Sustainability at Bard
Bard engages in sustainability efforts on multiple fronts.
The College offers an undergraduate concentration in environmental studies, masters programs in environmental policy, climate science and policy, and environmental education, and an MBA in sustainability. Bard students, faculty, and staff work locally and nationally toward a future where we can thrive. Initiatives coordinated by the Bard Office of Sustainability (BOS) are taking the Annandale campus closer to its goal of enhancing ecosystem services while achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.

Bard Farm
Located on the northern edge of Bard’s 1,200-acre Hudson Valley campus, the 1.25-acre farm provides sustainably grown produce to the campus community through our dining service provider and a seasonal farm stand. Our farm is a working demonstration of Bard’s commitment to sustainability and climate solutions. Guided by the National Organic Standards and moving toward a no-till management strategy, we strive to use practices that improve soil health, sequester more carbon, and build climate resilience.

Institutional Initiatives- Center for Civic Engagement involves students in green volunteer opportunities and internships.
- Bard Center for Environmental Sciences and Humanities is an interdisciplinary program that connects Bard faculty, staff, and students with grassroots efforts to protect the environment.
- Bard has pledged to achieve Climate Neutrality by 2035 by signing the Carbon Commitment (formerly ACUPCC). In 2009, President Bostein agreed to launch an ambitious and important process to achieve carbon neutrality.

Campus and Regional Initiatives- Bard College Farm is a student-run organic farm that sells produce to Bard Dining, hosts a weekly on campus farm stand in season, works to educate students about food systems, and connects Bard to the local community.
- BardEATS is a partnership among Bard students, dining service, faculty, and staff that aims to increase food purchasing transparency, reduce waste, promote food access, and support local farms.
- Sustainable Communities Program is a working group of Red Hook Together formed to recognize outstanding efforts to foster environmental awareness and good stewardship
C2C Fellows Network
The C2C Fellows Network offered through Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability involves students across the nation in conversations about climate solutions with elected officials.
Sustainability in Academics
Environmental stewardship is at the core of Bard’s focus on civic engagement and social responsibility.
The College offers rigorous, interdisciplinary training in environmental studies and ensures that all undergraduate students receive science education. Undergraduate dual-degree and graduate programs are also available through Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability and the Bard MBA in Sustainability.
