I was looking into the man who painted my name in San Diego when I was in fifth grade and came across your article. I’ve been sitting with my painting a lot lately because it has assumed the roll of a touchstone for my grieving heart these last couple of years. My grandfather, who hung the moon for me, took me to san Diego specifically to have my name painted by this man, who he must’ve befriended at some point before. He’s passed now two years ago and this painting has become one of my most treasures possessions. I’m so glad you shared yours! I’d love to have one that says writer, it was a clever word to use. Ive been a writer in a roadblock sincey grandpa left me, and reading this made me feel like the universe is doing what it can to help me to get out of my own way and start to begin again. Time to clear off my desk, I suppose. It’s always been a mess, and will likely always be a mess, but I’m beginning to feel like maybe I don’t have to be a mess anymore.

I am a military dependent & at one time I was married to a Army man from upper Michigan on Lake Superior. He used to make meat pies that was delicious. Unfortunately, I never perfected the dish because we separated after 4 years & actually forgot about the pies. Brings back memories. Now that I’m older & wiser, perhaps I’ll try again.

I once had a person (who claimed to be a Christian but was actually quite hateful) wonder why I even celebrate Christmas. I guess feeling the peace and joy of the season isn’t allowed for atheists! Another person wondered how atheists find joy in anything. I find joy everywhere. Another friend spoke up and said, “Beth is one of the happiest people I’ve ever known.”

I’ll never comprehend the contempt in which some people hold us. As you wrote, we’re all human beings. And to me, that is something to celebrate.
