(FROM THE ARTICLE: A U.S. congressional watchdog said on Tuesday it has formally added three agencies to its investigation into whether government regulators are too soft on the banks they are meant to police. In March, Reuters exclusively reported that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) was preparing a probe of the U.S. Federal Reserve and other to-be-determined regulators, in response to a request by Democratic U.S. Representatives Maxine Waters and Al Green for it to look into "regulatory capture." The review, requested last October, is the first by an outside agency into the perception that financial regulators are "captured" by and too deferential toward the bankers they supervise, so that Wall Street benefits at the public's expense. Lawrance Evans, director of the GAO's financial markets and community investment division, said in an email on Tuesday that the probe would include the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The GAO will also look back at work by the Office of Thrift Supervision, which merged with the OCC in 2011, and regulates savings and loan institutions.)

-- Corvettes for Christ omission from parade unfair - CHAPLAIN JOHN KALASHIAN (DIERSEN: I had the honor of speaking with Mr. Kalashian at the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show in Indianapolis last Saturday morning.)https://journaltimes.com/print_specific/column/byline/corvettes-for-christ-omission-from-parade-unfair/article_59bd4f2f-1afb-5c9a-8c7c-7ca8e10d10af.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Recently, Lovdahl and Racine’s Fourth Fest board made a determination to ban Corvettes for Christ from entering and operating its gospel-decorated motor home and trailer in the July 4 parade. Their cited reasons for their unfortunate action were based on: Categorizing Corvettes for Christ as a business involved in advertising No decorations on the trailer Message of our ministry was represented by one man (me) Sadly, the board is wrong in their judgments while refusing to accept the relevant facts and truth surrounding their discriminating action. First of all, Corvettes for Christ is a federally-recognized religious nonprofit organization, not a business such as the American Professional Driving School, which Lovdahl improperly compared us to. Our religious ministry is commanded by God to go out unto the outer most parts of the earth with "The Good News" of Jesus Christ. Lovdahl, for your information, this is not called advertising. It is called God’s Great Commission. Corvettes for Christ is not about building a business, but rather about building the Church of Jesus Christ. As a nonprofit, we do accept tax-exempt donations, but our costs of operating and maintaining the ministry far exceed any financial support we may receive. Secondly, the gospel motor home and trailer is in fact decorated and has involved great investments of time and money, equaling and exceeding many float entries in the parade. The gospel motor home and trailer are decorated in the spirit of what our country was founded on — faith in God. We honor the men and women who sacrificed to protect and guarantee our freedom in the world, and we should honor God who provided divine direction to our Founding Fathers and ultimately sacrificed his Son Jesus Christ to free us from sin. This is the message of the beautiful large white cross decorated on the trailer — a message of hope and freedom. Thirdly, Lovdahl states that Corvettes for Christ should enter the parade in a "more efficient" way, as it is represented by one man (me). His comment indicates that he fails to understand that the message of the cross is central and vital on our gospel trailer. When he denies Corvettes for Christ the use of its gospel trailer, he denies us the opportunity of what he proposes, to efficiently proclaim the gospel. It is our gospel trailer that provides a decoration of a large white cross and the motivational scripture of Hebrews 12:1-2, to run our life race with Jesus Christ. When we are denied the use of our gospel-decorated trailer, we are then denied one of our ministries primary methods of conveying the Good News of the Cross. It’s not about me, as Lovdahl apparently believes, but rather it’s about the cross and its message of salvation and hope. The Fourth of July represents our freedom made possible by the unselfish sacrifices of many men and women. Let’s not forget that our country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and our faith in God, a God who unselfishly sacrificed his Son to free us from sin. God and Country, this is what makes our country great. And what makes for a great parade.)

-- How Companies Block Your Day in Court - Megan Leonhardt https://time.com/money/4362582/forced-arbitration/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Your checking account balance is wiped out because of a massive fraud. The bank failed to protect you, but you can’t sue. Why? You’ve signed a contract barring you from taking it to court. If that sounds surprising, you have company. Three out of four people surveyed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau last year did not know whether they had signed away their right to bring a lawsuit against a financial company. That’s because these restrictions—known as mandatory arbitration clauses—are usually hidden in contract fine print. Yet they’re pervasive. If you watch videos on Netflix or shop on Amazon, you’re governed by one of these clauses. Ditto, most likely, if you have a cell phone plan with a major provider; you may even see them in nursing-home and employment contracts. The clauses force you to use a private forum to settle disputes—giving up the judicial system for one that, opponents say, has an inherent bias against consumers. “The problem with arbitration is that the arbitrators often come down on the side of the company and have cozy relationships with industry,” says consumer class action attorney Carl Mayer.)

-- DuPage Republicans will be a $2,500 Gold Celebration Partner for the 2016 Wheaton Independence Day Fireworks and Parade. So far, 21 have pledged $2,350 toward the $2,500: $250 from Chris Nybo, $150 from Liam Brennan and Phil Suess, and $100 each from Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Fred Bucholz, Mike Connelly, Amy Grant, Tim Elliott, Jeanne Ives, Richard Jorgensen, Chris Kachiroubas, Mark Kirk, Brian Krajewski, Bob Lyon, Deanne Mazzochi, James Mendrick, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, Tim Whelan, and Jim Zay - Dave Diersenhttps://www.gopillinois.com
(THE ARTICLE: For the 11th consecutive year, DuPage Republicans will help sponsor Wheaton's Independence Day Parade. This year, they will be a $2,500 Gold Celebration Partner for the fireworks and parade. I am first asking Republican candidates on November 8 ballots and then other DuPage Republicans to cover the $2,500 cost at $100 or more per contributor. Checks should be made out to the Wheaton Park District and mailed to me at 915 Cove Court, Wheaton, Illinois 60189-6326. The $2,500 Gold Celebration Partnership includes signage, acknowledgement in print media, e-blasts, and press releases, announcement at the fireworks and parade, 8x8 booth at the fireworks, parade entry, and premium seating and parking at the fireworks. In addition, I will hand deliver flyers to the residences and businesses on the parade route that announces the fireworks and parade, that DuPage Republicans are a $2,500 Gold Celebration Partner, and the names and titles of the sponsors. So far, Republican parade entries include Mark Kirk (17), Connelly/Ives (18), Breen (19), DuPage County District 4 (20), and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (21). The DuPage County Republican contribution has been designated for the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums $1,000 entry (16), the Wheaton North High School Band $600 entry (23), and the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Band $600 entry (24). We’re talking about the extra money it will cost taxpayers to cover overtime pay at the Cook County Jail this holiday weekend if, following a recent a pattern, a high percentage of correctional officers call in sick. We have no doubt that some will be too sick to work. But forgive us for suspecting — it’s just common sense — that more than a few guards have been abusing sick time and the Family and Medical Leave Act that allows employees to take unpaid leave for medical reasons or to care for sick family members.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Republican Party chapters in Chicago and Cook County, Illinois have filed a federal lawsuit alleging Democrats violated a new bylaw and have infiltrated their party in an effort to claim Republican spots on the ballot for the general election in November. According to court documents filed on June 23 in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, Republican officials claim Sammy Tenuta and Frances Sapone, who won the primary in races for the GOP commissioner for Chicago’s 39th and 29th Ward, respectively, were disqualified from running because both voted in another party’s primary within the past eight years. Under a bylaw amended last year, a candidate is disqualified from running for public office if he or she voted for another party in the primary within the last eight years. “In advance of the March 2016 Republican Primary, in which votes for Ward Committeeman seats would occur, a large number of persons with Democratic Party primary voting records filed to run for Republican Ward Committeeman," court documents stated. "Republican officials viewed the effort as a calculated campaign to install Democratic Party operatives in leadership roles in the Republican Party in Chicago and Cook County as a whole.")
