María Teresa González Linaje and Rebeca Fernández Rodríguez will attend the online conference “Archivos vivos”, organised by the Spanish department at Utrecht University on Friday 13 June.
María Teresa’s contribution is entitled “Spanish Archives and their Ancient Holdings on China: Historical Perspectives and Current Relevance.” Her presentation delves into Spain’s rich China-related historical collections, including European prints, manuscripts, and original Chinese texts from the 16th century onwards. It argues that much of this valuable corpus remains underexplored, emphasising the ongoing need for digitisation and analysis to enhance intercultural understanding. The presentation will also address challenges in disseminating knowledge due to material diversity.
Rebeca’s contribution, “From Manuscripts to Digital Catalogues. From Archives and Libraries to Online Search”, explores the invaluable linguistic records from Europe, America, and Asia since early European exploration. She will highlight the crucial role of digitisation and analysis for preserving and disseminating these materials, fostering intercultural understanding. She will briefly present the ARN Chedil project. Both presentations offer valuable insights into linguistic and cultural exchange history, underscoring the relevance of archival research and digital tools for global heritage.
