The Council of UC Faculty Associations is a coordinating organization for the Faculty Associations (FAs) at the 10 campuses of the University of California. The FAs are voluntary membership associations of UC Senate faculty on these campuses. The FAs and CUCFA are the only bodies empowered to represent the faculty before the University or the Legislature on matters relating to their economic or employment interests. As independent organizations, the FAs and CUCFA can represent faculty concerns in coordination with the Academic Senate or in divergence from the Academic Senate. CUCFA may also take political positions without restriction by university guidelines. In recent years, CUCFA has advocated on issues from health insurance costs to academic freedom, and participated in actions like legislative lobbying, lawsuits and legal actions on behalf of faculty who have lost grant funding, member-driven campaigns against university cybersurveillance, protections for international students, and more.
