In search of a Theory of Everything
Over time, the intention is that my blog will be a home for news and upcoming information about my published work. But at the very start of your career, there generally isn’t all that much news to share; and blogging about the actual creative process isn’t really all that interesting (I’m sure nobody wants to hear about the day I wrote a gratuitously spiteful short story which was basically just a catalogue of hideous things happening to someone I really, really hated at work, or read about my rejection letters).
So for now, this is a home for various occasional pieces that don’t really belong anywhere else. To make it easier to navigate, I’ve categorised them into common themes. Since those common themes appear to be “Published Fiction“, “Book Reviews“, “Recipes“, “Bad Poetry“, “Stuff I Throw Away That I Really Shouldn’t“, “Hollywood Snark“, “Funny Stuff I Noticed In Shops” and “Zombies“, I’ll admit it’s hard to make much of a claim for a unifying theme.
However, they have all made either me or someone I know smile, which seems like an acceptable reason for sharing.

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHH!!! SHINY!
*gasp*
And there’s nobody here! You know that feeling you get when you walk into a big ass hall that’s empty and there’s no one there but you and you can’t help but start making loud noises to hear your echo? Yeah. It’s kind of like that. 😀
Having just found your blog through your thoroughly entertaining Guide to Grey, I had to click on the about this blog section and am so happy I did. Your category choices alone are inspired… I’m dashing off to put you in my Feeddler list. Looking forward to following you.
What Amanda said! Cheers and keep writing.
Loved, loved, loved your take on “Fifty Shades of Grey.” I read you’re going to continue your critique of the trilogy. If you want to collaborate on the adoption themed bits in SOG, I’d love to brainstorm with you.

Hi Cassandra
Cool blog you have got here, I was just wondering you accept advertising or if I could pay you to be on your blog roll. I look forward to your reply.
Cheers
Simon
Hi Simon,
Thank you – very glad you like it! I don’t accept paid advertising, but if you could send me a link to your blog, I’d be happy to feature it on the blog-roll for free if it fits?
Hi Cassandra,
I am part of a project related to hot trends, and the next trend is ‘Fifth shades’, I’ll will be glad it if you could advise us.
Can you please give me your email?
My email – jackie@shook.co
Hi Jackie,
No problem, will do.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Cassandra, I’d love to get your thoughts on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” phenomenon for a thesis I am writing. Is there another (less public) medium I can contact you?
Thank you for your cooperation
Hi Thesiswriter,
Of course, no problem – you can get my via my email on cassandrajane@parkit.karoo.co.uk.
I only read your review of Land of Painted Caves, and then the piece about your cats and snow, I think I lub you Cassandra! 🙂
Aww, thank you! I lub comments like this, you’re very kind 😀
I ordered ‘Clover’ and ‘In the High Valley’ recently, having no idea they existed before. I had read the Katy books over and over again growing up – so much so that I think they must be imprinted on my brain – even though I am in my in late middle-age, parts of the book and expressions still come to mind at odd times. I have to say I loved both of these sequels and it was so nice to ‘find out’ what did happen to the characters.
As far as someone else writing these books and not Susan Coolidge: at first I thought the differences in tone were just down to the lapse of time and the author growing older, but after reading your comments I think it may well have been written by someone else. There seems to be much more focus on the ‘tribal’ elements of the Carr family, where outsiders are not welcome unless they are devoted to them. I found this quite refreshing and more realistic in the way people do talk about each other in backbiting ways. There are other differences as well, but if I go on you will think I am obsessed!
Anyway, thanks for the comments and I did enjoy reading your blog.
Oops, I think I have left the above reply in the wrong place. My PC crashed when I was about to submit it – I have to say I haven’t read 50 shades – I’m sure Susan Coolidge would approve of me!
A waste of $2.99, and apparent only after a few minutes of reading your “Fifty Shades”. Had I known the ‘sour grapes’ critique of a fellow writer, (term used loosely as pertains to you) and intent to make money off said writer…well, I’d still have $2.99. Sad to know a purely escape, and very successful! read could
instigate such a coat-tail response from any serious writer, unless…$$$$$$

Hey there, I just nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. See here https://parrotsonthepowerline.wordpress.com/ to accept. Thanks for being a great read!
Oh, thank you – that’s so lovely of you! So pleased you enjoyed my blog and the nomination is very much appreciated. 🙂
I cannot thank you enough for your 50 Shades reviews – I hated these books but could never quite articulate why and discovering your reviews was a gift to myself for New Year – having read and re-read them , I really wish I was in a situation where I was face to face with E L James – I would totally rip her ( not physically you understand) . Ignore the fools who diss you like cinderella9 – she’s suffering from James/Meyer syndrome, no known cure because you cant implant innate intelligence, literary good taste and common sense – I have just downloaded your own books tonight and am looking forward to a Parkin-Fest tonight . I have never sought out someones blog before but I was intrigued – and you are also from Yorkshire which has to be a bonus !!!
