About Me
I'm currently a Tech Lead Manager at ByteDance. Previously I worked as a Research Manager at Kuaishou Technology (Kwai Inc.) and a Senior Research Scientist at Snap Research, respectively. Prior to these positions, I was a Senior Research Engineer at Activision Central Tech working on facial performance capture for game production. From 2012 to 2015, I was a postdoc researcher at UBC and USC working with Prof. Alla Sheffer and Prof. Hao Li, respectively.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Institute for Advanced Study of Tsinghua University in 2012, under the supervision of Dr. Baining Guo and Dr. Li-Yi Wei. I received my B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from Fundamental Science Class of Tsinghua University in 2007.
I have been focusing on democratizing visual content creation since I started my PhD in 2007. My research interests lie in the joint field of computer graphics and computer vision, including but not limited to deep generative models, image & video editing, human digitization, motion capture, face tracking, 3D understanding & reconstruction, physics-based simulation, data-driven animation, procedural modeling, digital geometry processing, and texture synthesis. I have delivered numerous features across Snapchat, Kuaishou/KwaiCut, and TikTok, primarily AI-powered creative tools for image/video generation and manipulation, including the widely popular AI Mermaid effect, along with advanced techniques for 3D avatars. My work has also received credits from the Call of Duty franchise and one of the films in the Hobbit trilogy.
Our team is hiring full-time research scientists and interns in generative AI, with a focus on video generation and world models. Positions are primarily available in San Jose and Seattle. Please feel free to reach out to me via emails if interested.
