.html">
"Community Distribution?"</a> where he expresses concern about
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/mark-shuttleworth/">
Mark Shuttleworth</a>. He writes:</p>
<blockquote><em>
<p>As a complete outsider and with my obvious bias as a Debian Developer: how can anybody call Ubuntu a “community distribution” when it's obvious that Canonical and <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/mark-shuttleworth/">Mark Shuttleworth</a> can, and will, take decisions for reasons that are not made clear, and with only little or no community involvment?</p>
<p>This rethorical question refers, of course, to the current debate about <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20100924131344/https://lwn.net/Articles/377120/">purple vs. brown</a> and the best position of the window close button (Bug report and LWN coverage.)</p>
<p>Conclusion? Let's be fair and call it a community support commercial distribution. Perhaps we should found a non-profit to award a (trademarked) “True Community Effort” label to operating system distributions where no commercial body has the final say?</p>
</em></blockquote>
<p>That blog is interesting because it resonates with the concerns of
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/people/frans-pop-fjp/">
Frans Pop</a> who commits suicide at this particular point in the
Debian history.</p>
<p>3 June 2010, Adrian's blog announces

He tells us he can upload to Debian during work time. This is another
interesting comment that demonstrates the confusion about whether Debian
is a professional activity or a hobby.</p>
<p>June 2010, the Debian leader

Debian Developer Certificates</a>. Zack is a university professor
at LTCI, Télécom Paris, Polytechnic Institute of Paris. The certificates
are a little bit like university diplomas. However, unlike a real
diploma, the leader can arbitrarily denounce people and make their
certificates worthless at any time in the future.</p>
<p>Therefore, the certificates were just another gimmick to trick
people into working without pay.</p>
<p>In hindsight,

Diana's</a> PhD diploma appears to be more valuable
than the Debian Developer certificates.</p>

<p>It looks like Adrian and Diana had been married for five years at the time of
the death.</p>
<p>The death notices for Adrian von Bidder-Senn mention his wife, parents

realized something was wrong.</p>

Dear Stefano
Thank you for your wonderful mail! Yes Debian and people were very
important to Adrian. <b>I was glad that he was not only sitting alone in
front of his computer</b> but to know that there are people out there that
estimate him and are his friends even if most of you did not know each
other personally.
The way you describe him (empathy, calm, insight, ... - just the Adrian
I know) assures me on how good friends of Adrian are out there. And I
will always continue to think of this (in a good way!) when continuing
to use debian (which I became quite fond of because of Adrian).
It's a pity that he couldn't go to Banja Luca anymore which he did so
much look forward to. Anyway, I wish you all the best and hope you
continue your good work.
- Diana

The donators of the Debian project intend to spend money for the
development of the Debian project. If we spend Debian money for a
wreath (or any form of replacement donation) this is not related to the
development of Debian. It is rather *us* *people* who say goodby to
a friend. So the money should not come from project funds but rather
from single developers.
Saying this I would like to vote against spending Debian money but
rather doing a separate collection. I could live with some kind of "de
facto" collection like this: I will ask for Debian money for DebConf.
In case Debian project money is really spended for Adrian's funeral I'd
simply ask for 10Euro less than I would have done otherwise.
Please do not get me wrong: I'm in any case for showing that the Debian
community is sad about the dead of Adrian. But I'm not convinced that
this purpose is in the interest of our donators and it finally comes
quite cheap for us individuals to simply spend Debian money.
Kind regards
Andreas.

Adrian von Bidder-Senn</a> had a prominent status as the president of
his student association for three terms and he gained more prominence becoming
a Debian Developer. These things were probably highly regarded at that
moment in his life. Over time, their value diminished and he ended up
spending time doing IT support work, for example, dealing with the Dell
helpdesk on behalf of his employer. At the same time he would have
observed his wife, who had pursued a PhD, was progressing more quickly
with her career.</p>
<p>At the same time as watching his wife progress in her career,

<p>Having a PhD gives people more authority to speak.
Having a Debian Developer certificate takes away the power
to speak. People are expected to dumb-down to the level of
the social media addicts and girlfriends, blackmailed by the threat
that their Debian Developer certificate can be ripped up in the

<p>In the case of Frans Pop, he

<h3>Internship at
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/crypto-ag-switzerland/">
Crypto AG</a></h3>
<p>The company description reads:
<a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/crypto-ag-switzerland/">
Crypto AG</a>, a financially and legally independent Swiss company, has been a leader in information technology since 1952. The company specializes in the deployment of security solutions in all types of communication networks.</p>
<h3>The Message Scheduler</h3>
<p><a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/crypto-ag-switzerland/">
Crypto AG</a> develops encryption devices that can be administered from a remote management station. This requires distributing management messages to the devices via an IP network at a defined time and receiving corresponding acknowledgments from the devices. This functionality is to be implemented in a message scheduler, which is placed between the management station and the public network containing the end devices.</p>
<p>My task was to create a PC application that simulates the message scheduler as a partner of the management station for testing purposes and enables interaction. The main functions of this application were receiving, analyzing, displaying, and persistently storing messages, as well as sending and receiving receipts. In a second step, I extended the message scheduler application for communication with end devices.</p>
<p>On the technical side, development involved object-oriented modeling with UML using a modeling tool. Implementation was done in C++ with MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes). The development environment was Microsoft's Visual Studio .NET. Source code management using PVCS was also part of the process, as were ongoing tests and the integration of the individual components.</p>
<h3>Learning new things – Gathering information – Applying knowledge</h3>
<p>At the beginning of the internship, the first challenge was absorbing a huge amount of new information, structuring it, and not forgetting it immediately. During the first few weeks, I often found myself in situations where I had learned or heard about certain things, but still lacked that final piece of understanding.</p>

<p>Every question was answered patiently, and every problem was resolved promptly and easily. At this point, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported me in any way during this internship! As the weeks passed, I gradually got used to the new, initially unfamiliar environment. I became more familiar with the tools used daily, and the work transformed more and more from simply absorbing and learning to the creative implementation of my own ideas and solutions. As soon as the first versions of my software performed reasonably well, the collaboration within the team also became closer. I had the opportunity to test the "real" management station together with a physical encryption device. To my relief, this revealed not only outstanding issues and errors on my end.</p>
<h3>20 Weeks – Far Too Long?</h3>
<p><a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/eth-zurich/">
ETH Zurich</a> requires a minimum 10-week internship for its computer science program. With the initial intention of gaining my first practical experience abroad, I took a semester off in the summer of 2003 to have enough time for an exciting and challenging internship.</p>
<p>After an initially positive response from Canada, this didn't pan out. Other avenues through exchange organizations also proved unsuccessful. So I was forced to look for a suitable internship in <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/switzerland/">
Switzerland</a>. After several applications, <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/crypto-ag-switzerland/">
Crypto</a> invited me for an interview, where all I had to do was accept.</p>
<p>Looking back, I'm very glad I took the time. I had the opportunity to complete an independent project from start to finish, which ultimately interacted with other projects under development and became a valuable component.</p>
<p>In my opinion, the 10 weeks required by <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/eth-zurich/">
ETH Zurich</a> are far too short. It's difficult to find a suitable task that can be completed in such a short time. Whenever possible, you should allow yourself ample time for initial practical experience. It's extremely valuable for your future career and a fundamental component of your studies. This makes me even more convinced that it's essential to have worked in a company for a period of time during your engineering studies at <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/eth-zurich/">
ETH Zurich</a>.</p>
<h3>And how do projects actually work?</h3>
<p>Do projects really proceed as we're taught in relevant supplementary and application courses? On the one hand, yes; the experiences we're told about certainly largely reflect reality. On the other hand, however, none of the lectures mentioned can replace working on a 'real' project. It was exciting to observe the technical progress, attend the weekly team meetings, discuss current problems, and implement agreed-upon approaches.</p>
<h3>It's not always just about bits and bytes.</h3>
<p>But what fascinated me even more was the human aspect of such collaboration. It's about the ability to defer at the right time, but also to stand up for your point of view and find compromises. Communication skills play a crucial role – how aptly and precisely someone can express themselves, and whether their arguments resonate with colleagues. Ultimately, I believe I developed personally in this area – social skills – at least as much as in technical matters.</p>
<h3>I would go back to <a href="https://danielpocock.com/en/category/crypto-ag-switzerland/">
Crypto</a> in a heartbeat!</h3>
<p>In conclusion, there's not much more to say except that it was an inspiring and intense period full of valuable new impressions and experiences. In my opinion, my role was perfectly suited to an internship within this context. It was a real pleasure to work in such a dynamic team. I can only praise the competent supervision, and I couldn't have imagined a more pleasant relationship with my superiors. In short: It was fantastic!</p>
