CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent, non-profit Finnish organisation dedicated to conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, CMI’s work is rooted in his belief that all conflicts can be resolved. Our Core Mission:

-Act as a neutral and trusted facilitator in challenging discussions

The funds raised promote peace and enhance various capacities to prevent and resolve crises globally by supporting CMI’s projects in Finland and internationally. They contribute to the planning and implementation of peace processes, the development of mediation methods and tools, and communications about our work.
Gender equality and inclusivity are core principles of CMI. By donating, you support our work in strengthening the role of women in peace processes through context-specific and local action. We operate in several conflict-affected countries, including Palestine, Yemen, Sudan, and Afghanistan. Martti Ahtisaari believed that youth are the future of peacebuilding.
Young people play a key role in systematic change, and through proactive efforts, we enable their participation in conflict prevention. CMI has worked with youth in various conflict situations, from the Lake Chad region to South Sudan and the South Caucasus.
Conflicts consume vast resources. It’s time to invest in peace.
Did you know that global military spending reached 2.7 trillion USD in 2024 — an increase of more than 9 per cent from the previous year? Meanwhile, funding for conflict resolution amounts to only a fraction of total development assistance: just 1.5 billion USD in 2021–2022. This share has remained nearly unchanged, despite the growing need for preventive efforts. Wars cannot be resolved by military means alone: they require dialogue, education, and sustainable peace
Building trust is a prerequisite for any peace process. CMI’s strength lies in its ability to create safe spaces for dialogue and deliver practical solutions to prevent crises. Through the Peace Fund, we can act swiftly, operate independently, and respond to the demands of ever-changing conflict situations.
